I don't think we can take down the church or deconvert its members. That is not my goal. What we should be doing is getting the information out so that other people don't join the church without the other side of the story. We should try to call out the church when it is bullying non-members and we should stop it from getting any more power in this country. You and everyone else here kn

Also, I found it ironic in Heinlein's book that the first theocratic "prophet" is elected in 2012. Romney doesn't strike me as a real prophetic type, but he has sworn to do everything to advance the Kingdom of God on Earth. The fact that he can hide that pledge so well probably makes him far more dangerous. He can look sane and moderate while passing a hidden agenda to advance the ch

Read the "Cleansing of America" by Cleon Skousen. This is by one of Mormonism's most respected thinkers who talks about how our constitution came directly from the Law of Moses (Crazy. I know). He wants to reinstate the Law of Moses in America and uses LDS scriptures to support it. He says that the church would break everything into groups of 100, 50, and 10 like Brigham Young did a

They closed the last thread before I could reply, but I think we had some great discussion and we were really getting places! I had some great input and I would love some more. Forestpal had some great suggestions for tone on comments, questions, and a campaign to force the Morg to disclose its records. I remember that there was a campaign after the Prop 8 thing to do that. What happened to t

Many of those comments were heartening. A lot of people are seeing through the church's bs. However, I was surprised by how many Mormons were on the comment boards plugging their religion. I bet they are going to bear their testimony this Sunday about their preaching to the heathens on CNN today. We need to focus on the soundbites that resonate the most with people and that are hardest for Mo

BTW, did you guys know that Monson had like 200 widows in his ward that he visited every Christmas? I wish I had a penny for every time I have heard that story from him or another source.

We should start an "Occupy the Comment boards" movement to protest the silly Mormon PR astroturf campaign.

I am taken back by the diversity shown here. There exists a LEFTIST Mormon?! This reminds me of my favorite Mormon German dissident. His name is Helmut Hubener and is today celebrated as an LDS hero. He printed propaganda against Hitler and was beheaded by the SS after he was caught. The only thing that members forget to tell you is that the local church authorities EXCOMMUNI

2012 may be the most important year ever for the ex-Mormon community. Thanks to Romney's presidential candidacy, the church is going to be in the spotlight next year. The Morg leaders are convinced that this is their moment. They are now pouring millions of dollars into public relations campaigns in order to obscure the truth and change the public's view of the church. If they succeed in makin

Just remember, corporations (like the church) are people too!!! But seriously, I think this is the silliest of arguments. The church claims to have unique advantages. For instance: *The church claims that every man has the power of God. *They claim to have more truth than any other church. *They alone have the TRUE Holy Ghost. * Everyone else just has the "Light of Christ,&quo

Sorry. You are right. I couldn't remember the title and author, but I looked it up. It is "Nephi in the Promised Land" by George Potter. 30$ from Deseret Book.

This sounds a lot like the story of Thomas Ferguson and the NWAF. Interesting parallel. There is a great movie called "Memento" that talks about this kind of phenomenon. At the end of the movie, the main character discovers he is on a quixotic quest, but he decides that he can "lie to himself to be happy" and continues because it gives him the sense of righteous purpose t

In fact, going to Deseret Book is a rather amusing pastime. You find all kinds of ridiculous things there. I found another hilarious novel about a Nephite boy who had a vision that he was going to see Jesus be born, so he and his Nephite friends make a raft and set out across the ocean to see Jesus' birth. Despite the myriad absurdities, they are there with the wise men and shepherds. But sin
