These articles are encouraging the TBMs that all is well in zion, no matter what "new information, which isn't new but has been de-emphasized for decades" appears in essays and the media. And these articles make me want to beat my head on my table. Thankfully, I know it's not worth hurting myself! Maybe a barbaric yawp is a better solution.

My bishop told my fiance and I that he and his wife always prayed first. This advice was very awkwardly given during our "premarital counseling" & was his first attempt at it as new bishop. It's uncomfortable talking about sex when you have to relate to another couple's intimacy, when they're old enough to be your parents.

Thanks! Yes, DH and I drink coffee and tea now. My two youngest kids love tea. My oldest kid was 6 when we stopped attending TSCC. I don't think he can put his finger on it, but he's the one who won't even try tea. I can't help but wonder if the 6 years of WOW lessons stuck with him well enough to make him suspicious of tea.

Right. Thankfully, my parents live far away from us, and this issue doesn't come up. When we visit, our kids stay with us and get to eat lunch on time. Everyone else has to go to church and starve. When they return from church, they are all hungry and sleepy. They eat quickly and all disappear for nap time. I can't believe how much I wasted the day on Sundays growing up LDS!!

That's like Mississippi trying to make the Bible the State Book. Mississippi managed to produce writers like Faulkner, Welty, Grisham, etc. Let's not acknowledge any of their books. Let's give credit to a "foreign book" for representing the state.

On a different exmo forum, a young mom was dealing with parents who wanted to take her baby to church with them every week. The young mom was concerned over how to handle the issue and was looking for advice. I went to lds.org and pulled up the lesson manual for the 4 - 7 year olds. I skimmed through the lessons and copied excerpts. I thought I'd share these brainwashing examples here since I

I had two Star Valley roommates during college. From interacting with them, I had the impression that Star Valley was a mini Utah in the middle of nowhere Wyoming. One of these roommates is posting updates on the temple progress on FB. The other is too busy having 5 or 6, maybe more, kids (I lost count!). I imagine the members there are thrilled to have their "righteousness" recog

This was me. I was 18, not endowed, when my first sibling was married in a temple. I was left entirely alone for hours on temple grounds, as they had to do the whole washing and anointing and endowment session leading up to the sealing. Even my RM boyfriend at the time was inside, although he hadn't known the sibling that well. Come to think of it, why didn't he keep me company? That part was o

I grew up in the 90s. I always had the impression that members were proud of the fact that their local leaders were unpaid, untrained men. There were often comments in talks, lessons, and testimonies that indicated that other religions were "less than" or foolish for wasting their money on ministers. We attended a Methodist congregation for about a year before dropping church from ou

I went across the country to go to BYU. When I have to tell people in the Bible Belt that I went to Utah for school, I get to laugh at my life choices. I followed a boy out there. He dumped me. I decided to stay and make the best of it. I was in my early 20s. If that's the worst decision I made at that age, I can handle that. It also gives me a chance to say that I am not LDS anymore. I'm a lot

I am southern. My ancestors were southern. Many of them were racists. Thankfully, my parents tried to put an end to that by not teaching their kids to treat people differently based on skin color. Racism was probably more rampant in my small town than my sheltered world allowed me to experience. I was so disappointed when investigators came to my branch, only to be called racial slurs. The ra

What a timely conversation! My DH and I were talking about this last night. We were trying to figure out what to do with his grandmom. She's fairly healthy, but the signs are there that she can't remember to do the necessary things to continue to live alone. My in-laws have made plans to move quite a distance from their hometown. No one has told grandmom, yet. She really needs to be part of t

Ahhh. "Couples prayer" was one of the many factors that used to make me cry. I followed the true Nephite prosperity cycle. We'd crack down on scriptures and prayer when I felt like I wasn't "in tune with the spirit" enough. After being dedicated to it, we'd relax and let it slide out of practice. I used to have meltdowns every few months because I didn't feel like I was m

King Cake!! Yum! It's the first thing in the New Year that derails my attempt to diet. But the missionary is right, the bread has to be just right to enjoy it.

My sister has it. She can't urinate on demand (I figure most women can). If other people are in the restroom, she has a very difficult time. Sadly, her employer so happens to "randomly" choose his Mormon employee for drug screens quite often. She's been terribly stressed by these occurrences. Poor thing!

They should play up the "oil" theme. Maybe turn the conference into a spa day at the stake center with pedicures, massages, facials...

We don't have Elf on the Shelf at home. It's kind of creepy/too much work for us. My kindergartner's class has it, though. And, yes, he's always watching their behavior at school. My daughter is extremely well-behaved at school anyway. But Elf has made her work even harder. That should make me proud of her. However, the end result is that when she arrives home, she's emotionally drained.

Congrats! It was also my nevermo grandmom's birthday. I felt it a partial tribute to her to also resign on that date.

Our stake still held Gold and Green Balls in the 90's. 14 & up was the age range. But it wasn't as dressy (rather said, I didn't have a fancy dress) as what I had always heard it would be.

Growing up in the midsouth, I never saw more than 1 or 2 black families attend, none regularly. My branch apparently had some folks who were rather unwelcoming to these families. As a kid, I was frustrated that other church members were racist. It seemed so contrary to the idea of the one true church for the whole world!

I noticed his absence, too, like many of you. I always enjoyed his posts. From what I recall, he had roots in East TN. I had roots in similar areas and though unlikely, wondered if we had mutual acquaintances. He'll be missed! :(

We were taught this in the midsouth, too, 15-20 years ago. Swimming/visiting a beach on Sunday was one of those activities I did for the first time post-Mormonism. We've missed out all those years. With that said, I'm more paranoid about flesh-eating bacteria and jellies than Satan when I go to our beach.

My older single sibling was feeling hopeless about finding a husband. A married couple that were decent friends with her in the singles ward had told her that if all else failed, she could be the second wife in the next life. For years, this plan seemed to satisfy my sister. Gross! Thankfully, she found her own soulmate. Even when I was TBM I thought that was a bizarre offer. I cannot imagine

Wow! That Huffington Post article laid it all out. I remember reading the website about the wives of joseph smith a few years ago. At that time, my testimony was rapidly diminishing, and it was just one of many disturbing discoveries. Reading the list of wives just now after being out of the church for a couple of years, the scenarios are so blatantly "unholy." My stomach was turning
