My small branch in the south used to host a sno cone booth at our county fair. My mom worked the booth couple of afternoons each year. That's the only way I ever got to go to the fair as a kid. However, they stopped running the booth in the mid 90s. It was too bad, since it was one of the few community activities we did.

I find true empathy is something I am trying to acquire post-mormonism. As a TBM I viewed others' "trials" with pity that they didn't know about the "plan of happiness." Take that miserable plan out of the picture, and I feel the pain, loss of loved ones, and uncertainty about the future with much more understanding.

Probably 90% As an young married mom working FT evening shift, I missed out on almost every relief society event. The rare times that I wasn't working during enrichment, you couldn't have dragged me away from my family to be at church. I also hated visiting teaching. So in spite of going along with the program for the most part, there was a part of me that just couldn't do the R.S. crap.

Dr. Zhivago is one of the few movies that exposed my dad's emotions. I recall waiting with him in a store checkout line as a teenager. He used this moment to share the movie plot with me. His eyes were tearing up and voice was cracking. I later understood that he sees himself as Dr. Zhivago, stuck with a family who seem not to meet his intellectual, emotional needs. I have never seen him r

I have only noticed 1 post about Packer. When L. T. Perry passed, my TBM friends were all over FB about him. :)

You have to ask for a glass of water because everyone else at the junior high banquet was automatically given sweet tea. You make a point of telling the restaurant server that no one at your table drinks coffee, when she's just asking a simple question - anyone interested in coffee or dessert? - and then you order the richest triple chocolate frudge brownie on the menu. You attend church or

I should explain that I became acquainted with the songs from college roommates. EFY albums were acceptable "Sunday music."

I assume they still compile a set of heartsell songs for each year of EFY. Even as a TBM teen, I found these songs sappy beyond belief. I never went but was at a sports camp at BYU one summer. We passed the EFY kids several times. They were always singing as they walked. Not my thing! From what I understood, the kids were encouraged to listen to their EFY songs and other church songs continuo

That makes me smile. My mom ran up credit cards there buying new washer and dryer and our school clothes. It was years before dear dad found out. Oops!

I was never thrilled about youth conferences. At least the service projects were meaningful, though. We cleaned up a public park, helped clear trails at a nature center, painted a boys and girls club, etc. It sickening to think the youth couldn't be given meaningful service activities and actually participate in their communities!

I did microbiology at BYU in the early 2000s. Do you remember the professor who said that?

The YSA group did a team for a few years (and may still). This was in Alabama.

I understand what you mean. I grew up with tv shows closely monitored by my TBM parents. I am forever playing catch up on shows like Seinfield, which were looked down on in my family. My world was very small and my "standards" and inherent nerdiness kept me out of the social circles in my mission field high school. Now that I'm out, I still have trouble relating to people my age when

Adding commentary on a recording would be fun to see! I am throwing this idea out for anyone to run with. We desire all to receive it. ;)

DH and I would absolutely love to see some creative souls do the temple video(s) MST-3K style. Maybe part of it would be the silhouette of a baker's hat on one of the bots. Or the shadowy audience standing up to fumble around with their robes. Any takers?

Oh yeah. We Thank Thee O God for a Prophet. I used to absolutely love that one, when I thought my family was perfect and Celestial Kingdom bound. In my later years of church, I learned more about my family's little secrets and how in the church's eyes we were no longer CK material. At that point these lines stung quite a bit: 2. When dark clouds of trouble hang o'er us And threaten our

Dear to the Heart of the Shepherd I hated this one even as a faithful sheep myself. Hungry and helpless, and cold (in my head I always added - Oh, so cold!) In our Lovely Deseret is also up there. "Tea and coffee they despise" blah, blah, blah

Jealous! DH and I recently went to Ireland, starting and ending in Dublin. Though it was chilly and rainy, the experience was unforgettable. We loved our short time there. Enjoy!

Nearly every post on RFM would offend an active TBM. I was one foot in, one foot out when I finally came to RFM. I found that many posts helped me learn to laugh my TBM self. The humor is very therapeutic to me. Several posters have found unique ways of expressing themselves. They add flavor to RFM! Thanks!

I don't remember who spoke at mine, 11 years ago. What I do remember is the music before my ceremony. It was a family- mom, dad, & a few kids - playing theme music from The Little Mermaid. I can still hear the steel drums in my mind. I remember being shocked that we didn't get to have a more formal graduation, after years of hard work in the sciences. :( I also felt embarrassed that my pare

Utah Exmos: a nevermo friend sent me a message looking for ideas for an upcoming Utah trip. My short time there was confined to Provo. Any ideas from y'all? My friend's message: I am planning a last minute road trip to Utah. We are mainly doing the 5 National Parks in the south and some National Monuments, but we might spend a day or so around SLC. Do you have any thoughts on Antelope Stat
