My wife is a nevermo, but was raised mainstream Christian. I am a confirmed agnostic. Over the years I have watched her become more and more involved in her religious community. It is to the point that I resent her choosing "church" over "us". Just like your wife, she has her fairy tale and won't even try to think logically through any arguments. The only difference in our

FYI - I have heard through the teaching grapevine, and from a teacher relative there, and from relatives with kids in the system there, that Oregon's K-12 public ed system is screwed up. Lots of funding issues. I'm a WA State teacher. I will give you this - Oregon is a beautiful state. It would be on my short list as a place to retire.

The temple rituals and all the secrecy surrounding them. When my best friend wouldn't tell me anything except "it was weird", and then clammed up, I knew something was fishy. I did not go on a mission, and one of the reasons why was the temple. The Mormon church never, ever, made me feel good. Deborah Laakes (sp?) book was also a big giant nail in the coffin of Mormonism for me. E

Any heterosexual man can testify that it doesn't take a glimpse of a woman's skin to have a sexual thought. The way a woman is dressed really doesn't matter. Fantasy (what we can't see) is more stimulating. It's like reading a book vs. watching the movie. If all I could see was a woman's face, I would still wonder... One can't help having the thought, but one certainly can control the respons

Like I said, the cool-aid is strong. I haven't yet had the chance to sit down and discuss this with them. I may never do it - just planting a seed. Their response blew me away. I have to think that they are at least wondering WTF just a little bit.

I emailed a link to his blog to my TBM parents. Only said, "there's some interesting church things happening in New Zealand." Thought this might be a non-threatening way to get a dialog started. The cool-aid must be pretty strong...got back a reply "at first we didn't understand what he was talking about...did some reading (essays?)...turns out his issues are just misunderstandi

That wasn't a lab. It was one of the three Nephites wearing a fur coat. :-) Sorry. Not making fun of your pain. Screw TSSC.

Every Sunday morning you could put up a big Mormonthink sign in your front yard (or banner on your house). Who knows? You might get a few to visit the website.

I would bet that most of the BIC males on this forum experienced a lot of the pressure that you are getting, especially the ones that didn't want to go. Personally, I was bribed with the offer of a new car when I returned. It was oh so tempting...but I just couldn't do it. I'm not and have never been a door-to-door type guy. Tracting would have been hell, and trying to sell something I didn't

Bishop: Heathen, do you have any problems with masturbation? Heathen: Nope. Works every time! I wish I would have had the cajones to actually use that line.

I know a man who has been in a high church position down in South America. Can't remember his exact title, but he was pretty far up the food chain. Along the lines of an MP or similar. He has mentioned paying bribes to government officials "to get things done". No shame in admitting it either. I don't think they even see it as a problem.

What he needs to be wary of is "friends" with ulterior motives. Have you talked with him much about Mormonism? Does he know how they operate and fellowship? And how he may be an attractive target for them? I think the most important thing you can or should do is to educate him about how Mormonism works. Knowledge is power. As for making some real friends, I would suggest to just d

Patriarchal blessings - I never had mine done. The craziness of the whole idea just freaked me out. The 3 Nephites - Let's get real here. I never believed for a second that there were 3 immortal dudes running around saving LDS people from various calamities. Nucking futs!

One thing I noticed is that I couldn't find a date anywhere on Translation of the BOM article to show when it was written or published. I looked pretty closely, but may have missed it. Maybe they left it undated for a reason, just like they are unsigned.

Well, I don't know about marriages, but in one of my TBM relative families with 8 cousins, 6 of those marriages have ended in divorce. I haven't kept up with the latest news in that particular family, but if Mormons are getting recycled in the temple at that rate, it could throw off your stats.

I almost missed this - the scout with the rainbow scarf is a leader...don't see many bald boy scouts. Could be wrong, but I really doubt it's a Mormon troop. Kudos to that leader and his scouts.
