I think Rusty ought to end the suspense at the next GC and finally tell us where Zarahemla was. That's what we pay him for, after all.

it's worse than lost. It is corrupt. And yes, it all starts at the top. That's why the worst crime in Mormonism is to challenge the top people. They don't even know what the word "doctrine" means. All they care about is constantly increasing their power.

I never actually understood what Mormons mean by that term. I too have been waiting-for the last 70 years. In most cases, it seems it means that it satisfies their spiritual needs. I think.

This was recently pointed out by an internet friend. We all know that Joseph Smith never actually saw Jesus or Moroni or had any gold plates. But that's not the central issue. Mormonism promises to be not just "true", but also morally good. It has failed miserably on that- and it has dug itself in so deep that it can't ever get out.

And you are falling into their trap. "Researching history" is called fact checking. And you are fact-checking on the people who are currently saying things. It is not historiography. It is investigative journalism of the current leadership cabal. My list is as long as your arm. Sunday School teachers who told me JS and BY and SWK and all the rest were so amazing that I had to believe

We didn't get offended. We didn't want to sin. We didn't stop reading our scriptures and paying our tithing and going to the temple. We left because over and over and over again the institution failed us. It broke its promises and it lied and it refused to accept any accountability. It made our families hate us. It stole our time and our money. Maybe they should address these issues first. Tha

I sympathize with the gentleman. It seems that he feels like his talents and expertise are being totally wasted and unappreciated, and I'm sure it starts with the MP who only cares about baptism numbers and the peons are there to make him look good. I would be angry also.

I figured out that I am not unspeakably "rebellious and proud"and therefore have no need of being saved by Jesus or anybody else. You all know the song. I remember, even when I was very young, being just baffled by that concept. I knew I wasn't deliberately rebellious- I was just a kid trying to make sense of what I eventually learned was nonsense. So I didn't need Jesus to "des

In the sixties everyone knew that the Blacks all had maps of all the Mormon homes in their area so they would know who to attack for their food storage. This was eminently faith promoting because every Mormon knew that Civil Rights was part of the run-up to moving back to Jackson County. I am telling you the 100% absolute truth.

You all know, of course, that there are exactly zero believing LDS members who will ever know about this.

No, we don't need to forgive. I know what it says in the Bible. I don't care.

Like the man says, never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by stupidity. I highly doubt, at this stage, that there is any real reason at all behind missions besides "we've always done it this way". The original purpose was to get more Mormons, but in 2023 I ascribe it more to Just One Of Those Things that Mormon kids are supposed to do just because. And it can't ever stop

No. Religion just insists that it alone has all the answers. Non-religious people get along just fine on their own. Then along comes religion and spoils everything. IMO.

I may have mentioned it before here. But anyway, with all the turmoil all over the world, I thought it might be helpful to divulge the exact timing of the event. Here goes: We make a fundamental mistake when we ascribe the Last Days myth to an external phenomenon. It is not. Like all myths, the outward forms are projections of our innermost psychic (in the old Greek sense) longings. And if you

Once again the press has followed society's rules about affording religion only praise and deference. If they ever mention religion in this context, it is always presented as a story of aberration on an otherwise faultless institution. Maybe someday.

The saddest part is that absolutely everything she said would be right at home in any Mormon ward. Take away the killing thing and she would be welcomed with open arms.

"Bated" is the correct term here. Bated means "on hold", as one does with one's breath when one is on edge awaiting some momentous announcement. IOW, holding your breath. Baited breath would be my girlfriend's minty freshness as she tries to get me to get physical. Thank you.

Mary was a virgin because Matthew wanted Jesus to be the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. Part of the problem is the facile presumption that the order of the books in the Bible is sacrosanct. That's why people think the Book of Revelation describes the God-approved culmination of the Jesus story when in fact at the time it was just another Apocalypse out of dozens of other Apocalypses t

Today's Mormon leaders have no concept of theology, or scriptural studies, or anything else even remotely related. There was certainly a time when they did- B. H. Roberts, Talmage and so on- but those days are long gone. So do not ask about any "official church doctrine" on anything. They are businessmen (emphasis on the "men" part) whose only goal is to grow the organization.

They are doing this as a delaying tactic. Pure and simple. This case will drag on for years, possibly even decades, and they will never have to pay out one red cent.

The LDS church, it seems, can't help but keep tripping over its shoelaces every other day at least. We have missionaries starving. We have bishops telling rape victims to get over it. We have area presidencies giving the members their marching orders, and those are getting more horrendous every month. We have temple building going crazy. We have tax fraud. We have bullies getting the top position
