From Sarony's OP: On March 19, 1970, the First Presidency sent a letter to presidents of stakes and missions, bishops of wards, and presidents of branches in answer to the question, What is a proper tithe? “For your guidance in this matter, please be advised that we have uniformly replied that the simplest statement we know of is that statement of the Lord himself that the members of the

I've been easing out of them for about a year. Sometimes I wear them, most times I don't. I don't make a big deal out of it to DW. My attitude is "Eh, its just underwear" When the present batch of garmies wears out I won't be replacing them. DW hasn't said a thing. I don't think my friends have noticed. So far its a non-issue.

I just got a report from the regional conference held in the San Jose area. Going forward, there will be no more tracting in the San Jose Mission. Any referrals will come through the members, prospective elders/ inactives and community service. Holland said that continued tracting would be a waste of missionary manpower. Wow!

The one I talked to served in a small temple in Central America. The temple was only open one or two days a week. He and his DW did the expected temple pres stuff, worked in the cafeteria, cleaned, did yard work and then played golf 3 or 4 days a week. He said it was a nice tropical vacation.

I live across the country from my non-member parents. Every time they would come for a visit, I would invite them to church and they would go. By chance every visit fell on a fast sunday. They thought it was weird, and I tried to tell them it wasn't like this every sunday. After four visits and four F&T meetings over a couple of years, they had enough. No way were they going to join thi

It is definitely dangerous and they shouldn't be in a country with that level of civil unrest. But I kinda see their point for staying. Nothing makes you feel more alive than a bullet whizzing past your ear. These folks are getting more adventure than they will ever have before or after their mission experience and for the rest of their lives. They perhaps see themselves as rougher, tougher

I went to one in So CA also. The take-away for almost everyone was his much younger trophy wife. I didn''t really listen to his talk, but the artifacts were interesting.

Before they died the spirits were probably used to taking business junkets to exotic locations on the company dime. "Hey, the Big Guy's paying, lets have this meeting on Earth" "Be sure to pad those expense accounts."

A garden veggie with a catchy name. Its fun to say, but has no deep meaning. I'm thinking about changing it, but can't seem to come up with anything better. Any suggestions?

Its easy to skim over the polygamy/virgins part when you read it. If you really want to convince someone, have them read it aloud with their own name and spouses name in place of Joseph and Emma. Then you see how self-serving Sec 132 was for JS.

After the saturday night session, people loaded up the pews with their stuff to save seats for the morning session. Someone came in, cleaned off the pews and put all the sweaters, bibles, etc. in a pile in the foyer. Lots of PO'ed people the next day.

She is way out of my league, but 30 years later we're still pals. She and hers and me and mine sit together in church. Every once in a while we'll walk in the chapel arm in arm just to get the gossip mill going.

The overall theme of our recent stake conference was “Change” changing ourselves for the better. Always a good idea no matter where it comes from. Visiting GA Don Hallstrom repeated this phrase many times over the course of the weekend of the conference:“First hear, then feel, then act” Sound familiar? http://bonneville.com/?sid=582&nid=32

We just had stake conference and Donald Hallstrom was the visiting GA. During a Q&A someone asked him what the church was going to do with respect to humanitarian aid. His response: "The church will be sending humanitarian aid to Japan. Compared to Haiti, Japan is a very wealthy, technologically advanced society. They have the ability to take care of themselves where the Haitians c
