I really like the idea of maintaining versions - not something tscc has ever been good at.

I don't know your situation, and whatever you desire for your family situation, I hope it works out for you. Unfortunately, the high priests probably aren't telling your soon to be ex how lucky she is to have someone like you. Neither are they telling your kids what a great dad you are. While they probably have good intentions, the high priests aren't doing you or your family any favors and ar

That isn't fair. TSCC would have been in forefront on this issue had they known about it. And if members could wear obnoxious yellow shorts to draw attention. And if they knew there would be a lot of publicity that could be exploited for missionary work. And as long as it only took members' time and money but didn't cost tscc anything.

At work, we recently had a fundraiser to support community programs. To support the program, the company contributes 200% of what is contributed by employees. It's a very good initiative by the company that is vital to many community programs. I was recently in a meeting with the fundraiser organizers, and they spoke about the difficulty of getting some employees to contribute because they a

There are members who would still believe even if Thomas Monson himself came out and said Joseph Smith was a lying, deceitful scum bag. Seriously.

I sat through the same tripe today. The people with the strongest testimonies can see the miracles in everyday occurrences. Of course, they would take this as a compliment, but I certainly don't intend it as such.

In a nutshell, I tried to turn down the calling the second time because I didn't have a testimony. However, the member of the stake presidency convinced me to accept even after I said I didn't have a testimony, and I felt it was the right thing to do. I really felt what I thought was the spirit prompting me to accept. The second time was much better than the first. The bishop sincerely love

In High Priests quorum, today's lesson focused on the recent conference talks that dealt with people leaving the church. At the beginning of the lesson, the instructor asked why people would leave the church. After some thoughtful discussion, the following list was developed. 1. Lackadaisical 2. Lukewarm 3. Pride 4. No effort 5. Disengaged As the instructor was about to continue with

The first time I was called as a counselor in a bishopric, I had been struggling to get a testimony. When a member of the stake presidency issued the call, I felt quite strongly that the call was a result of my faithful diligence and that I would finally receive a testimony. After all, god wouldn't let a counselor serve in the bishopric without giving him a testimony. Well, it didn't turn o

There are often threads on this board about the moribund condition of tscc. Unfortunately, I don't often see it personally as the ward I attend is bursting at the seams and is still growing due to people moving in and a few convert baptisms. If we don't show up at church 10 minutes early, we don't get soft seats and have to sit on the metal chairs in the overflow. Although I don't live in morr

That's one of the things that led to my disenchantment with the church. Those evil anti's, at least the ones not pushing a religious agenda, were far more honest and transparent than the church.

The essays have a very narrow niche. They seem tailored to people who are smart enough to recognize problems with the church and who care enough about the truth to dig for information, but who are not smart enough to see through the transparent deception in the essays. Based on these criteria, I'd estimate the potential target population for the essays to be about 2 (give or take a couple)

After spending years defending the church from cult accusations,I finally got around to looking up the definition of a cult from a non church approved source. I was flabbergasted at all the characteristics of a cult which were exemplified by tscc. You aptly describe one of the key cult characteristics of tscc. Unfortunately, I'm still stuck going to church every Sunday. However, now that my e

Fidelity is less about faith than integrity. After all, plenty of people who believe in God aren't faithful to their spouses. I'm not sure why you think it's okay to be unfaithful to your spouse if you don't believe in God. Assuming that by "unfaithful"you mean that your wife did not approve of your dalliances, then that is scumbag behavior regardless of your belief system.

How are his critical thinking skills? You might throw out some nuggets such as the book of Abraham, and then ask "if js made up the book of Abraham, then what can you infer about the book of mormon."

With regards to worthiness, where in moroni's promise does it say you have to be worthy? No where. Moroni makes a very specific promise, put it to the test. You will always find a reason for not being worthy enough. I was living all of the main commandments to the best of my ability, so I really had to stretch. I actually thought maybe the reason I couldn't get a testimony was because I w

In academia, you have to cite your previous papers if you use material from them. If you don't, it's still considered plagiarism even though you were the author of the copied material. If caught, significant repercussions will follow. I'm not sure if this standard applies elsewhere, but it strikes me as unethical for monson to recycle talks without referring to his source material.

Packer could go any day now. To me, it sounded like a lot of the non apostles were trying to kiss up to monsin in hopes of a promotion. I don't think it's just people on rfm who are looking forward to the demise of packer.

I watched all 10 hours. I mostly watch to keep the peace at home. Also, I want to see what my kids are learning about their apostate dad. And yes, it was painful to waste a weekend. However, General Conference is more pleasant now than as a tbm. I used to feel frustrated after conference because I was doing everything the brethren recommended to get a testimony, but I got nothing. Feeling bore

Thanks for adding that part. I had to cut my post short due to kids trying to see what I was doing on the phone. However, you aptly described the other part of the talk that stick out to me. For the nonmembers to whom this talk was directed, there were two key points they learned: 1) Mormons have a morbid sense of humor, and 2) Mormons are going to force their religion on me even if I don't

Good catch, I didn't even notice that - probably because I was still dwelling on the appalling way in which people who question the church were characterized in some of the talks. How long has it been since Tommy had born his testimony of something specific to Mormonism?

Bednar's talk is directed at non members. He just talked about how his son was injured, and instead of helping him, bednar and his wife wanted to see what their children would do. One of their other sons helped the injured son by washing the injury with dish soap. The punchline: The injured son began to howl in pain. Pretty funny stuff, and you could hear the laughter in the conference center
