It probably didn't get mentioned here before because almost no one here reads the DesNews. Good essay, though.

Or maybe it was taken by someone stranded at the gas station who had been praying for a solution to his problem, Then, praise Jesus, there was a truck with the keys in it. Prayers answered! Most likely it was a non-premeditated crime of opportunity. Perhaps two guys had also stopped for coffee on the way to their crappy minimum wage jobs. One said, "Dude, it's like the idiot is begging so

It used to be that teens and young adults walked away from religion but then came back when they had children. I wonder if that's still true, or maybe less true.

You could have a Southern California climate on the cheap in Baja. Lots of expats there.

For reasons I still don't understand, I lived in Charlotte NC for 17 years. Other than it being way cheaper than California, the South was totally the wrong place for me.

The choices of LV and PHX sound like you want decent sized or large cities without actual winters. In AZ I would choose Tucson over Phoenix. As for Nevada, eh, anywhere in the Las Vegas area is pretty much interchangeable until you get out to smaller cities like Pahrump. I'd prefer Las Cruces NM.

It will be across several state lines and at least one border by now, in pieces.

Since I retired four years ago I've been wandering the West in a converted van. Today I was in Hurricane doing my laundry. (Such a fun life.) A woman called attention to herself because of her bumping into things, getting in other people's way and fumbling with her stuff. Then she started loading her washer with white shirts, white shirts, garments, garments, garments, white shirts, garments.

Yeah, I think it would be more appropriate to step away and leave them alone. I mean, would any of us like it if someone came snooping around about a death in our family? Yes, we're curious about the cause of death, but it's really none of our business.

Even if God/Jesus/Holy Ghost didn't clue them in to exactly what Hofmann was up to, the supposed power of discernment should've had them sensing something wasn't quite right with the guy and/or his document. But nope. They fell for it hook, line and sinker.

The "Power of Discernment" is the same made up crap to control people as "God sees everything" and "Santa is making a list of good and bad children." Ooooo, don't lie to your priesthood leader, because he'll KNOW!!! It's also dangerous validation of whatever stupid thought comes into a church leader's mind.

Let's see, which requires more character? Enduring the sh!t of Mormonism, or enduring the sh!t they give you for not enduring the sh!t of Mormonism?

A high percentage of Corridor Mormons have gone on missions, yet they're STILL provincial. It's as if their takeaway from living in other countries wasn't, "Wow, t

The fans of being able to discriminate based on religious beliefs fail to imagine (of course) how this could backfire on them. "Oh, you're a Baptist? Well I'm a Jew, and we don't believe Jesus is the Messiah or the son of God, so I won't be renting you an apartment." "I'm sorry, but as a devout Hindu, I don't do business with anyone who follows any of the Abrahamic religions.

I believe I'm fine. I believe I'll make it through the day without appealing to magic. I believe in not being an @sshole. I believe in not messing things up and in making things better when I can. I believe there's a lot of unimportant things bogging us down and keeping us from the important things. I believe in living simply. I believe there are as many meanings of life as there are people. I be

What percentage of active Mormons actually "hear the music?" What percentage just trudge down the straight and narrow path? You can't inspire if you're not inspired. You can't teach what you don't know.

For some reason, in my family "poo" was okay but "poop" wasn't. Mom would say, "Oh poo," when something went wrong. But I got scolded for saying "Oh poop." The meanings and differences we sometimes ascribe to words fascinates me.

I think Mormonism approaches marriage backwards. To the church, marriage is the goal and you go about finding someone to marry. But I think the goal is to develop and experience close relationships, perhaps finding a person you want to be with the rest of your life. If you find such a person, then marriage is just one of your options.

My parents could've said it didn't matter to them whether I went on a mission. The Selective Service could've said I had a really high draft lottery number instead of 8. I wouldn't have spent two years selling the lies and would've walked away from the church two years sooner.

I am the only one in my household, so me. But I can't remember the last time I needed to sew a button. Maybe it's because my wardrobe is 90% t-shirts and jeans.
