Congrats Gatorman! I'm four years away from retirement and can't wait. Sounds like you have some wonderful plans, especially the family trip. Go forth and prosper!

Obviously I live in Montana, but I've seen Jeff Bridges on the street a couple of times. He lives around Bozeman much of the year. Lebowski is my favorite movie. Hence the "dude".

For me, it has to be Cleon Skousen. He had a huge ego and was absolutely crazy. Much of the ultra conservative movement in LD$ Inc. started with his intellectual (or lack of) bullying. There are still many older Mormons who still worship neon Cleon.

I remember very well the wife and children jumping or being thrown off the building. When I lived in SLC, I could not drive down West Temple and not think about that horrible act.

I don't know about beautiful women, but being the home of Jack Daniels has to give you some state street credibility.

Vitamin D is big in Montana during the winter. One of the first things I tell new transplants is to consider take it throughout the winter. The days are really short and cold so everyone stays inside. I feel like it helps during the dreary days....and if that doesn't work I fortify it with Jack Daniels.

Turley also showed his true from when he joined Oaks for the Boise Rescue last June. He basically told the youth that I'm a historian, lawyer and smarter than you so the church is true and get back in line. The guy is a "hobby" historian, a hack and a lap dog for the GAs. The only good news is Turley is sure to be a PR disaster for LD$ Inc.

A good friend of mine works on the Utah Genome Project. This is a DNA gathering project based out of the University of Utah that discovered the gene that predisposes women to breast cancer. They picked Utah because of their propensity for large families to track breast cancer history. My friend told me they frequently come across a family with a child who's DNA doesn't match the parents. I

The leaked changes to the Bishop's manual on baptizing children in same sex relationships was a shit storm that happened via RFM and other boards. I believe the minions check in regularly to RFM. I also feel the SLC local media check in regularly to get the EXMO pulse on topics. Peggy Stack has even mentioned RFM in her SL Tribune Blog.

Don, you are a beautiful writer. Your stories are haunting because I know they are based on your life. Like a Sam Shepherd play. I hope it is therapeutic for you. Thank you for sharing. Unbelievable how parents justify treating their children yet claim to believe in Mormonism.

I live just down the street from the SDA church. SDAs and Mormons share the pre-church ritual of hauling ass in a mini van full of kids because they are late for church. Stay off of 15th Ave. in Bozeman on Saturday mornings. It's life threatening.

But they can't talk about it because it's too sacred.

Since it's NCAA basketball tourney time, I'll share a related story. My temple name is Caleb. I went through once to get married in 1982 and never went back (the era of slit throats and disembowelment). The old man with bad breath whispered it into my ear and told me if I ever told someone I risked death. Holy shit, what could I do sitting there naked except for a Mo surgical gown. At the t

An old high school friend is a bishop of a ward in SLC made up exclusively of sex offenders. There are all men who have been told by members in their home wards to stay away. He said they get about 20 to 30 attendees each Sunday. He said many are current priesthood holders and basically a member in good standing.

Where the church has temples has always been an economic indicator for at least sustainability. I'm hoping Quinn's upcoming book will look at these statistics. In Montana (population 1 million), there is only the Billings temple. Billings is in the far southeast part of the state. My town, Bozeman, is 2 hours away from Billings and 3 hours from Rexburg (next closest temple). It is closer

They were fantastic. I remember they had live bands. There was a local band named Roadwork that played at stake dances in Salt Lake City's Holladay area in the mid-70s. I had my first make out session at a stake dance! Good times.

Brother Nelson's dear sweetheart, Wendy, will continue to keep him alive until he's the prophet. She wants it as bad as he does but I'm afraid her huge ego will eventually cause her head to explode.

The Hoffman bombings brought to light that LD$ Inc. was purchasing letters and journals that claimed old Joe and his crazy followers who could talk in tongues, interpret talking in tongues, see angels and believe a white salamander existed. Fortunately, some of those journals became property of the RLDS members and became public knowledge. The Hoffman documents just scratch the surface. The ch

I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the pain of losing a child. This Mormon attitude to put a big smile when someone close dies because they "have been called to a higher mission" is completely unhealthy. Put your anger and sadness on a shelf and shoulder to the wheel. I had a TBM friend lose their parents in a car accident years ago and basically shut out any emotion after

Since being a mission president is often the resume builder for future church leadership, let the race to be a General Authority begin! Each will be assigned a GA to kiss up to.

I remember going to primary on Wednesdays right after school in the late 60's. MIA was the same evening for youth above 12 years-old and usually involved scouting for the boys. In those days, you had to stay in primary until your 12th birthday. My birthday was late in the year and for two months my parents made me go to primary with the younger kids because the rest had moved on to MIA. I was

This is truly an offensive post and goes against everything this site is about. We all have our own journey out of LD$ Inc. Some, like me, resigned years ago. Others stay involved for family, business or whatever and feel safe talking about their challenges and progression on this site. Whether you are struggling with LD$ Inc.or have left. You are welcome here and posts calling people ou

One of my favorite Montana local bars is the Law Dog Saloon in Elliston (population 200). Each year, they host a "Bigfoot hunt." They don't believe in Bigfoot. It's an excuse for the locals to have a huge party, chili cook-off, get really drunk and run around the forest at night. They do draw a couple of crazy conspiracy theorists who actually believe in Bigfoot. Designated drivers
