That is just abuse, plain and simple. In addition to being abusive, sayings that members of the church don’t mourn is rejecting the Bible. “Jesus wept” is the shortest verse in the Bible. Paul said to “mourn with those who mourn.”

15? When I served my mission (76-78), there were only 16 temples in the entire world. Temples have become as “special” as a Wal Mart. I suppose with all that money, they feel compelled to do something that gives the illusion of growth.

I would rephrase that as: the cartoon prophet, even Russell M. Nelson.

I think you’re exactly right. They can’t come across as hopelessly out of date to the majority of people, and they can’t seem up to date with societal trends to the older, faithful tithe payers, so they use a bunch of worn out phrases to say essentially nothing.

I thought that I had learned to fudge numbers on my mission, but when I became a Ward clerk, I was forced to take number fudging to a new level.

Just announced by God’s own mouthpiece, even Russell M. Nelson: women can now be ordained to the Aaronic Priesthood. Great changes are coming. Happy April Fools Day.

“The level of non-response makes me wonder how many are inactive or ex?” Or dead. I suppose the dead are inactive, but still members until 110 years after their birth.

Many years ago, my brother told me of a rare instance of common sense that came from a Mormon chaplain in Vietnam. Apparently, there had been a couple of instances on the battlefield where they had run out of water, but there was beer available. The chaplain was asked if it was OK to drink beer in a situation like that. He advised the Mormon soldiers to not get drunk, but he said if beer was the

Many senior missions aren’t even proselytizing missions, they’re “service” missions. The $100 billion+ church is not only too cheap to pay for some positions, they want you to pay them to work for them. Do you want to work in property and building maintenance? It will only cost you $4205/month, and you have to provide your own vehicle. https://seniormissionary.churchofjesuschrist.or

I have no way of proving it, but I strongly suspect that the “hook, line, and sinker” crowd is definitely a minority. I think most “believers” have found ways to quiet their doubts and/or have become adept at mental gymnastics. Many stay for social and/or family reasons, but lack solid belief. It would be interesting to see polygraph results of people saying “I know” during F&T

They returned the next day. They came earlier in the evening, and there were three of them. My wife was out for dinner with a few of her friends. I politely refused to tell them a good time to come back. After simply ignoring TSCC for many years, my wife is now considering officially resigning her membership.

“It was just a pointless tangent. It is snowing here and I have to go grocery shopping but I don't want to.” It was not pointless-I enjoyed reading it. And I hope you got your groceries without too much trouble.

I was tempted to say “none of your business,” but in a way, I kinda hope they come back (at a more convenient time). I don’t mind having honest conversations with missionaries. I don’t have any delusions about de-converting them, but I do like to let them know someone who wasn’t offended, isn’t unduly bitter, and doesn’t want to “sin” who had good reasons to leave.

Great post-thanks for sharing. I officially resigned my membership just over two years ago, but I have been intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually “out” for more than a decade.

To the best of my recollection, we haven’t had any visitors from TSCC since the start of covid (no “ministering,” HT, VT, etc). During that time, I formally resigned my membership, though my wife is still officially a member (she hasn’t attended for years). Last night around 8:15-8:30, there was a knock on our door. I wasn’t expecting anyone, but (partially due to curiosity) I answe

Remember, the 16 million claim is quite an exaggeration. That number includes millions who haven’t attended for years. Some have moved on to other religious traditions, or rejected religion altogether. Some were baptized as youngsters, or blessed an infants, and have no idea that they are considered members. Many of the 16 million are dead-if TSCC loses track of you, you’re still counted as a

I did a Wisdom Panel test for my mutt. My dog is a rescue, so I don’t know what breeds are in his recipe, but one thing from the test that caught my eye was the recommended weight for my dog. It was something like 52 to 96 pounds. For one thing, that range is so big as to be completely meaningless. It’s like telling a person that their ideal weight is between 150 and 300 pounds. Another thing
