Thanks! I’ve done a little more investigation. Here are churches claims. Aaronic Priesthood Restored: May 15, 1829 Melchizedek Priesthood Restored: May 1829 (end of month). In Grant Palmer’s book. No written documentation in letters and journals etc. until mid-1830’s that claim angelic appearances in resroration. JS and OC did claim priesthood was restored in 1830’s around when churc

Question: Is there any contemporaneous record of the restoration of the priesthood? Journal entry or otherwise? Do the journals of those that were present with JS for the event exist and/or are they available? My recollection is no on the first. Not sure on the last. It has been awhile since I read up on this.

It takes some time to 'release the bonds' and that will make you feel less defensive. That will make it easier to be calm. Maybe also pick a couple of items that become a standard retorts. Mine were my personal ethics were in conflict (e.g., I won't lie). My mental health is better (give concrete example of something observable that has changed for you). I can't accept that a man like JS could be

Sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Seriously. Besides that I’d have to say “Rocky Horror Picture Show”. Oh yeah, still ‘sex, drugs, and rock and roll’. O.K., the ‘drugs’ were just pot and alcohol. Speed, lueds, and acid were never my thing. Yeah, child of the 60’s and 70’s.

One of the many kind things my believing DW did for me was buy me undies as I was slowly going nuts having bastardized masonic symbols next to my skin. But I digress. I'm curious how long it might have taken some of you to voluntarily put on a white t-shirt that was not absolutely required due to the type of shirt. I've been out around 3 years and I still find it hard to put on a white t-shirt

Gosh, in the old days they used to say you can survive as long as you "never get caught with a 'dead' girl or a 'live' or a live boy." Hopefully after all this mess we'll have moved that ball forward a bit.

Bible ward? Not sure what that means. Unfortunately I do know what ward boundaries I live in. Basically good folk. I am in the Bessemer Stake that has the West side of Birmingham. Perhaps I just 'doxed' myself.

Love the dog name. We just got and I toyed with naming him ‘Satan’ just so I could go around the neighborhood saying “here Satan, come Satan, oh such a good boy Satan. But alas, DW and the kids would not go for it. Which Stake are you in? I am in the one that includes the Tuscaloosa area.

Anxiety guy here with a bit of depression tossed in from time to time. Wife also. Kids likewise. We’re a tad OCD as well. Actually relatively functional for being in academia. Anyhow, adult thing to do is get help. Take medication if suggested to at least get in a place where therapy can help. You do this for the people you love and who love you. Along the way you’ll begin feeling better. In

Ah, hello from another here in AL. And no, you can’t make the shit that goes on here. I mean, you have to be impeached twice and diddle girls a few months shy of 15 to run for senate here. Where else have I heard of such scurrilous behavior? If only Nick Sabain would endorse Doug Jones. That might do it. I mean it is God, guns, and football here - just not in that order. Alas I rant rhe words o

Personally, I am deeply troubled by how cavalier TBM's seem to be with the notion of 'executing' someone spiritually, which is supposedly a more severe penalty than putting them to death. But I guess a dead person is a potential tithe payer lost for all time. Just putting this out there. Cult.

The thing is that if you're not in Utah the only people who care about Mormons are Mormons and exmormans. And because of this us exmormons can sound a bit crazy to regular folk when we try to explain what we've been through. And if they know any Mormons they see the squeaky clean appearance and it is hard for them to grasp the this other Mormon (male adult one) thinks it's OK to interview a minor

I lost my oldest 3 years ago to opioid overdose. This is way close to close home. He had everything going for him. College grad with honors. Great prospects. And then suddenly gone. No family is immune. This needs way more attention than it is getting it at least better than three years ago.

My reply is: "no. The people by-and-large of good intent. They are just comprised by the roles and policies of the church. And for those unsuited to leadership it brings out the worst of them." The above is consistent what organizational theory and research would predict (btw, I'm an organization and strategy professor). Once I left and looked at the whole matter of TSCC through my

That sucks for your DW as she probably wants to soldier on. Curious, was your DW 'demoted' from RS president when you became disaffected? My DW was RS president, then Primary President when I was in Bishopic and then when I left she was promptly released and has not had a leadership calling since. And she did all the leadership stuff like your DW and is still taken care of one of the elderly wido

Ah, the state liquor store. You reminded me how when at BYU in late 70's early 80's I used to by booze at the state liquor store with my BYU ID - it had my picture on it - and my out-of-state DL - which did not back then.

I am simply horrified by this thread. Finding any 'benefit' to a point of view stemming from the loss of a child is just wrong on so many levels.

Mormonism: Destroyer of lives. At best a slog through a self-imposed dark and dreary world of shame and guilt. I'm out DW is in. Half kids in half out with me for two years. DW is unbelievably accepting of where I and our kids that are out are at. Being on this forum helped me understand that I should not take anything for-granted and much insight and support was gleaned. Honestly I am at tim

The wealth of shame and guilt it inflicted on two of my kids contributed to circumstances that ended in my oldest dying of a drug overdose and 'harmed' the other but thankfully she got out with me as teen and is now doing quite well. Everything else it did to me and mine pales.

His boys are good guys. That said I find what he says and the vibe he gives off to be downright scary. My guess is that once he really got in charge of something full time (BYUI) that it brought out the worst in him.
