I felt that fear quite a bit at first, and I still feel a tinge of it now and again. I once did something intentionally to help myself get over it. Soon after I stopped believing and resigned 8 years ago I was at a dinner meeting for my work. There were about 25 people in the room, including some Mormons who were my friends back then, and they still are friends to this day. Drinks were being

I have had the same thoughts. Elohim doesn't know where Adam and Eve are, what they have been doing or what the serpent has been doing. Also, why does Jesus have to ask at the veil, "What is wanted?" after the three taps? While we are on this topic, what about Abraham and Isaac? After stopping the sacrifice god says through the angel, "Now I know that you fear God, because

As mentioned above, Joseph sent Orson Hyde on a mission to dedicate the land of Palestine and then married his wife while he was gone. Orson was absolutely crushed when he got home. This caused him to leave the church, but he came back. Interestingly, if he hadn't done this he would have been the senior apostle instead of BY.

Someone please confirm or set me straight on this. The potato is native to the new world, and the yam is native to Europe/Asia. It is possible to tell if an island was colonized from the new world or Asia by whether they had the yam or the potato. Almost all of the inhabitants of the pacific islands had yams at the time of discovery by white men except for some islands closest to South Americ

It seems to me that her desire to have peace is greater than her desire to have truth. I can empathize with that. I love peace, too. The difference is we chose truth over peace, no matter how painful it was. Kudos to all of you who had the strength and courage to choose truth over peace, consequences be damned. No matter what they might say, most of us sure as hell didn't "take the easy

$264k of tithing in five months, so maybe $600k for the entire year from that ward. If three wards meet in the building, then $1.8 million per year from that meeting house. I don't know how much the building cost to build, but I would guess that the tithing would pay off the building in 2-3 years. After that where does all of the money go? This makes the Ensign articles about bless

At the Ex-mo conference in 2006 a man told me he wore garments to a Halloween party in Park City. He dyed them red and wrote on them, "My parents went to the temple and all I got were these stupid underwear." He was a never-mo, wife of an ex-mo, and he didn't understand that you don't get garments just because your parents are married in the temple.

Some of you may want to tuck these away for future reference. "Now if any of you will deny the plurality of wives and continue to do so, I promise that you will be damned. The only men who become Gods, even the Sons of God, are those who enter into polygamy. Others attain unto a glory and may even be permitted to come into the presence of the Father and the Son: but they cannot reign a

As a teenager I was told by one of my leaders that polygamy would return and also be practiced in heaven, but that has been 25 years ago. The reason he believed this is because McConkie's Moron Doctrine clearly stated so. That book seemed to carry a lot of weight when I was growing up. That happened in Southern California.

Let me add: In 1833 the Church published the Book of Commandments, forerunner to the present Doctrine and Covenants. No reference was made to Joseph's first vision, although several references were made to the Book of Mormon and the circumstances of its origin. The first regular periodical to be published by the Church was The Evening and Morning Star, but its pages reveal no reference to t

Mystery solved: She finally confided that her father is going to testify against the FLDS church. I don't know if it is related to the food stamp fraud case or the abuse of municipal authority investigation. This couple plans to take care of a few things in Hilldale then go into hiding for a while until things settle down.

Since I first posted my friend told me that she mentioned recently that her father had been "making some waves" in the church and didn't always agree with the leaders. One possibility is that the father's family is being taken away from him, or she might be taken away from her husband because he hasn't been able to impregnate her. Either way I will probably never know. She isn't allo

The wife has been my friend’s nanny for the past few months. She moved with her husband here temporarily so he could work on a computer project that was supposed to last about six months. She is 32 years old and the only wife. They don’t have any children, so I think there is a fertility issue (or a worthiness issue – just kidding). She wears the typical prairie dresses and FLDS hair s

So the story goes like this: Husband and wife are getting a divorce and standing in front of the judge arguing about who gets what. The man is complaining about the large amount of money he recently spent on his wife's new boobs. The judge looks at him like he is crazy and asks, "So are you saying you want to divide up the boobs?" "No", says the husband, "I just want

How they fill several days with evidences of the Book of Mormon I will never know. The conference includes other Mormon related topics, but still. "Evidences for the BofM" should be a 2 1/2 minute talk. Some of the older guard will remember 2 1/2 minute talks in Sunday School before the switch to the three hour meeting block.

I believe one of the main reasons is that parts of her book imply or directly say that Joseph's son should have been his successor and the line of leadership should stay in the Smith family, which undermined BY.

When they seem to really be enjoying themselves, laughing and joking around, remind them they swore before god, angels and witnesses to avoid all light-mindedness and loud laughter. You wouldn't be a true friend if you didn't help them avoid a good ol' throat-slitting now would you? If your not afraid to really go over the top, put a sign across the street from the temple with a friendly gree

Yes, that statement does apply to Mormon people, but their scripture does not support that. In D&C 77 it is crystal clear that JS taught that the age of the earth is 6,000 years, which he seems to be claiming is direct revelation.

Zane Grey, the famous author of western novels, published a book in 1915 called The Rainbow Trail. His novels were some of the most popular western novels of all time, and some were quite unflattering to Mormons, especially his most popular title: Riders of the Purple Sage. I highly recommend both, by the way. Below is an interesting quote from The Rainbow Trail taken from a conversation
