A sociopath and con man, like all of them. Mike Watkiss called him "the Caligula of polygamy."

and brought me to RfM in 2006. Bunch of big epiphanies, one of which was that FLDS and Mormon are the same religion: https://www.exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,67303,67719#msg-67719 The TV series is really good, if you can take the willies ... super huge ones for me! At first I had a hard time with how pious all the Mormon characters are, talking about Heavenly Father and what-have-you outside

Being married and not knowing how babies are made ... ugh! Never mind that you have to marry an 85-yo man, and your father is proud of that. BTW I saw your thread but didn't reply to it because of all the RLDS stuff. What is that, lol.

or I should say I tried to. I fell asleep and now need to rewatch most of Parts One and Two. Also maybe not the best idea, since I'm still processing the stuff that Under the Banner of Heaven dredged up. That helped me realize I was literally *trained* to accept abuse and am still not finished working through that. When I'm treated badly, instead of just going, "That's unacceptable"

9. No!
You may remember me complaining about my “kooky mo-mom” here, for years. Last year was the worst year of my life, getting her into assisted living, because dementia. Surprise, lol. And now that her filters have stopped working, it’s beyond obvious she never even liked me, much less loved me. Duh. Also, interestingly, she has little to no interest in the Mormon church.

The Mormon characters in the show are much more pious than I remember, but OMG how they talk to one another gives me the worst willies! Nearly 20 years ago, reading the book made me aware of my church-related issues and gave me some new ones that were worse. Now the show has helped me realize I was *trained* to accept abuse. I was only forced to participate for 6 years, so I can only imagine h

Every year - well, let's say most years - I tell myself I won't get sucked into the Festival of Brainwashed Nonsense, but then something happens and I end up watching some of it. And it strikes me as even creepier and more ridiculous and offensive than the last time I got sucked in, and I wonder how anyone can sit through that and take it seriously. Last night I stopped by RfM to check on some

Hi, exmos. I came here to see if Russell Nelson really said soaking is OK, lol. Yeah, I'm still a pretty big sucker. I'm also having the WORST YEAR EVER, thanks to Munchymomom and her failures to provide for herself and her stuff. I won't bore you with details; suffice it to say it would have been bad even if she had died in her sleep like she wanted to believe she would. Instead, she has s

Good grief, what are they doing that for. I thought I might get away with not watching any of the latest dusty old con man festival ... but no, thanks to this thread. And thanks for the laff and the wtf moment. :)

15. Vapes
I know, everyone thinks vaping is bad now. I smoked for 40 years, 1 pack a day and sometimes 2 for at least the last 10 years. I finally quit in May 2017, while living in a hotel where I had to go outside to smoke. It had only just warmed up after an extra long, cold winter, so I was down to less than half a pack a day. Then I went to visit a non-smoking friend for 4 days, and I knew it would

They're so brainwashed, they can't even imagine what an un-brainwashed person might actually think.

I have the hardest time believing they're really just saving the money for Armageddon or whatever, and not doing some other shady thing(s) with it. Because I still say it would be really hard to make your way to the top of the organization and not figure out that there's no god involved. They're certainly not saving the money to help members or anyone else; they're just betting that most membe

Begrudging boomer here, born in 1960. I've always identified more with Generation X. I was a latchkey kid, for example.

Being Mormon felt weird, embarrassing, and oppressive. Plus it's pretty obvious there's no god ... certainly not the Mormon one who has many wives, picks a bunch of ridiculous old men to represent him, and always needs money.

I watched it last night. What a CF this case was, even more than we already knew. Also this quote from Josh: "I'm rather depressed, moody, irritable, when I get away from things I know are right." Ugh. Code for not being a proper Mormon.

That'll keep 'em in, fer sure. I have to say I'm a little confused about what the intrique is: the demonstration, or wondering what that wild & crazy Russell M. Nelson will do next?

I am well—back in Utah for 3-1/2 years now. It doesn't feel like that long, and I guess it's been about 5 years since I posted very regularly. I must have worked out my stuff. Anyway I'm delighted to find familiar folks and have my presence acknowledged. Best to you as well.

I like that someone has come up with a description other than PTSD. I also agree about the attention-seeking. I've wondered if it really wasn't like that in the 1970s when I was forced to participate, or if it's just the internet calling more attention to it.

29. I know.
I might have said something else if I hadn't already watched the stupid thing. I was taken aback that she called to tell me that and only that, like hurry up and watch this. It was super extra weird, and that's really saying something with Munchymomom. Plus I just refuse to get into it with her anymore. I did watch the show, and if she asks me about it I can talk matter-of-factly about it. It

bloviating at the institution now known as BYU Idaho. Clearly, the man was preoccupied with power and influence. And how happy am I that somehow, after escaping that institution in 1980, I had the good sense to stop subjecting myself to that crap?! So patronizing, sooooo boring, so joyless and completely stifling. I barely remember what it would have felt like to take him seriously, but I can
