I am reading volumes of church history by Jaroslav Pelikan, an eminent church historian. I just don't see where or when the apostasy was supposed to have taken place. What or when was the point of delineation? Can the Mormon church identify this break in the time line? How does the LDS church get around the identity of the Church when Christ said that the gates of hell will not prevail against

I was pretty sad to hear about FBC but am happy it was just a rumor which prompted me to suggest a Memorial Wall. Still there are many contributors to this Board that are no longer with us.

With the sad information that ForbiddenCokeDrinker is no longer with us, I am wondering if it wouldn't be good for RfM to add a Memorial Wall of names of those who have contributed to this site. He and others have added so much in sharing their joys, sadness, humor, etc. and they will always be missed. There are a few names that I can remember: XYZ Kathy Worthington Deeny the Dreaded... With

Thankfully it doesn't happen very often here, but ALL CAPS drive me nuts too. I even hate it when some consistently do this MORmON $hit. It gets old fast.

36. 40?
Where did the 40 wives come from? I've always heard that it was about 33 or so. Not that it makes a whole lot of difference, but there are 40 that are accounted for?

Are there temples that are temple-worthy? Most of the new ones are molded in Marriott-hotel style, but are there some of the older ones that have any architectural integrity -- both inside and out? I know that they can't be compared to cathedrals around the world.

I thought so too. There is a mosaic of Mohammed in the Library of Congress.

I had BYU-TV during GC on and only half paying attention while I was sitting at my computer reading RfM posts. I am not sure if I heard it correctly but did I hear Monson mention the beautiful prayer of Our Lord, The Our Father? If I heard this, do any Mormon know how to recite it verbatim? I thought this prayer was not part of any Mormon service and that folks really don't know it. 99%

...in my neck of the woods will not include BYU-TV on any of the package deals. I am going to miss my favorite comedy show, General Conference, in April and October. I am sure the Mormons around here are going to scream bloody murder. Not many of them here, but I think they will eventually get their way.

not the conventional cross, but one like two phallic symbols found atop some Mormon temples. The vertical one was bigger than the horizontal one, of course.

There is a fairly new Marriott Hotel in my city. There is brisk business as it is across the street from one of world's largest hospital. I didn't know this until today, but the name of the restaurant off the lobby is called "Saints." I will have to look at the menu sometimes to see if there is Jell-O or funeral potatoes among the side dishes.

I was talking to a long-time NoMo friend of mine today on the phone. She is very interested in genealogy and a while back she'd discovered that the two of us are cousins nine times removed although we live a continent apart. In our conversation I asked if she ever used records from the extensive Mormon genealogy records in SLC. She said that she refuses to use their records: 1) They are not v

I watched "Jesus Camp" last night. It's a documentary but it was scarier than any horror movie I've ever seen. Smug and arrogant adults were turning children into smug and arrogant beings. And I am a believer!

I saw Gladys Knight in a recent movie. She was singing with a gospel choir and she indeed has a wonderful voice with a heartfelt disposition. She was wearing a chain with a cross on it. How comes she gets to do this and yet it is frowned upon by the Mormon church.

49. Jell-O
Do any of these Jell-O recipes show up at Mormon get-togethers? http://offbeat.topix.com/story/12765 I scrolled down only one-fourth of the way before I had to stop.

I saw her on MSNBC this morning. And it almost seems like she is building up a fraud upon a fraud. Why would anyone want to continue to be a part of a bogus organization. I think she is just as nuts as anyone who wants to stay in a Mormon organization.

Shouldn't it be Handel's "Hallelujah" from the oratorio "Messiah"? There are lots of Hallelujahs throughout the chorus in all kinds of rhythmic variations.

Sprinkling is never done in the Catholic Church; Lutherans don't either. Don't know about other mainline churches. It is always pouring water over the top of the head. As one poster noted, immersion is becoming an option but it's mostly done in the churches that have installed a bigger baptismal receptacle. Adults and even babies cannot be immersed in the traditional font that is found in most of

The CEO of the Marriott Corporation is an ELCA Lutheran. I know him and he and his wife are members of a Lutheran Church in DC where they have Gay weddings <gasp>. They are a fine and unpretentious family.

By that, I mean, did Nephi write Nephi; Alma wrote Alma? In the Bible the books are written by individuals or a group of individuals, whether the names are accurate or not. It can be discerned however that there are different writing styles, even among the Gospel writers.

There are several churches that cropped up in the 19th century that claim that they are the true restorationist church after an apostasy of some 1900 years or at least since Nicaea: COJCOLDS, Seventh Day Adventists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Science, and heaven knows how many others. I think that the churches that stemmed from the Reformation in the 16th century only make the claim of reform

For me nothing beats a vodka martini with two big plump olives. When I am with Deaf friends and use signs as communication I always make sure that I ask for a regular glass so I don't knock it over. I hate those long stem glasses that they serve martinis in.

...many of you say that they dressed their father, mother or another dearly departed one in their temple garb, green apron and all. What does that mean? To put clothes on a deceased body, wouldn't that require shifting the body to get around the shoulders and other body parts? Does this actually take place? I can't think of anything more macabre.

Michelle Bachmann represents only a little corner of the outer TC suburban area (Stillwater). I very much doubt she would be elected anywhere else in the state.
