Is this real? Like really real? I can imagine there being a dumb rule for missionaries, but for the general membership? Maybe I'll don a nice pair of striped tights for Easter Sunday and see what happens?

Yeah, I don't get the priority either. After all, sex is the second worst thing in the world *after* murder, according to these guys, so shouldn't watching murder be worse than watching sex?

At least for myself, it's really easy to lose track of time when I'm online, whether the topic is ex-mormonism, or politics, or watching stupid videos on you-tube. For me, changing media is really helpful. If I get a book in print, I can still get the info I want and spend plenty of time mulling things over in my mind without losing track of time.

Dear Brethren and Sistren, 'Tis bittersweet that another vacation draws to a close, and another semester draws nigh upon (some of) us. As always, it's great to spend a bit of time here with the lot of you. Sadly there are only so many hours in a day, and while you guys are way cooler than any of my professors and boss, the profs get to decide what my academic record looks like, and my boss sig

I don't think it will collapse. It will go on to provide entertainment for generations to come.

If you want the church to be true for you and you're happy there, I wish you well. Good luck on whichever path you choose for life's journey.

You don't have to prove anything to the bishop. No amount of empirical evidence will save your recommend. If keeping a recommend is something you feel is needed to preserve your relationship, I can suggest two options, whatever you're most comfortable with. 1 - Lie through your teeth. It may not make you feel honest or authentic, but if you have to choose between being honest with a fundamenta

The Occupy Canada meetup is in Toronto on Saturday, if I remember correctly. The Orthodox Church has liturgy on Sunday. The Old Clods meetup is at my house. Not sure what other OC meetups there are, hope you find it :)

I just wonder - do they plan this, or does it just happen? Does someone get up in sacrament meeting and testify that being a mamber missionary is as easy as posting on facebook? Between endless mormon posts and unending Charlie Hebdo debates, I'm just taking a week or two off facebook.

Maybe someday I'll resign, but for now I just can't be bothered. Besides, if I resigned, I couldn't fantasize about all the fun ways to get exed.

Missionaries are the lord's holy salesmen. It is their job to tell you about any of the gospel's(TM) attractive qualities. Anything that is undesirable or makes the sell harder will be left out, avoided, or circumvented.

It is normal for a word here and there to skip your mind. I'm an expat, it's been years since I've lived in an English-speaking environment, and it genuinely drives me nuts when I can't remember an English word for a few moments.

Not many people in my community speak Zarahemlan, so I haven't practiced in years. Oddly enough, I can still remember a lot of it if I think hard enough, so I think I could regain some level of fluency fairly quickly, but at the moment I don't think I could carry on a conversation.

Every force has an equal and opposite reaction - I know, that's physics and not 100% applicable, but the harder you push, the harder she's likely to push back. You'll be much more likely to get through to her if you accept her decision, maintain a healthy relationship, and voice your concerns in a non-judgemental, non-coercive way.

"Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin. I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men." Mormons take this literally. A rape victim who doesn't fogive the assailant, according to

I have no problem with the bible being translated into Zulu (again) or any other language, for that matter. What gets me is this - Can't the church pay for its own damn translation? Why is the government making the donation?

As I understand it, this site is for anyone that is Mormon and on some stage of finding their way out, anyone that was Mormon, and anyone who is/was otherwise affected by Mormonism. This means that there needs to be a culture of tolerance if this site is really about helping people. A large portion of ex-mormons find their way out of the church by moving on to some other form of Christianity, or

Back in the day, I was a Mormon. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the foundation of my very existence. I got a great sensation of satisfaction from being spiritual, I read the Book of Mormon more times than I could count, and all the other scriptures as well, which I loved. I always carried them with me and usually had a spare Book of Mormon on me in case I could manage to get

Talk to other adults in your life who you can trust, particularly with your school counselor who can give you informed guidance. Nobody on this board is qualified to tell you what you should do since we're far removed from the situation, but there are meny good resources you can turn to for help. Particularly try to learn good communication and interpersonal skills that will serve you well throug

This is something you guys have to work out together. Obviously, the consensus on this board will be no blessing or baptism, but as much as the children are yours, they're also your wife's. One fundamental thing is how you plan on handling their religious/philosophical upbringing on a day-to-day basis, and not just hashing it out when it comes to baptisms, blessings, ordinations and so on. Honest

Personally, I don't like the idea of forgiveness. It implies that you are/were wrong to be emotionally involved and that you ought to get over it. Pushing the need for absolute forgiveness, in my humble opinion, is one of Christianity's big screw-ups. What I do favor is acceptance. It makes sense to accept that they're crazy and find ways to live with difficult people in a difficult situation.
