On my phone, the banner cuts through the pope's head! That's funny, even if just a glitch on my browser.

Thanks for sharing! A few years ago my spouse was in grad school and worked part time. I worked full time. Sometimes, I had very last minute schedule conflicts for my little ones' childcare. These TBM moms were always willing and available for help. They never made me feel guilty or burdensome for adding my kids to their brood for a few hours. I often wonder what solution my husband and I

Also, *who* called these men to leave for missions in the first place?! Good old Joe. How convenient! Reading all the TBM justifications makes me angry. I have to take it in small doses.

For what it's worth, the humor on rfm helped me learn to laugh through the betrayal/grief stage. Don't hold back a good story!

2004, so doesn't really fit the OP's 1847-1947 range in question.

My temple name was Emma. Maybe some of those Utahns received Emma for their new name, too.

Thou shalt not kill. It's ok, though, if God places a drunk man in your path and tells you to cut his head off. Nephi knew that God could bend the rules. ;) It's better that one should perish, etc.

Right. They will spout the "his name will be known for good and evil" line. Many hardcore TBMs are already living in a state of fear for the wickedness of the world. The end times are upon them. This perceived "attack" on Joseph's divinity will just add to the persecution complex. I guess I don't have enough faith in my family members to put the whole picture together and real

Forgive the Lego Movie reference, but President Newsroom also reminded me of President Business....wanting total obedience and control. Lol

In my small TN town, we'd have a branch activity for Pioneer day. It wasn't bad when I was a kid. I imagine it at least has a potluck for celebration these days. Any excuse for a potluck... And the primary kids sing pioneer songs...for example, Here comes the oxcart, oh how slow! It's pulled by an ox of course, you know. The wooden wheels creak as they roll along. Creak, creak, c

That's how all F&T meetings were in my childhood! There was awkward silence between the usual handful of aged members. Those meetings seemed to last forever.

Oh boy. I attended both schools. I can't say either team ever captured my interest. But the LDS following in middle TN is strong. They'll be ecstatic to attend the game. I can already see the upcoming FB posts...

Pioneer children sang as they walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked... Not creepy, but I hated this song and all the other pioneer day songs.

I agree. Eventually you do wonder how you ever fell for Mormonism. But I feel relieved!

Sadly, I was a TBM who would never have run across these essays in the first place. I can't see my family members reading them or being aware of them. My questioning only started because of my husband. His shelf had broken quietly. Gradually, he started making comments about how much he didn't care for Brigham Young, prophet or not. It was a slow process of DH detaching from church that final

The TBMs in my family stay too busy with church to read the essays. I doubt they know these essays exist.

An airheaded relative submitted my mom's info on family search as being married to my dad's great great grandfather. We've always just laughed about it.

I'm considering posting victoia secret links on the TBM's links to mormon underwear. It's only fair to show what I wear, right?

In TSCC you always have to be doing more/doing better to live the gospel daily. I used to feel so overwhelmed and disappointed in myself for not meeting the daily expectations. The occasional pep rallies would make me feel "refreshed" and determined to be better. After a few weeks, I'd realize I hadn't improved and would cry about my "failures." The gospel is the only w

Yep. Sister's kid was just baptized. She was telling a humorous part of the talks, but wouldn't just refer to the talks as the baptism talk or holy ghost talk. It was as though she was keeping the conversation as terminology free as possible.

Wow, Cheryl! I'm glad you're getting along so well with all that you've dealt with. I know my cavity is insignificant. I just appreciated the moment of realizing that all the other times I have "needed" blessings, things were going to have their outcomes - good or bad - regardless of my "faithfulness." I hope your transplants continue to do well!

I like how the blog/interview points out that the Proclamation on the Family wasn't actual revelation. I grew up understanding that it had been a prophetic piece of work. Chieko Okazaki died in 2011. I wonder what she would have thought about the Ordain Women movement.

In addition to leaving the mormon club, I also left the "No Cavity Club" recently. I have been dreading my dentist appointment to deal with the cavity. I jokingly told DH last night that if we were still TBMs, I'd have asked for a priesthood blessing for "comfort." I arrived early to the appointment today. Once more, I realized I previously would say a prayer before going

Wasn't there a patriarchal blessing generator online? I'm sure it would offer adequate spiritual guidance.
