Some very smart people in the tribe! Your theory on bias motivated reasoning is interesting. I was in SS when one lady argued with the teacher on WoW, why can’t we have this or that?

On the linked web page: I guess kudos for writing “humankind” rather than mankind but “people” could have worked... The emphasis on “join a community “ ha! Truth in advertising: TRY to join a non-welcoming community of people who will be suspicious of you ... (just my experience ) ...and expect you to work for free babysitting other people’s children...

While of course I don’t support LDS, after thinking about this I’ve decided it is a nice, high-level gesture, like diplomacy. I was rembering when a synagogue was victim of a mass shooting, somewhere in an Eastern state maybe New York, that the Muslim religious leaders not only came to the memorial but also offered to provide security for the synagogue. I think it can only be a good t

I was not knowledgeable about that story so I appreciated your explaining the basics as well as your advanced, in depth analysis. :)

No one has gotten Napoleon right in any of the m

I think if you haven’t figured out yet that LDS is all about what you call “trivial nonsense” then you have a long way to go before you leave the cult.

Bhar, I was a convert and so I don’t have a lot to add that would be relevant to your situation but I wish you well in your life journey. I didn’t read much when I was disillusioned, it was more to do with the people and the church behavior than any revelation about Joseph Smith. But the people here are very knowledgeable and all these recommendations are great, I’m sure. I hope,

There are a lot of lonely people out there who are vulnerable to scam artists. When I first joined LDS I wanted so much to belong and be accepted I would have turned over more than 10% if the Bishop had asked me to. :( It is a hard cruel world with many people seeing others as prey. Good post OP and good reminder.

Very interesting discussions here. A judge has today blocked my state of Mississippi law of no abortion after heartbeat. Btw, every public health clinic in my state offers free birth control to anyone walking in who wants it. Despite that I believe our teen pregnancy and unwed mothers birth rate is the highest in the nation. When I was the webmaster for a state agency I published those st

I kinda doubt if the Muslims think of him that way! My guess is Wendy wanted a free trip to see New Zealand. If the other poster quoting $800,000 for the cost of the private jet is correct, that means their excuse for going there was to donate around 10% of the cost of their trip. Less if you factor in hotels, meals and rental cars, costs of security etc.

Jordan, thank you, I enjoyed your film analyses here. It is always interesting to hear from knowledgeable people. Not a Kubrick fan but I enjoyed the scenery and costumes of Barry Lyndon. After this I may watch EWS. Thanks!
