I thought the troll policy was to protect the trolls. After all, they don't have a leg to stand on. I say let them walk into the meat grinder. It might be easier to provide a way for forum users to vote a "Troll Alert" tag onto a thread. In fact, maybe it's time for a ranking system to be devised. There are a lot of threads started here by well-meaning people that don't have much use

Did you know that all Mormons, even the apostles, consume and brew alcohol? That's right, yeast in your gut turns carbs (the staff of life) into alcohol. Nobody can say they never touch the stuff. http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20150305-the-man-who-gets-drunk-on-chips

I was just thinking the other day that mysteries have their place. When the day arrives that man understands woman, and woman understands man, the reason for existence will have ended. There's no substitute for direct experience. Enlightened societies would encourage direct experience rather than fighting it. People are taught to only trust other people's ideas of how things are instead of ask

I think I had an epiphany about the basic problem of Mormonism. Because of the way the Church evolved from one man's con, members are encouraged (well, if you want to enter heaven) to adopt a child-like mindset. Children obey. Become as a little child. The GAs are basically big kids. Their minds are in a child's world because that's where Mormonism works. They can't conceive of life outside of

It's not called "The hard problem of consciousness" (David Chalmers) for nothing. Nobody can agree on where consciousness resides, or when it resides. It's hard to understand something that can't theoretically exist but is right there in your face. But still, something funny happened on our march toward the singularity. Conscious machines didn't happen. Not at the human level, not at

I'm not under the illusion that any kind of rational reform is possible. Irrationality is the bedrock of TSCC. However, it's great for somebody to try. If you don't try, it's like giving up on your church family, such as it is. Love means never giving up: dissent should be viewed as such. But the people who manage to not fall off the crazy wagon will always look down on those who fell off.

Quantum computing by microtubules. The nature of consciousness is holographic: it's everywhere and nowhere but you experience it in the brain. When the brain dies, the consciousness leaves it because it was never material anyway. Penrose and Hameroff explain it better. Hameroff is a professional anesthesiologist at U of AZ. Penrose is a retired physicist. He was Stephen Hawking's PhD thesis advis

They assume that Darwin's theories of evolution are the same as today's. They're not. Darwin didn't put up ideological walls, so all comers were welcome. Vitalists, Lamarckians, Epigeneticists. All of that was narrowed down to strict material interpretation. The other aspects of genetics haven't had their Crick-Watson style breakthroughs because they are taboo.

In 1844, the war for independence was fresh in America's memory and the recently ratified constitution had "freedom of the press" as its #1 protection. The destruction of the Expositor was tantamount to the rape of America itself. The death of Joseph was poetic justice in action. You can rape our wives, you can rape our daughters. But you rape our country, you're going down. The A

That's a quick way to look past the Mormon bookshelf. Be prepared to be wowed and astonished as you journey down the rabbit hole. For this reason alone you should investigate with a critical eye. Some of your probabilities aren't even infinitesimal. They are absolutely zero. Why don't the absolute zero probabilities matter? Doesn't everyone want to know the truth? Sadly, no. People embrace

Making moral decisions is not seen as a responsibility. Instead, you abdicate that responsibility so you never gain the skill set required to navigate nuances and social situations. Moral sense is as simple as making friends. Mormonism turns this on its head by making you forget what friendship even means. That's why Mormon friends are fair weather friends in almost every case.

"one of the most respected litigators" That just means he's great at promoting his clients (in this case TSCC) regardless of the truth. At least to Steve, the truth is important.

Exactly. They love you but they don't know you. Or they despise you but they don't know you. They love the image they have of you in their minds. In Mormonism, everything of any value is imaginary. They don't love what is real whenever it interferes with their imaginary ideas. That happens a lot.

I once met George Washington in a dream. He was disgusted at how we revere Jefferson. So, I looked up Jefferson. I'm going to make this real simple. The US has a first world economy and a third world political system. That is obvious. The question to ask is "Why?". Because the Jeffersonian doctrine that has become the bedrock of American politics isn't suited to the 21st century.

Well, Okeydoke is a lawyer. Lawyers learn to divorce what they project from what they believe. They either do that or they quit law. Oaks is no quitter, so there you go. He's as unreal as they come, doing his utmost to fill the role of Apostle in a culture of unreality. It's not just unreal, it's surreal. Maybe TSCC is destined to fail. Look at what the leadership structure has evolved into. I
