My daughter and I have rats too. They learn their names after awhile and you can get them to come when you call. Our oldest male, Petey, does. He also likes to lick our fingers every time we open his cage. Toby likes to lay down and have his head petted. It makes me sad to see so many people hating on rats. Comparing wild rats to domestic ones is like comparing pet dogs to wild dogs. Any anim

I usually come out an INTJ. Every now and then I get INFJ or ISTP, but the first initial never changes. I'm pretty flexible and a lot of the time whether I think or feel, sense or understand, or percieve or judge depends on the situation. I don't have a preference, but I believe in being practical. The ability to think critically is probably a deciding factor in getting out of the moron chur

BDSM is not abuse. That said, there are many people who want to use BDSM to find vulnerable people to abuse. It wouldn't surprise me if some of them were members of the mormon church. Others have already talked about how awful 50 shades is, so I won't even go there. Just know that as a member of the kink community (yes, I practice BDSM) I can vouch for the fact that most of the community sees

There are rules that most poeple follow. Maybe not all of them, but since when have "all" of any group followed the rules? Most people in the BDSM lifestyle understand that safety and consent are important. There's a huge difference between consenting to kinky behavior and being forced into something you don't want to do. The OP assumed the latter and I'm glad dogzilla presented the oth

Mormons are the only ones worried about porn. The vast majority of people view it and it hasn't taken over their lives. That said, I don't believe in sanitizing my children's interactions with the internet and the rest of the world. If you raise them well they will be able to make good decisions all on their own. That doesn't mean they shoudln't be monitored, but they definitely shouldn't be unde

Actually, it is impressive. TSCC would be furious.

Of course not. They just want people to think they're not bigots because it reduces their popularity.

For some people it's probably necessary to replace the church with something because they've made it such a huge part of their lives. Others are just glad to be rid of it. When I first left the church I didn't feel a desire to replace it with anything. But it's been years now and I've moved on. I engage in all sorts of hobbies and I'm a member of various social groups focused on them. This th

To answer the question in the title: you can't. If your parents don't respect you now then it's doubtful there's anything you can do to change their minds. If you don't feel safe don't go. It isn't your fault they treat you poorly, it's theirs. If they want you to be there they need to treat you better. If they try to guilt you into coming anyway tell them that. No one is required to be ar

They're about as Christlike as most Christians, which is to say that they're really not good Christians at all.

The Satanic Temple is pretty awesome. They have a history of showing up any time Christians try to force their religion on others and putting a stop to it.

You don't need anything. They need to fix their bigotry. Seriously, the worst thing about TSCC is that they won't accept anyone who doesn't fit into their box. You're a human being and you deserve to be loved, not modified.

Do you mean this one? http://www.crosswalk.com/blogs/christian-trends/10-signs-of-an-abusive-church.html Because that's mormonism to a T. 1. Personality Centric - Don't even try to tell me that the church doesn't idolize Joseph's Myth and all the current church leaders. Obedience to the leadership is always pushed within the ranks, that gives them unquestioned sway over the congregation.

Thanks for the link. I really enjoyed reading it. I'm going to share it with my mormon family, though I doubt it will change anything I hope it will at least make them think a little.

It's the inside that counts, but only as long as you don't show too much skin! This is exactly the kind of hypocritical slut-shaming bullshit I'd expect from tscc. They try to sound supportive and empowering to women, but they're only like that so long as you live by their misogynistic standards. Women have worth. As virgins and incubators. If they want control over their own clothes, their o

My father didn't disown me, but he refuses to respect me. I won't talk to him until he does. There's a bit more to the story though. My father was abusive and I've been out of contact with him since long before I came out. He tried to reconcile with me a couple times, but he's too mormon to ever accept anyone who doesn't live up to his beliefs. I just happen to be one of those people.

Me too, man. There were days when I thought life was hopeless. I wouldn't have survived if I had stayed in the church.

How about all the people on this forum who thought about killing themselves because of the church's stance on gay people. Just because we survived doesn't mean we haven't suffered. Some people can take more abuse than others and still come out alive. That doesn't mean the ones who died killed themselves because they wanted to. It doesn't mean the church isn't culpable for their deaths.

Yes to both, along with a side of homophobia and transphobia. They're pretty good at hiding the former though. My parents always said that men and women were equal... but they believed that a woman's place is in the home. They never said they thought anyone was inferior because of the color of their skin, but they called Hispanics and Blacks lazy and entitled. They always had a negative view of r

Good question. I don't think it's a matter of how much blood has to be shed, but of how blind they are. Some people will believe mormonism no matter how much damage it does to anyone who lives outside it's beliefs. I feel sorry for them.

Most of them say "because Paul..." referring to his comments on it, but he also said a lot of other things we don't follow. Like how women have to be silent and should never be given authority. So they're cherry picking either was, NT or OT.

Transgender people don't all look like the gender they were born as. An awful lot of us look like the gender we identify as. You're never going to see the genitals of anyone using the restroom, so you don't h

The more cis women get harassed because of stupid anti-trans laws the more people will realize that those laws are hateful and discriminatory. If the law gives people the right to harass trans people then trans people will not be the only ones getting harassed. Anyone who looks like they might be trans will get harassed. That leaves just about everyone who doesn't conform to gender norms in trou
