It's almost like people stay in the church because they want to sin...

Yes, but: K-M has shown that they are willing and able to destroy anybody they want regardless of the legality of their attacks. And most of our loved ones will be 100% in agreement. I honestly believe it will get very bad very soon. I hope it doesn't, but I fear the worst.

The time has passed for class action style lawsuits. For the church, that would be a trivial cost of doing business. The MP needs to be directly held responsible. By the father. On the field of honor. Look, people get sick and die. But it is so easy to hide behind an organization. People are getting sick of that dodge.

Just a thought: they have been moving toward a Southern Baptist/evangelical model in lieu of following the traditional "mainstream" churches such as the Episcopalians. In that sense they are getting ever more right-wing and strident. Te Episcopalians have no problem with women priests or accepting gays. The SBC certainly does. We know which way the Mormons went.

That would be okay if they were quarantined indefinitely. The problems are the (1) the rest of us have to bear the costs of their stupidity, and (2) they spread their diseases to the whole rest of humanity. The targets are the very young, who are too young for their own vaccines, and the immunocompromised among us. Anti-vax is not a silly pastime. It can be deadly.

The author falls into the familiar trap of assuming religiosity as the default position and then trying to explain its decline. In my case I did not "fall away". It's just that, with my mind set, I could never understand why so many people loved to feel that they were "so rebellious and proud" that they needed a savior. I never quite got the whole Sinful Nature thing. Just som

The watershed moment has arrived: https://www.salon.com/2023/09/08/another-christian-influencer-arrested-for-child-abuse-why-conservatives-keep-falling-for-these-cons/. All distinctions between Mormons and (other) Christians have been erased and now Jesus can come back, or something. The author clearly sees no distinctive aspects of Mormonism. I'm sure this is exactly what the PR department has b

And she is the true face of Mormonism. The system has chased out everybody else. They have squelched any feelings of compassion or thoughtfulness or concern for what is right. The only criterion any more is your willingness to make sure everybody pays their tithing. Anything else is open season. Face it: Mormonism just doesn't work.

The great disappointment for this crowd is that Mormonism has embraced this mindset along with every other religious group. And that is the main reason people are leaving these days. The church has nothing left to offer except for self-aggrandizement and self-congratulation. As bradley said above, "Jesus didn't return as expected so maybe they don't know what to do with themselves".

The official church has changed more in the last ten years that ever before in its history. Gone are the individual planets, gone are the Lamanites, gone is the Seed of Cain/fence sitter thing, and gone are the orders to publicly humiliate any young person who has hormones before their missions. And on and on. But I guarantee (as many here have found out the hard way) that any member who says the

So increase the amount paid back per attending member. It's that easy. Once people realize that the rules are arbitrary, it all starts to make sense.

Two words: Don't say woke. Two other words: Jacksonville, last Saturday. Two more words: Buffalo supermarket Then there's Dylan Roof. And George Zimmerman. And Derek Chauvin. And on and on. All those guys are held up as heroes by large swaths of America. No. America is just as racist as it has ever been. And it will continue to be racist until such time as the president of the LDS

The operative word here is "Catholic". Catholicism has never been big on the whole Armageddon thing. I was referring to the Mormon experience. We all "knew" that the Big Day would be 2,000 years after Jesus was born. Yes, there was a little leeway because we all knew about calendar discrepancies and so on, but especially due to Ezra Benson/Cleon Skousen we all "knew"

You never heard it because you were born too late. In the sixties nobody had to say it- everybody just "knew"it would happen on or about Dec. 31, 1999.

It certainly signaled a major change in Christianity. The Bible never says the exact date, so there is some wiggle room. But the big day is getting more and more implausible. A lot of people have given up. But a big contingent has responded by digging in and getting more and more militant. The big kicker, in their minds, happened when the USA elected a non-white person to the Presidency. Then tha

A better word, IMO, is "reify". They take their ideas of how the world ought to be and construct a humanoid that they can then promote as essential to the universe.

"Trip" implies an optional decision. "Mission" implies an absolute moral and societal obligation. They certainly don't want their stockpile, aka soon-to-graduate high schoolers thinking that they actually may have the option to decline the invitation.

In the early 60s the church basically went bankrupt. The leadership saw what was happening and took instant steps to staunch the bleeding and then to make damn sure it never happened again (this was at least the third time the church was in that situation). They basically fired ("emeritus-ized") the people responsible and called accountants to be the new church apostles. The new guys la
