The Cathedral is nine hundred years old. I shudder to think what the Mormons would do to that if they ever acquired it.

The LDS church enabled them. The LDS church made them richer than some countries. The LDS church would first need to excommunicate most of their top leaders.

The Milgram Experiment showed the world that it is very easy for people to do unconscionable things if they believe their leaders are authorized to give orders. They believe Jeffery Holland is authorized by God himself. Case in point: the Mountain Meadows Massacre.

And that's as far as the reporter took it. Once again, we see that the media are geldings when it comes to investigating churches.

To answer the original question: the people who name their children after GAs are clearly trying to signal to their peers that they are suitably righteous. Mormonism isn't about God. It's about status.

Another inspiration might have been William Henry Ireland, who produced a forged Shakespeare play called Vortigern. He too obtained old paper and Elizabethan language. He almost succeeded. His case is actually funny because there were three people who knew what he was doing all along and just wanted to watch the fun.

They also idolize the Book of Mormon in the same way. I am sure that only about 20% of practicing Mormons have read it all the way through, and that includes the missionaries whose job it is to convince everybody that the book is revealed truth. Sad but true.

They act like they are Santa Claus. They act like they- and they alone- have been granted by God the power to decide if you are good or bad, worthy or unworthy, and to tell you so to your face. That's the field of battle currently. The women believe their husbands have that power. The children believe they must submit to that power. Brad Wilcox and Dallin Oaks and Russell Nelson and everybody els

As I have pointed out, one big breakthrough for this article in the demolition of the contrived barrier between Mormonism and the "Christians". Finally. Us disaffected types have been saying for years that the distinctions are largely semantic, and that the larger world needs to wake up and see that the dangers of religion override any piddling distinctions that the churches like to thr

I too have similar issues. So something qualifies as a "cult"- depending, of course, on the features you choose to include in your own private definition of what constitutes a cult. But nowhere, usually, does the conversation ever drift in to the central question, which is: are those things bad? If so, why are they "bad"? Plenty of Mormons grow up to lead happy, well-adjusted

The Adam Clarke story broke about three years ago, and since then has been the subject of lots of discussion. You can start here: https://www.ldsdiscussions.com/jst-problems And search elsewhere. One more thing that the totally open and honest church has tried to hide for two hundred years.

Plenty of Mormons believe exactly that. The Christian Scientists' whole religion is based on that. The "Science" is "medical intervention", and they believe that God's miracles are where the real health care lies. As do all those essential oil Mormons and chiropractic Mormons and Consecrated Oil Mormons and Jodi Hildebrandt and Lori Vallow and Tara Westover's parents and o

It's always Satan, isn't it. It's never because we are the evil ones. It must be because of outside forces that we can't control and we are so helpless and poor pitiable mortals.

The church will only change when its members change. The main job description of the "leaders" is to tell the members that they are doing everything right. That is the whole message of General Conference. If a leader were to ever try to tell the members that they needed to be different, he would be out on his ear in a nanosecond. To repeat: the church will only change when your broth
