Getting back to the original issue, price comparisons for prescription items and/or hospital charges are a fool's errand. I know. I was in the business for twenty years. First of all: the eight pound price was not the full price of the drug in the UK. That is the price negotiated by the vendor with the supplier, and in the UK that involves a lot of reimbursement by the crown. I guarantee that who

No, no, no. They are being 100% Christian. The problem (as Bart Ehrman has pointed out in his most recent book) is that they see the Bible as a coherent story, and the end of that story is Revelation. Everything else in the Bible is a prelude to that book, and to the church leaders that is the only book that matters. The whole basis of that book is rewards for the faithful in the form of unimagi

a PH holder raping children inside a church is an unfortunate mistake that you are required to forgive. Source for the first one: https://www.exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,2480902 (and several others recently posted). Source for the second: the list is so long it would take all day. Dear SCMC: that is the true face of Mormonism. Thank you.

Here's my perennial question: why does the (mostly mainstream) media allow the fundamentalists to get a way with their bullcrap? They have always deferred to whatever the churches do or say, but now it has reached red alert stage. Again: why?

I have said for years that the most important person in the church is Sister LaFaye Sorensen of Riverton, Utah. She- and people like her- are the ultimate arbiters of what can and can't be said in Sunday School, and that is where real Mormonism is evidenced. I jest, but only a little. They are the squeaky wheels who get the grease. They are the ones who head straight to the bishop's office aft

They are allowed to do the civil thing first. But almost nobody chooses to do so. It is still accepted wisdom that anything outside of Temple First is second best.

What was the name of the disco place in Provo that the BYU Board of Directors (aka the Q-15) essentially drove to bankruptcy out of fears of immorality?

So many crossovers with Mormonism. Way too many home schooled Mormons. Quiverfull = Dallin Oaks' latest. Rampant coverup of sexual abuse. Rejection of outside trends. Strict enforcement of gender roles. Obedience at all costs. And this is what passes for religion in 2023.

And in all cases they reduce it to things they can count. You can count temple visits. You cannot count closeness to God.

Nobody should go on missions. See the recent Mormons Stories podcast with John Larsen on the Mormon superiority complex. It explains it all.

The Eleusinian mysteries took two whole weeks for the entire process. It was essentially unchanged for about a thousand years, and people loved it. But then, it was not tied to any particular theology per se, nor to a particular religious organization. Maybe the old Greeks were on to something.
