I have felt "The Spirit" plenty of times. Maybe stronger than some, and less strong than others. I'd like to mention the spiritual experiences of people from other faiths, like these from members of True Jesus Church: http://testimoniesofotherfaiths.blogspot.com/search/label/True%20Jesus%20Church If these people ever started to doubt the True Jesus Church, they would probably ha

I just went on and asked if the missionary had read the recent essays. He had. He said he and other online missionaries had dealt with them, but he didn't think it was standard procedure to train all missionaries on the essays. I didn't hassle him, though. Just told him I was a curious exmo, wondering if the missionaries were now more informed than I was on my mission. Then I wished him good

Yes, but I didn't tell anyone. I accidentally let on that it had really shocked me on my mission while on splits with the ward mission leader's son, who was about to leave on a mission. I said something to the effect of the temple made me say to myself, "what the heck kind of religion am I part of?" the first time I went through. My comp and the kid both looked at me really weird, an

This is out of context, but it's the best part of that talk: "We are commanded to love our neighbors, not to manipulate them, even for righteous purposes." -Dallin H. Oaks

What are the worst LDS quotes about obedience? Here are some of mine: #1, by far: “There is no need for you or for me, in this enlightened age when the fullness of the gospel has been restored, to sail uncharted seas or to travel unmarked roads in search of truth. A loving Heavenly Father has plotted our course and provided an unfailing guide — even obedience." -Thomas Monson,

Thanks! I just watched the documentary. It was pretty fun, and very sad and creepy. He really must be completely narcissistic. Just like someone else we all know and love.

Here's an interesting cross post from another forum, in relation to this article. It's a Hasidic Jewish apologist saying basically all of the same things. http://www.baismedrash.com/2011/05/apikorsus-is-the-new-black-part-1/ "Difference between Apikores and a 'questioner' Questioner has questions. Apikores has answers. Moshol: This one pole holds up this whole building. A questioner

THIS^^. Seeing both of these theories laid out next to each other and watching the apologists refute each other finally convinced me that they were all full of crap. I love it. This video is fantastic!

"But the obscurity of scripture does go a long way toward explaining its persistent appeal. Paraphrasing the Kabbalah scholar Gershom Scholem, Steinberg notes that the very definition of a prophetic text is 'a story that can generate endless meanings, endless interpretations, a story that isn’t limited in time or place to one particular interpretation and that is frankly weird and plastic

Haha, in my mission, elders would pull the dashboard fuse to kill the odometer (along with the entire dash), or would put the car in neutral at high speeds and then turn off the car and coast. You gotta get around reporting those miles somehow! St. Louis, 2002-2004.

I'd recommend Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs, and Steel" on this topic, too. It opened my eyes to the fact that so much of my privelege in life comes from lucky circumstances. I DON'T somehow deserve all the advantages I've inherited. I've simply become the beneficiaries of lucky distant ancestors, who had access to better starting resources than others. He simply talks about history

This video is also AWESOME- https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PL5F1EB3B4F919226D&v=ycUvC9s4VYA It shows lots of testimonies from various religions, some of whom there is NO WAY a Mormon could agree with. Still, they are just as strong, and just as heartfelt.

From what I can tell, there are lots of flavors of testimony. Some are more similar than others. I've found Mormon testimonies to be most like Baptist, Muslim, and Jehovah's Witness testimonies, as far as what the people actually describe experiencing.

You can compare "Testimonies" from people of lots of different religions here: http://testimoniesofotherfaiths.blogspot.com/ Check out the Christian ones, but also check out the Muslim, Baha'i, and others.

Wow, the author is super racist. Benson doesn't actually mention race at all in his foreward. He just goes on and on about the moral outrage of Communism and how we have betrayed our country and soldiers by trading with the enemy. He's really emotional and sounds like a nut job. It's probably not super relevant to any mormon doctrine, but it does make Benson sound a bit crazy.

Here's a very thorough refutation of Meldrum's DNA Evidences DVDs, which he uses to support the heartland model. This is a pro-LDS source, which makes it even more important to TBMs. http://www.fairmormon.org/reviews-of-dna-evidence-for-book-of-mormon-geography
