Of course, Jesus DID drink wine...and enough wine to actually get a little drunk. (if you believe he even existed). He would have had at least four glasses of wine during the Passover meal.

My TBM sister and her family live in Murray, UT and have told me of their favorite drink to unwind with after a hard day's work... Mormon Margaritas! Apparently it is made up of: 1/2 Margarita mix 1/2 Sweetened Condensed milk Ice Enjoy! (or not) I can't make this stuff up! Any other mormon-approved cocktails you know of???

Years ago I attended "The Sing-Along Sound of Music" at the Castro theater in San Francisco. It was a transcendent experience. First of all, as we arrived the Wurlitzer organ was played by an amazing organist who strung all of the songs from that musical together in a medley. They handed out swag bags that included a paper-cut edelweiss and an invitation to the Captain's ball.

You made me laugh with the visual of costumed kids clinging onto scenery in the back of a pickup truck! I remember doing that!

All mormonism and no life does make it seem super dull. It seems that in a way gutting those programs cut out the soul of the cult. I suppose I should be more happy about that as mormonism does need to die...

I mean honestly, those things were a high point in my life growing up. Everybody worked so hard to make the scenery and practice their lines and then the rehearsals every week and sometimes twice a week. I just loved it. Probably one of the few things I miss about the cult. Of course they cut them out for some stupid reason. I can't imagine what keeps the current membership involved

32 years for me. Philippines Manila and Cebu East Mission. I recently looked up the number of cult missions in the Philippines and it seems like 2 dozen of them! I loved parts of my mission but i really hated being there. I felt like i was simply doing my time so I could return home with honor and marry my girlfriend, who later dear johned me. Oh well. She's dead now. I regret aspects

For me, going on a 2-year mission for the cult is pretty cringeworthy. Here I was at 19 thinking I had all the answers to the Filipinos I met. I baptized many of them. I think they joined the cult because they thought the cult would help them. Which it did, but only for a short time. Typical. Some of my converts are still in. I cringe whenever I see them on facebook going on and on about h

I am a fan of Bill Maher and I have even been to a couple of his live shows. I also think he is not that left-wing. Seriously. He makes fun of the "woke" crowd and points out how silly the far left can act sometimes. "Religioulus" is one of my favorite documentaries. It is worth the watch. I do agree that it is important for the left, and especially the far left,

When I was really trying to process what happened to me while I was in the cult (really the first 32 years of my life) I really needed to talk to other people about what it is like leaving mormonism. My nevmo wife found a group nearby that had recovery meetings and I'm so glad I was able to meet with them and gripe about mormonism for a while. It was VERY helpful. This board has been helpful t

The "holy ghost" is whatever you want it to be. To me it represents my inner voice that wants to join the group and to not disappoint others. This tendency I have was manipulated by the cult to draw me farther in. The cult is insidious.

How could Abstract Expressionism even be a thing among mormons? There's not even ONE good art museum in SLC!! A city of millions and the only excuse for an art museum is the U of U one? Perhaps the lack of good art museums reflects more on the lack of philanthropy among SLC's uber-rich. The cult wins and everyone else has to do without. Typical.

One doesn't have to go too far to find someone who is affected by a cult. Consider the massive influence of conformation bias provided by internet search engines and the retreat towards tribalism enabled by social media platforms. Now It is much easier to believe in falsehoods because one can find support from various sources of on-line misinformation and a group of like-minded individuals who w

I was angry with my dad for a decade or so and we didn't talk to each other and then he died. He could not accept that I was out of the cult and doing ok. When He died I became SO ANGRY because he was such a TBM and could not even talk to me. I'm still a little angry with him though he has been dead for years now. Looking back, I used to think my father was so smart and now I can see h

Seems like it would be rather helpful right about now... Would be nice to hear SOMETHING from god with Covid running around and the economy going to the ground... How about something like "Hey everybody, wear a mask and wash your hands! This is God talking so I'm watching you!!" Or this one: "protect your wealth by buying precious metals in case of an economic collapse&q

It is very hard to get someone to question their cult. I'm sure that in their eyes they are showing you lots of "love" by encouraging you to join the cult and thereby being saved and able to enjoy the eternities with your wife(s) at your side. This is a true dilemma because if you voice your strong opposition to the cult then they will drive a wedge between you and your wife.

Another great book for people dabbling into backyard astronomy is The Stars: A New Way to See Them Paperback – Illustrated by H. A. Ray He is the author of the "Curious George" series of children's books. This book helps explain the night sky simply but wonderfully. I can't recommend this book enough. Happy Holidays!

I'm wondering how much did Ezra Taft Benson's political leanings influenced Mitt? Was Mitt into the right-wing John Birch society stuff or was his experience more removed from it given that his father immigrated to the US from their compound in Mexico?

My Dad was similar. When I was watching the interview i gasped when I saw Dr Harris pull out the book titled "Conspiracy?" My dad had that book as well. My dad had tons of the Skousen books. I remember that as the years wore on my dad had sort of a club among older church members who all were fans of books like these. My family lived in San Diego North County and my parents lat

What is interesting to me about all of this is just how political talking about ETB can get. I know that on this board we are supposed to keep politics out BUT ETB was a VERY political figure! He infamously said at the BYU devotional that it was not possible to be a Democrat and a faithful member of the morg. So yes, there is a lot of political twist to these discussions and what happened

Human trafficking was not a term we had in the 70's. After reading the Nauvoo Expositor this term sounds like it applies to Jo Smith. He prayed upon the weak and helpless to fulfill his desires. He was a scumbag. If he were alive today he would be hunted down and put in prison.

Please watch the interview when you've got some time. I know it is long but WOW that interview explains a lot when it came to my childhood and early adult years. Perhaps my parents were more far right than most TBM's. They did visit the Bundy ranch after all.

I grew up as a TBM mormon in the 70's and 80's. My father was into conspiracy theories and right-wing propaganda. Now I understand more of the reasons why after watching this talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvwWO60WkWo I wasn't born a racist, I was raised as one. It took me until my mid 20's when I figured that out and many years after that to walk back all of the damage that my ra

I am still a huge fan of the 80's. It was a magical time for me. I hear you on the "Modern music sucks" front too. It seems we live in an era of perfect computer generated pop music and I'm sick of it. I met my wife 17 years ago when we both joined an 80's new-wave cover band. We had so much fun gigging around San Francisco and I would not trade those memories for anything. We

When my TBM dad died a few years ago I felt so many different emotions. Denial, hurt, lots of anger, and sadness. It took me a while to process the fact that he died. Your story is a tragic one because (I suspect) that if she were out of the cult she could have processed her feelings and desires on a more normal level. Being clouded with what the cult thinks you should do can make one fee

I've been a backyard astronomer for years. The best advice I can give is skip over the telescopes and get a set of binoculars. You want large aperture ones for viewing the night sky. This means that the lenses that face the sky are large in diameter. Celestron - SkyMaster Giant 15x70 I found this one on amazon for less than $100. I'm sure they are not perfect but they should gather pl
