I was a freshman at the Y living in the dorms, and a large group of us went to see The Exorcist as it was playing downtown. That movie freaked out some of the guys so badly that they felt the need to 'fess up about it. Like they had done something wrong. My memory is a little hazy, but I think some of them even went so far as to get a "priesthood blessing" from our RA. That little

Hood River has a train ride that goes up towards Mt. Hood and back. The evening we did it it was a dinner/murder mystery. It was fantastic.

So I wonder how many of those peter priesthoods would use that as an opportunity to look at some porn, guilt free?

Taking a shortcut, I recently drove through the worst neighborhood in my midsize community. It's pretty ghetto; I wouldn't drive around there at night. Lo and behold, whom do I spot wandering the street? You guessed it! The mishies here must not have got the memo about the "elect".

So I'm an ex-Mormon, married 25 yrs to a never-mo. She has always been a religious person; volunteers in her congregation, attends fairly regularly, etc. But has never pushed religion on me; she knows how I feel about LDS Inc., and religion in general. Live and let live. But, she's been getting more religious over the last year or two, and yesterday she dropped, what is to me, the mother of

My brother got into an argument with the early morning seminary teacher, flipped him off in class, and walked out. Truly classic.

I'm on puppy watch. My black lab is in the process of birthing a litter as I write this. 2 born, hopefully another 7 or so. This will probably take several hours. A planned litter.

A white panel van with no back windows. The kind my teenage and young adult daughters refer to as a "creeper van".

Had a good T dinner at TBM parents...only they and one son (and family) are TBM. Everyone else is exmo, jackmo, or nevermo. Out of their combined 7 grown kids and families, only one family is active. I think for the first time in my life I didn't hear one word - not one! about church anything. Yeah, there was the obligatory prayer, but overall, it was enjoyable. The sound of silence was dea

Can't help but flashback to the toga party scene in "Animal House" where Pinto has the devil and angel on his shoulders, and the passed out underage high school girl in front of him. Someone should photoshop that scene and put a flaming sword in the angels hand...

3 kids. Me - resigned Younger bro - Jackmo. He will not ever go back. No way. Younger sis - deceased. No children. When TBM mom passes on, that will be the end of mormonism in my immediate family. Both parents were BIC, with pioneer ancestors. The buck stops here!

My mother was on a senior mission when her father died. She elected to stay on the mish and not come home. My understanding is that she had a choice in this. Lots of her family is nevermo and exmo, including the dad who died. Mormons think they are setting some kind of great spiritual example of their dedication and holiness when they do this. The reality is that it only impresses fellow

They should sell off the chapels/stake centers and start building GIANT mega-worship centers like some of the newer age Christian congregations are doing. They could have 3-4 wards attend at once. Use it for 3 blocks on Sunday and you could take care of an entire community (except maybe in heavily populated areas of UT). For the Utards, they would have to move Sun school and priesthood to a

One more thing - you said you were thinking about going into teaching. As a public school teacher, I'd strongly recommend aiming for the community college or university level. There was a big thread on here recently about teaching as a career. Read it. It may help you make a decision.

I live in a small town that is part of the Spokane mission (I think). If you do go on the mission, and have problems, or just need a place to take a break, put out a call here for Heathen. I check the board daily and will see it. Personally, I'd recommend not going. You already know it's false...you need to do what's right for you, not for your family and friends.

A lot of stylish hats in the mid-1800s were made of beaver felt, the super soft, insulating underfur of a beaver. It would be entirely fitting if ol' Joe started out his religion facedeep in a beaver. Couldn't resist.

Agree with most of your thoughts. Only disagreement is the money issue. More money won't solve the problem. New curricula, programs, accountability, etc. won't help. It's all about the kids and their desire to learn, and to work at it.
