Some time ago I was an adult leader on a high adventure. A bishopric change was in the works. Not one of us adults wanted it but we were pretty sure one of the guys was at the top of the short list. Someone said "you know they look for the kindest, most spiritual, and compassionate person on the ward ... and then they call her husband" and then all looked at him. He just put his head in

Oh, and it has always been a youth activity as a substitute for YM/YW night. A week before they also line up all the youth, I mean everyone who is there, for assembly line style limited use TR recommend interviews. A vertbile 'forced march'.

What I have seen is someone in the ward sometimes donates their own ancestors names, goes along with the kids, and has the group do them. Maybe once every couple three years. Never have seen youth bring their own work they did ever.

I think we all need a 'tribe', an association with a community of others who are people of 'good will'. We are fundamentally social beings. Likewise the ritualistic aspects, in part, also facilitate this. And perhaps many who leave and identify as Christian are deep down more 'followers' of Christs teachings than anything else. I live in the southeast and Christian congregations are pretty much w

You typically Become a High Priest when you are given a calling that requires that 'priesthood'. These callings boil down to carrying out church policies and overseeing that the various auxiliaries are towing the line. As part of the HP specific calling you often become privy to all kinds of personal information and other things being kept on the 'down low'.

That is pretty amazing. You would think there would be better 'vetting'. This case is outside Mordor.

I don't think so. But his wife's illness was the cover story when he was released early if that helps.

Surprised my thread got picked up again after two years. Shortly afterwards I 'quit' the bishopric I served on and completely 'left the building' - I well out of the loop for any updates on where the guy is at now. When he was called to be a MP any illusions I may have had about power of discernment went out the window. He was known to be a real piece of work before he got the MP call. But he was

It would be doxing to name names and that is against the site rules. I am comfortable saying the guy was not from cedar city.

I don't know how many people he may have excommunicated while SP. He was a real 'law and order' asshole so I imagine at least whatever might be typical plus some.

While not even as close to being saturated like Morridor there is another kind of crazy among SE TBM's mingling southern baptist with the harshest elements of Mormon dogma.

On my mom's side I have several relatives whose families have been ravaged by fragile x. One of the insidious things is that it's major manifestations seem to skip a generation. 4-5 of each families kids are significantly disabled and others have lesser issues. Plus other relatives have various physical and mental health problems at way higher frequency. And the geneolgy is typical TBM with 'blue

COLDDOGGER, I remember back when you showed up here some time ago. Clearly you are still in the 'anger stage' of transitioning out. Acknowledge this for what it is. Back when then when you showed up I, and several others here, gave you some pointed advice. So some more from my perspective as a parent of kids roughly your age, some older and some younger. First, I don't think you've burned do

I am an academic. My CV is regularly included in all kinds of things. Likewise where you went to school often comes up in casual conversations at conferences and my students who want to chat often ask as well. My bio is on my institutions website etc etc. While I am quite proud of my Masters and PHD universities, not so much on my BYU. I wish I could just leave it off everything even though I did

Finally, a first hand account. Perhaps there is a way to reach out to our Mormon brothers and sisters?

The article says they were detained briefly and released. It says nothing about their having been proselytizing illegally. Now that would be more interesting. We already know TSCC plays it fast and loose with visas all over the place.

Hell, some Utah web services block types of VPN's. I was staying at a relatives house when visiting Utah and my VPN was blocked by their web services. Apparently their services blocked VPN's with anonymizers. I did not know mine had this - I got it just because it had best ratings at the time for Apple devices and keep it on when traveling. My work VPN worked just fine. I expect it was a 'recomme

Save your niece. Talk to her. Love her. Give her a safe place to be her. Talk to your sister very directly. Tell her that she needs to make her home a refuge for her daughter. This is the time for her to learn and show the meaning of the words "unconditional love." This is not necessarily going to make her feel better to give it. But it will immeasurably help, her daughter. I have

Here is what I did. I prayed and read my scriptures daily as I sought the answer to my question "what is the doctrine?" But rather than praying for "is it true" I prayed to help me find Truth. I also prayed to be protected from self confirming information, to look at things from both sides of the argument, and to be open to whatever I might find. I did this for six months. Pra

When you stop and think, it is all tithes and offerings. If a widows mite is invested and becomes two mites, it is still money that is really still tithes and offerings. But, as the church has learned "you can buy anything in this world with money" - even if it takes millions of 'widows' mites.

You give me hope. Half my kids are out with me. Other half and DW in. DW is most the most honest, caring, intelligent, and well read person I know. We are solid and our relationship continues to grow and deepen after over 30 years of marriage - and yes we still have 'the hots' for each other. She actually, without my saying a word about garments, bought me my first set of underwear telling me tha

Like so much in TSCC it 'depends' on culture where you are and how fanatical or laid back local leadership. Coke and Pepsi or not in the scout cooler - good indication. I have thoroughly loved my 'reintroduction' to coffee. I see it as a 'sacrament' of sorts. I grind my beans just before brewing a cup. Pay attention to the flavor a as a kind of mindful meditation. Black, always black, unadulte

It is a wound that never heals - those wounds inflicted at 'life events' from birth to death. I recently stood outside the temple while my kid got married. I believe the church does this for two primary reasons. One is a punitive act to shame the piston excluded. The other is to use you as an example to other members-to keep them in line-so that your 'supposed' shaming does not fall on the.

What I have found useful is just memorizing a couple of realitivly 'neutral' statements to say to missionaries or others who may ask such a question. Like "I've found that the church just does not work for me and my family." Or, something longer like "I just cannot accept that Joseph Smith was a prophet after reading the church essays, scriptures, and praying about them. That is my

207. Re: Lost
It is traumatic to have the reality that you grew up with ripped away. Expect to go through a series of stages very similar to grieving. Denial, anger, and so forth. Your wife is likely farther along this journey than you are. For me it has now been over two years and I. Only recently have I been able to step into a church building and just feel pretty ambivalent about it all. Frankly, now what I

I think there is some confusion here between heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Lack of someone on the spot who knows what types of heat-illness looks like what to do is probably why the person died and others reached the point of collapsing before getting help. So for those of you who may be on these I offer a quick simple tutorial so you can better know when to step in. What is being called, in

They definition pick on female missionaries on looks and also interesting origin as a plus. Last time I was there - when in town visiting - we meet a female missionary from mainland China - she said she was only missionary from mainland China serving in the all the missionary ranks, masjid she. Cute as a bug as was her companion. Apparently she had converted the year before when she was an exchang
