From: http://morningstarpost.wordpress.com/2014/05/20/mormon-church-losing-members-in-record-numbers-around-the-world/ "In Smith’s private writings discovered in the archives of the church, Smith admitted that his most prized earthly possession was an object called a Jupiter Talisman that he insisted on wearing around his neck at all times for protection from harm. According to sat

If my Child was in this mission and the MP's wife publicly discussed issues regarding his or her mental illness, physical illness, or "disobedience" even if no name were mentioned, I would be one very pissed off Dad.

that pundits on tv don't say everyday. That the federal government enslaves people today by creating dependence. They just don't use the same poor word choice.

Not disagreeing with your approach. I am going through a similar situation. But I realize in doing so that I bend to allow the children to go and be part of what is a very strange micro-society and than I try to limit how much they participate. It really doesn't work very well...in the end, at least for me. The church will eventually force me to let them be in or take them out.

Yes. Any religion that successfully creates followers who willingly agree to only read church approved material... is a cult.

They realize that the Book of Abraham and Book of Mormon are works of fiction OR they know that there is a mountain of real evidence out there and they simply refuse to review it. They then bear witness to family and friends that they are Ancient Records translated by the power of God either directly or by simply saying the Church is "true". And than they denigrate ex-mormons by i

For those of us who go with spouses and children to Sacrament Meeting or more in an attempt to "keep the peace", do you ever wonder how you are viewed by those sitting around you? My wife attends a Ward where she knows very few people. When I go with her, I dress very casually, never bow my head, never take the sacrament, and moan quietly throughout in an attempt to assuage the pain

the whole "Emperor has no clothes" thing. Certain people see the naked Emperor, smile and wave back. Certain people see the naked Emperor look around and say WTF is going on. I just don't understand the first group and I have to resort to a belief that they just don't see the nudity. Either that or the Emperor isn't as naked as I think he is OR people are really just dish

hard, by letting others tell them how to live and think - much easier that way. Maybe we all do it to some extent but in the LDS church and many other Christian churches I find that it is taken to a another level. I get the sense that many take their Children to Church in hopes that the Church will raise them. Takes the pressure off. Just show up, pay a fee and do/think what you are told.

Jesus is likely just Hercules in Jewish form. It is hypocritical to claim that the Bible is factual, that Jesus is the example Christian, and than to claim per the Old Testament, that non-hetero humans will go to hell. Maybe what you are trying to say in relation to the question posed is that humans are capable of stretching their minds around anything that helps them deal with their curren

I mean - if I thought the church was absolutely true..and that belief was based on a testimony that the book of mormon was actually translated from a set of golden plates written by Jews writing in reformed egyptian... and than I found out that there was a mountain of evidence proving that this was false - and that mountain caused me to have at least some doubt as to the books "divi

believe the mormon church is "true". There is just too much evidence that shows that it is all based on a hoax that got out of control. As an adult believer, I wasn't informed, I was young and dumb and that is my excuse. I am sticking to it. When the internet arrived, I learned about all of the church approved and other sources I could read and... Shazam - I was informed. D

It took me a number of years to figure out what you just put into a few sentences. Fortunately, my wife and I are still together and she accepts and now agrees to some extent that it is all made up. Unfortunately - she still attends for social reasons and insists that the children attend as well. Attendance isn't regular and we both discuss with them the oddities they learn at church.

1. Mission - literally counting days on a calendar kept in my backpack. Learning how to look busy doing things that made little sense to me. I knew I had been trained to sell and I didn't understand why the gospel needed to be "sold". 2. Being placed on probation for sex after mission. Meeting with Bishopric during which counselor tells me in very angry voice that he can see evil i

If you are currently an LDS Bishop or have been a Bishop, how do or how did you feel about counseling young couples to get married first in the Temple with a ring ceremony after... when that marriage ceremony excluded close family? Do you or did you ever feel like something was not right about it?

"The average Mormon family as constituted here on Earth isn’t going to be the same family in heaven. That’s because not everyone will be worthy. Statistically speaking, families aren’t forever. Somebody in every family is always going to be too apathetic, too unconventional, too stubborn or just too evil to make the celestial kingdom" http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/lifestyle/

Spend some real time in an LDS church as a non-tithe paying, dark blue shirt wearing, sacrament avoiding, stand outside the prayer circling, middle aged male... and you will quickly realize that there is a first class and a second class system for men in the church. (Technically, the women are always second class) Not that anyone is mean to the second class guy...he just isn't going to be

I am no logician or theologian. My memory is slowly going. I'm sure my IQ is average at best. But when the LDS Church tells me I need to choose to believe, I feel like the smartest guy in the room. Choose to believe what? If I choose to believe that Joseph Smith met with a Floating Moroni, or translated a set of gold plates whilst looking at a rock at the bottom of a hat...couldn't
