I always hated the term "brotheren", and "brother". The real skin crawler was when one of the "brotheren" would come up alongside me and put his wrinkley old hand on my shoulder and squeeze, while asking how I was doing. Ugh!!! I hated that. I always considered that a condescending gesture, or at least it felt that way to me.

For me it wasn't so much about any one specific question than a changed lifestlye and the changes in my then wife. My ex-wife went from 3 or 4 on the TBM meter to a full blown 10 in a matter of 2 to 3 years. She began coming to bed with her garments on rather than sleep nude together as we use too. Why does God require garments be worn 24/7? She began refusing to do extra curricular t

Here is a tour/link to the Joseph Smith properties in Nauvoo that I borrowed from youtube. (Not my video or narration). Just to give those RFMers an idea of the homes Joseph, Emma and their family lived in while the rank and file church members lived in one room log cabins or the sod and mud huts described in the above article. And seeing as Joseph, by his own account wasnt an architect or sk

Thanks for posting the article link. I love reading actual eyewitness accounts from history. This one published in an eastern newspaper of the day. A good read. Living here in the "Kingdom on the Mississippi", its interesting to read the description of the layout of the land between Warsaw and Nauvoo. It really hasnt changed all that much in 170 years, with the exceptions of th

Agreed!!! He lived a full life, surpasing the average age of death. He was relatively healthy up until the end. He was successful in business, and had more than his share of opportunities to experience life to the fullest, and if he didnt, that was his fault. His family should be celebrating his life rather than morning the loss.

I am just the opposite when it comes to a relationship with a significant other. I am, and have been told I am a true romantic. I loved the feeling of being close and sharing time with my wife; gardening, cooking, shopping, sporting events, going out to dinner, movies, cuddling on the couch, snuggling in bed, showering together, etc. There wasn't much we didn't do apart, we were a team, she wa

Wouldn't that also hold true for donating your time? I understand that during JS's time the church accepted men working 1 day in 10 on the construction of the Nauvoo temple as a form of tithing. So, 1 day in 10, I volunteer at a hospital, homeless shelter or food bank? That would amount to 3 days a month of my time working in the trenches to physically help others in need. That would

Its been awhile since I read it, and it was good. I thought Anne Eliza came across as a bit naive and somewhat of a gold-digger for her time. If I'm not mistaken, she wanted or demanded from BY a house of her own, which she received that was near 2nd east on South Temple, not but a few blocks from the harem located at the Lion House. Then she requested her home have a certain layout with a

You may be right about a very, very special prophet to come along, because my ultra-uber TBM MIL has received a personal revelation that her grandson, (my nephew), will be a very, very special GA/leader of the church that is destined to help preside over Christ's second coming, and it is her special mission to help raise and prepare this golden child for his prophetic duties later in life. Im not sure, but I thought that blacks receiving the priesthood in 1978 was classified as a revelation at the time. At least that's what I remember the discussion at the time was between my grandparents and parents.

There's that old tool of the devil to trip us up, "psychology"!!! Good thing I obey Jesus. I would hate to know about.... "sexuality". That sounds scary and confusing.

I have heard in a EQ meeting that once the church was "restored" there's not much more revelation that needs to be imparted. God works on his time, not mans. We are suppose to look to personal revelation for our needs and questions rather than everything coming from the prophet. So, with my own personal revelation, I feel inspired in leaving tscc. "Nuff said"

Yes,... What would have happened if Joseph Smith had not been killed at Carthage??? I understand that he had the original idea to take the church west before his death. It wasnt BY's idea. So if JS had survived Carthage, and eventually ended up leading the church to the Salt Lake Valley, he would have most likely out-lived BY and his leadership. How different would the church have been then

Is this more of a drinking and driving concern, or that your son has found his way out of the LDS thicket of trees and can now see the forest for what it is? Realizing ones own agency and freedom to choose for themselves is a very powerful and liberating gift. It's a good thing.

The last "special" stake conference I attended was 10 years ago. It was listed for age 18 and above adult members only, and started at 6pm on a Saturday, and was advertised for two weeks prior. Of course, this intrigued me to the point of ending my 40th birthday party and barbeque early so I, my wife, and our friends could attend. Everyone was speculating about some big groundbreaki

Very cool, a must watch video. Someone on the prior thread of, what you would like to do when you die, stated they wanted to fly thru space and visit other places and planets. Here is what that just may look like. https://www.google.com/search?redir_esc=&client=tablet-android-samsung&hl=en-US&oe=utf-8&safe=images&q=all+alone+in+the+night+iss&source=android-browser

The cut or style of garments has changed as well, as to when, where and under what circumstances you can remove them. i've heard that when they were first introduced during JS's time, they were only and secretly worn during special temple rites and rituals that were being taught in the upper room of Joseph's Red Brick Store in Nauvoo. The garments then covered much more of the body, from ank

Yes, when I was a teenager, I had a friend who lived with his grandmother. (Ultra-Uber TBM). She would not allow any television watching on Sunday, except for conference or some other church approved program. So my friend would end up at my house after church on Sunday under the guise he was visiting an inactive friend, (me), for the purpose of fellowshipping me back into regular attendance.

Notice how the phrase is worded. "Man is that he MIGHT have joy". There are no guarentees, or even a better than average chance. It reminds me of the phrase, "The PURSUIT of happiness" in the Declaration of Indepedance. It is always something you're chasing. Like you never fully get there. That is the goal of tscc. To keep the TBM's coming back. Dangle that carro

With great power, comes a greater responsibility. I've had enough of that in just half a century here on earth, why would I want more responsibility for eternity?

My TBM wife would tell you she attends church because; "Wanting to be a worthy member of God's church;" You're suppose too, You're instructed too, She made covenants too, She feels at peace and spiritually filled when she attends. Plus, the secondary factors of associating with friends. So I don't know whether that is hope or faith on her part.

I would also add that the youth are leaving the church because of their hardcore TBM parents and those parents hypocrisy. Not a week goes by that I dont see a posting or video on facebook about a son or daughter's mission call letter opening party from a classmate I went to school with in the Bountiful area back in the 80's. These poor mission bound kids look scared and less than excited to b
