Very nice. It's really good to have other voices out there pointed out the real issues.

There's no way to argue with a TBM. My TBM mother once told me that she was as disappointed with me for leaving the church as she is with my TM older brother for raping me, our younger brother and several other kids. I told her to retract that comment or never see me again. If she were ever to tell me that my children were damned, it would be the last conversation we would have.

We will never encourage women to forgo education and instead get married and start popping out babies as soon as possible. Then if their husbands die or desert the family, the mother is screwed. But we'd never suggest that. We would never tell our black members they aren't worthy of going to the temple, because that could cause a lifetime of heartache. So, we'd never suggest that. We'd neve

The Internet has forced them this far, and it will force them further. I had my doubts back in high school and then my mission, but I had absolutely no access to the type of information which is available now. There are no good answers for them. It will all have to come down to warm fuzzy feelings, and they can't answer why warm fuzzy feelings for 99.98% of the population means one thing w

They are, but it will slowly cause more people's shelves to collapse, and perhaps more importantly, keep the high tithe-paying people from joining.

JS had already "restored" polygamy. There was no need for further marriages. What's more, that excuse was used to coherce specific girls, e.g., "And angel will destroy me unless you marry me." That's why the so-called angelic visits were BS.

It's a MLM scheme. If enough people under you become gods, you advance to the next level and get 30% of their take. Of course, you have to give 15% to your upline until you become a Black Diamond Distributor, then it's only 7%. You remember about the rush of Second Anointings in the late 1800s? God was afraid that the end of the world was coming and he didn't have enough distributors under shi

I have no idea why you all are so negative about this movie! Look at that stats! It beat out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to come in 16 over the weekend. I'm really surprised TSCC hasn't bought commercial ad time to brag about that.

About 29,000 children die everyday, mostly from preventable diseases. But I'm glad that your god helped you find your keys.

I think authoritarianism is a real enemy. I grew up in an extremely abusive environment, where my father physically, mentally, emotionally and sexually abused his children. Before, during and after the time he was in the bishopric. This was back in the 60s and 70s, when people didn't get divorces and everyone averted their eyes. The Morg keeps claiming that the world is getting more and more

The U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Seventh, Ninth, and Tenth Circuits have affirmed the unconstitutionality of SSM bans. Since the Supreme Court has refused to look at it for now, all of the states within those circuits will have to accept the rulings. This is what's happened in Wyoming, where the judge obviously wasn't happy, but was forced to accept that the 10th Circuit CA holds su

Yes, I read that too. I think it's probably inflated, but who knows. I also suspect that even if the numbers were what are reported, it is the attendance and not the number of people who attend weekly.

I checked out some of my TBM relatives, and it looks like less then 5% of their friends had changed to "I'm a Mormon."

The Morg has always been about strict obedience, at least for the masses. Once it starts to admit it's batting average would get it cut from any baseball team, then how can they ask for obedience? The idea that they speak for the "Lord" can pretty much be discounted with any thought process at all. Combined that with anonymous boards, which allow people to say out loud (well, typ

Do not worry about what is normal and what is not. Two partners a year would get you a yawn anywhere in most liberal countries. If you were out in bars looking for sex on a weekly basis month in and month out, then yes, go get help, but even if you had two one-night stands per year, that is not going to psychologically damage you nor would it be an indication of a huge problem. More import

The real numbers are out, and MtM only did $2.5 million on the opening weekend. After getting a little over $1.23 million on Friday and another $1.2 on Saturday, it did a whopping $64,000 on Sunday. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=daily&id=meetthemormons.htm All the projections for weekend sales were done based on normal movie trends, and didn't take into consideration that t

Pretty much every "resistance" movement in history winds up fighting over petty details and I'm glad to see that ex-Mormons do exactly that. It's unfortunate, but it seems human nature.

Looking again at TSCC strategy, one of the key elements was they asked for members to request that it be shown in their area. The key is that they didn't ask the members to call the local movie theater, but that they sent the request to the movie website so TSCC and the distributor could book the theater. This let them gauge the interest of the members in that area. I'm not in that business, b

I buy the explanation that it was originally for the visitor's center and they decided to distribute it. I think once they calculated that it wouldn't cost them any more money to distribute it, then the reason didn't matter. It will have more of an impact internally (Wow, look there's a real movie about us, we must be the only true church) than provide any more baptisms.

The movie will "make money" no matter what because production costs were covered by tithing. The more interesting question for me is to see how many theaters will continue showing the movie and for how long.

Here's a quick test to see if you are a TBM or not. Does the story of God making Nephi killing Laban to prove his obedience make sense to you?

As a former sales and marketing manager, my evaluation of Meet the Mormons. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?yr=2014&wknd=41&p=.htm When evaluating sales numbers, never just take the gross sales. You need to look at many factors and try to determine what they mean. First, yes, it had $2.7 million in gross sales, for Friday and Saturday, but that's only a little bit of the

The key point to notice is that it was announced at the October GC in 2013 that the membership at just hit 15 million. The 15,082,028 in the OP are the numbers reported for the end of the year 2013. The means that they were reporting an increase of 82,000 members in three months. If you do the math, had the growth continued at the same rate as reported, there would be about 15,330,000 memb

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the overturning of the SSB for different reasons than the other circuit courts of appeal. It will be interesting to see if the entire court agrees to the stay or not.

My parents stayed together, but we would have been far, far better if they had gotten divorced. The sooner the better. There simply isn't one easy answer.
