"I formed the impression that Jordan has been the smartest person on a couple of boards and came to expect that would be his status on all the boards on which he chose to participate." Yeah. Kinda like being the best 16 year old football player in the 4th grade.

Nelson sounds like a clueless social misfit that would bring a recovering alcoholic a 5th of bourbon for his birthday.

Seems like it's not uncommon. I'm betting that zero MP's or their wive's have died, that way, on their mission.

https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2019/05/19/texas-teen-dies-during/ It seems like they lose a couple every year due to Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Maybe it's time for Mr.Mac to start selling missionary kits with CO detectors. Tragic.

Right? Is this the 2nd coming of "Positive Christianity"? It's amazing the current crop of idiots that have no sense of irony or history.

Not enough acid in juices to make a reaction. In fact, many lye based soaps are made scented by adding lemon, orange, lime, pineapple, etc. juices. Unless they had it chemically analyzed, it would be hard to say Drano. Plus, no one would take more than a sip before they spit it out. I'm doubting her story.

Where do you get your "facts"? Shurtleff wasn't removed from office. He wasn't in office. Swallow resigned. Swallow wasn't tried by a jury. BYU Judge Dee Benson (Utah good ole boy) dismissed the case. This isn't AM radio. You can't just make up stuff to fit your narrative.

In theory, that's how it's supposed to work. However, here, many Federal positions are filled with mormons. Including FBI posts. We watched how 2 Utah Attorney Generals were indicted and subpoenaed to turn over documents and property, both state and personal. They somehow managed to lose cell phones, a laptop, have their work and home computers hard drives wiped or crushed, I-pads stolen, etc. et

Exactly. People that have never lived in Utah can't comprehend how the law works, compared to the rest of the US. You have most lawmakers, prosecutors, Sheriffs,Police Chiefs, cops, investigators, Judges, AG's etc. etc. that swore an oath to the church, in a temple ritual, that they place above any and all other oaths they may have taken to the country, state, city, spouse, etc. The Utah bubble i

About a year after we moved in, I guess the ward got a new bishop. About 8-10 years younger then me. He came by our nevermo home and knocked on the door about 10 am Saturday morning. I opened the door. He reminded me of Homer Simpson's "Howdy Neighbor" guy. He said "Hi neighbor, I'm bishop xxxxx and just wanted to introduce myself". I said"Your name is Bishop?" He sa

No, I think it's when they hold the majority in population, politics, business, etc., they are not inclusive. The saying here, if you criticize them, the church or the state, is "Why don't you just move!". It's probably the most beautiful and diverse state in the country, but the dominant religion makes it unattractive.

Utah schools are run by Utahn's. "The" church runs most Utah officials. "Some things that are true, are not useful" seems to permeate most things in Utah society. Mormonism is a cult. The cult runs Utah. Truth is not a useful tool.

"In most places, Mormons are a religious minority and are treated as a part of the religious landscape. People don't think about them a whole lot." In EVERY place, outside of Utah, they are a religious minority. Plus, in other places they are much more polite and not pushy. Most of my neighbors, that moved here from other states, are embarrassed by the behavior and arrogance of Utah

Lots of good people here. :)" Yep, I agree. Great people. Great hospitality, great food. I miss the Red Beans and Rice festival (hope it's still an event) and Malcolm White's St. Pat's parade and celebr

Thanks. I know it's gotten better since I moved there in the 80's and left in the 90's. I still have friends there. I lived by the Rez, first on the Rankin county side, just past the spillway. Then moved to a subdivision called Dinsmore in Madison. Kept my boat in the Marina. I covered the whole state. It varied greatly by area as far as racism. I had to give a presentation to a group of customer

If not too much info, where in MS?. I attended the 1st Baptist church in Jackson. On State st. This was in the mid 90's. I attended with a girl I was dating that was a member. After the service, the usual greeters and deacons came to meet me. The entire service held about 1,200 people (one of 3 Sunday services). No black people. When I asked about that, one of the deacons, about 75 years old) sai

I agree. Someone(s) making bank off of construction and materials. Funny story. Ex-neighbor, Pioneer stock, 7 kids, ex- bishop, ex-stake prez, etc., sold his title company and made big bucks. Retired at 58. He inherited his boyhood farm in Cedar City. He and his sons developed in into a nice subdivision with equestrian lots. Probably 200 homes. Of course, he donated a prime piece of land for a wa

I grew up in Texas. Two friends/teammates were mormon. In Houston, you may have a friend for a year before you knew, or cared, what his religion was. One guy on my water ski team didn't drink coke after practice (coach bought us cokes). I asked him why-he said he was mormon. One weekend he invited me to play softball (this was in 9th grade.) Turns out it was his church softball. Everyone was nice,

How many days are temples open? Is there a huge backlog? They just announced the Saratoga Springs temple location. About 7 miles from the Mt. Timp temple and within 15 miles of 3 others. If they're only used a few days a week, perhaps they could open a few more days instead of building them on top of each other. Unless it's a money laundering scheme for connected brethren in construction and su

No, he doesn't write his own scripts, he's got a team of writers. That makes him a "hack"? Colbert, Fallon, Kimmel, Leno, Letterman, Carson, O'Brien, didn't write their own scripts either. P.S. your local and National newscasters don't write their own stuff either. I guess they're all hacks. Trevor Noah speaks 7 languages. He's a smart guy with a penchant for calling out Bullshit.
