It's my understanding that if the SCOTUS finds in favor of gay marriage, then the Federal government will have to recognize valid gay marriages as far as Federal benefits and military spouses. Recognition of a gay spouse of a military member is HUGE. Allowing Social Security to be paid to a gay spouse is equally HUGE. ~VOW

I just bought this. It will go on the eshelf in my Kindle, next to RaptorJesus's book! (I wish the Rock Center guys had used this as a reference instead of the Mormon Church PR guys!) ~VOW

From what I've learned right here on the exmormon recovery site, the fallacy of the bishop's warehouse was definitely misrepresented on the program. The idea that great trucking fleets are dispatched to all disaster sites was ludicrous! There wasn't enough stress on the fact that bishops "counsel" their flocks with NO training whatsoever. And I was super-disappointed over the lig

Mail order brides are nothing new. US men have gone outside of the States to find wives overseas for years. Russian women are popular. I think it was the H2 channel showing two men and their encounters. One man was a 38 year old from Utah. He visited Russia for three weeks, after corresponding for a while. And he left without proposing. I'd think a mail order bride would upset the

This will be difficult for you to accept. Your GF never loved you. She only loved the power she had over you. Abusers feed on that power. They are only looking to get their power fix. The seek out vulnerable people with insecurities, because those people can easily feed them the power they crave. The affection, the concern, the nice words, the sex...those are tools the abuser employs to

I read somewhere that the ocean voyage had been calculated, and the 344 day length is damned near impossible, unless Jaredites used the Israelite tactic of wandering around in circles. Prevailing winds and currents would make the trip a LOT shorter. But then, the Jaredites were early pioneers in the development of Mormon food storage practices. I'm sure the Jaredesses had plenty of hand cran

The business about being followed in the grocery store creeps me out! I'd go straight to the manager and say, "I feel threatened by this person's stalking behavior. Please follow me out to my car and stand there until I drive away." And drive straight to the police station. ~VOW

12. To RJ
I've been on a blog hiatus myself. And during this time, I found my brain still describing things in a way meant for the written word. I broke my writing fast this morning. Good luck with your future projects. I actually splurged the three bucks for your Kindle book, and I'll gladly shell out another three for the next one! (how much is your cut?) ~VOW

I'm sure any children conceived during this "ban" will be done immaculately. Although I know exactly what the Immaculate Conception means, the term itself cracks me up, because there's nothing "immaculate" about conception. Well, not if its done right! ~VOW

One of the Prophets taught that Elohim and Jesus were made of flesh and bone. The Holy Ghost is a spirit, so He's not as powerful. Only flesh and bone get the full honor of being Gods, and that's why Mormons don't buy the Trinity POV of Christianity. Since Elohim is flesh and bone, He actually showed up on Mary's doorstep and had sex with her to impregnate her with Jesus. Joseph Smith sai

I'm gonna take mia's suggestion one step further: YES, make that list of household chores, and take a COPY of it to the guy's wife. Tell her you "just wouldn't feel right" keeping him from his own work at home, that he should fix everything on that list IN HIS OWN HOUSE FIRST, and then he could come by and fix her stuff. If anything, the wife will love YOU forever, because her fix i

To Cabbie: actually, the eating of the flesh goes back to prehistoric times. Men would ritualistically eat the flesh of their prey, in order to gain insight, to help them in the hunt. They'd also wear the head of the animal, and dress in the skin, and re-enact the hunt. Their "magic" was to learn more about the prey, to become one with the prey. Eating the flesh and drinking the

In this country, marriage is not just a religious institution, but a legal one as well. The tax laws favor a married couple, and two wage-earners can appreciate paying less tax. Ownership of personal and real property can come into question if a couple is not married and one of them dies. For most folks who don't write best selling books, there isn't much to quibble about. But if one person

You'll probably be enticed by books referring to the "missing" books of the Bible. These fall into two categories: (1) The Apocryphal, or Deuterocanonical books of the Old Testament. Evangelicals will tell you these books were "added" by the Catholic Church in the 1500s. However, you can read St Augustine's writings where he lists the Biblical canon, and those books were

I've explained WHY I'm in this particular neck of the Internet woods, and you gave me a thrashing for being too presumptious. I do get a little irritated at your wholesale diagnosis--delivered with much vitriol--that anyone who believes in Go

Taking a college class "The Bible as Literature" can be insightful. It's usually credited as an English class, and typically the Old Testament is studied. You'll learn about the different sources of the stories, and how later "editors" took all the versions from the various tribes and brought them together in one book. I remember one story having two entirely different orig

I have just mentioned the hatred and vitriol you spew when you sit above the religious masses and "vow" (heh) that anyone who hasn't reached your loftiness of evolution is a lower life form. You preach, Steve. Like I said, Psych 101 called it "reaction formation." ~VOW

I don't get the blistering HATRED that is levied against Christianity. A person may pass judgment on any belief, but a need to "preach it from the rooftops" and insisting that people who don't reach the same conclusion must be demented, delusional, or not possessing the same level of intelligence is selfish beyond words. Believe MY way, or you're an idiot. Thanks, Steve. Rail

Why must the cousin "be taken to task?" I admit, my grasp of how ex-Mormonism can completely obliterate any belief in God is imperfect. I do get the concept of it. But this overwhelming need to proselytize Atheism by demeaning others' belief in God is extreme. We can't all be Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, conservatives, liberals, tree-huggers, capitalists, or warmongers.

One of the sweetest things I've seen is a TV show of felons in prison who are completely antisocial, dangerous people. Through their actions, they have lost all their privileges, and they exist as barely above animals. Someone got the bright idea to reach out to these difficult men, by giving them rescued cats from shelters. There is something poetic about men on death row making pets from ani

I think it would be advantageous from your POV, Steve, if you could find a way to explain that the "Mormon Jesus" is DIFFERENT than the "Christian Jesus." Specifically, the detour that Mormon Jesus took on His way to Heaven at the Ascension. The current insistence by Mormons today that they are indeed Christian could possibly be stopped in its tracks if these same Mormons
