I think it was around the Nineties that Mormons wanted to be Christian, prior, it was irrelevant because they were the one true church. What matters when you are that?

I don’t know the exact date, but I do remember growing up in Utah during the seventies snd eighties and NEVER hearing Mormons referred to as Christian or barely acknowledgeing that other faiths existed. Kids that were not Mormon were referred to as either Catholic or Christian, irregardles of whatever faith tradition they belong to orn ot because we couldn’t fathom antbody not belonging to a

No, they left the Pony Express alone. They brought the mail and allowed communication with outside world. In other words, the relationship benefitted the church.

Vaguely. I remember people chatting with him. I also remember a guy that stole a mission car and drove it home. Anyone remember that?

I refused. When I turned eighteen, my Bishop talked me into filling out the paperwork so we could send it in at the right time so I would get my call right about my nineteenth birthday. I didn’t sign the papers yet as It still was early and I still had to graduate. One day at school a Navy recruiter came in and showed a cool video about aircraft carriers. I forgot all about the mission. Two wee

I spent many years as a parole officer. I can tell you first hand that women are as culpable as men and can be equally devious.

You sound like a type "A" personality. Lol. I always fought routines and schedules. Accepted them when I had to but never missed them when they were gone.

I feel for you. That has to be tough. I am grateful that I had supportive family, that made a huge difference for me. One other thing that happened to me that may not have to you, is that my "not going" immediately drew a line in the sand for me. It became my first step away from the church. Not serving a mission immediately marks you as being disobedient and begins your path outside th

They aren't now, but that area has seen some heavy gentrification during the past twenty years, during the seventies and eighties it was a little on the neglected side. I had a coworker that was her neighbor. He said that she was very blunt and spoke unfiltered. She has always been a very crass person. She has always been a lightning rod and most of it by her own making.

I think he was a true believer. I remember reading somewhere in one of Michael Quinns volumes and in No Man Knows My History, that he was always concerned that he could not receive revelation like Joseph could. That being said I believe that he believed that he was the Lion of the Lord and had the right to rule Zion with an Iron Fist. I think that he bought Joseph's Bullshit hook, line and sink

I never went on a mission and frankly, never cared. I fortunately, had a very supportive family. My father went on a mission to Western Canada in the 60's and came away with the firm belief that missions could be fatal to your mental health. He never pressured or judged me for not going. I joined the Navy right out of high school and later the National Guard. I received far more benefit from tha

Maybe we should send the stupid fucker back? They probably fattened him up prior to his release. I doubt they wanted to look bad by sending him home the way NK sent home Otto. He probably sucked some guys dick to use a smuggled cell phone. Cell phones are smuggled into prisons quite often and sexual favors are common currency in prison. I don’t doubt the guys story, nor belittile hi

I love guys from Utah named Nephi or Helaman that drink hard and fight on saturday nights. Knew two in the Army like that. The only thing Mormon about them were their names.

You hit the nail on the head. As more and more “regular folk” are pushed to the margins, the more control the zealots have.

I was of the understanding that SSDI/SSI only cared if you could work or not, based on whatever you claimed made you disabled vs. what they say is allowed to be wrong with you.
