A Utah teacher who quit - what profession did you change over to? I've been looking at making a change for many of the reasons brought out in this thread. It's disheartening to see so many kids just not care, and I think it's ludicrous to evaluate and replace teachers whose students don't measure up (that's where the profession is headed). I can not control the student's home life, his

So the big question that nobody has asked: What is your dream car (that you might lease)? Mine would be a 2015 Challenger SRT with the Hellcat engine. I could have some fun in a car like that.

Yeah. I was there for a year learning Russian. It was a blast. A lot like college, just harder. Only drawback was that almost everybody was under the thumb of their respective service branch.

Wow. I thought it was just me. Very much the same thing going on. I call it "suffering from CRS (can't remember sh!t)". I am convinced this is not part of the normal aging process. I am 50. Specific details about big events, even the event itself, just aren't there. I voiced my concerns to the Dr, they gave me a simple cognitive test and to them everything seems to be ok. I'm not a s

Skip Pullman. Save your time and money and go visit a real destination college football town. Nothing but wheat fields and drunk college kids. Seriously.

No. Not from apathy (like I think my parents believed), but from a strong sense that the whole thing was bullsh*t. At that point in time, I couldn't really come out and say that.

Don't laugh, but my earliest memory is potty training. I distinctly remember my mother showing me how to take 4 squares of toilet paper and wipe my butt. Don't know how old I was. Don't think I was one of those super late, hard to train types. So, somewhere around 2?

Yep. When my tbm mom was on a senior mission, her father passed away. She didn't come home for his funeral, and she was stateside. You had better believe that everyone at the funeral noticed she wasn't there - and couldn't believe it. Most were nevermo or jackmo. I don't think anyone ever called her out on it (including me). Someone should have. And mormons wonder why a lot people have

Hope you like it! For people who love the great outdoors, it is a pretty decent place. Make sure you get up to Sandpoint and Lake Pend o'Reille (sp?) and also Priest Lake. God's country! I live in the center of the state in a blazing hot desert. Way too many Mormons here.

It's not as bad a some posters would make it seem. A lot of people not from Washington don't realize that the center of the state is almost a desert. So it is dry, and windy sometimes. There are a lot of minorities, especially in Pasco. Some of the school systems are not the best. And, there are a lot of Mormons. But they pretty much blend in; there are way more non-mormons. It's not like Utah

So my very young adult daughter (a nevermo) has several good LDS friends, one of whom is getting married this summer. In the temple. The maid of honor is not LDS, and has to wait outside. I don't get it...kind of an honorary title I guess? Do temple weddings even have best men and maids of honor? But I digress. My daughter has been asked to help plan a bachelorette party. To be held, at lea

^^ This ^^ This phrase came about way back...some dozen or more yrs ago, courtesy of a poster named Nepa. (if recollection serves me right). He was well-known here for deconverting some missionaries and trying to help them out on their way out of the church. Haven't seen him post here regularly for a long time, but he did do a drive by once not too long ago.

Maybe all those excommunicated Mafia members could infiltrate the Mormon Church and conduct a hostile takeover. The sheeple probably wouldn't even notice a difference.

My money's on a disfellowship, with orders to cease and desist OW. She will refuse, and then be exed later after the commotion dies down. Which will then open up the whole can of worms again.

Par for the course. I remember back in the 80's at the Y having to be groomed and dressed just right in order to take a test at the testing center - or else get reported to the standards office. That whole atmosphere of "your neighbor might be tattling on you" was one big red flag for me. And I hated it. Who in their right mind would put up with such crap? And what kind of "chur

Yes. And it has caused a few problems. I was an experienced drinker when I met my wife, a nevermo. Normal teenage party stuff, and a stint in the Army as a young man. Learned the difference between buzzed, drunk, and shit-faced. Learned to drink responsibly. Wife comes from a family with a lot of alcoholism; she was verbally abused, etc. She lived the ugly side of it, and she is not opposed

To clarify, I have not seen or heard of any missionaries in the buildings. I'm sure they would be escorted out promptly. I'm talking about on the sidewalks around our high school, and possibly on the grounds. Definitely talking to kids. I am going to talk to the principal on Monday and let him know what is happening.

So the missionaries have been hanging out at our local high school - at least twice in the last couple of weeks, and I think I spotted them a couple of days ago as well (but they were walking away from me so I couldn't tell). They have been talking to kids and proselyting. Not in the building proper that I know of, but on the sidewalks and campus grounds. Seeing as how most of these kids are j

Love the poem! For me, it was a good luck/bad luck story. I was adopted at birth by a Mormon family. So I'm thankful - and pissed off - at the same time. Didn't help that I have always been a skeptic, and dad was an abusive, TBM whack job.

My TBM mom is getting on in years, and the only two children are jackmo and me, an exmo. Almost all her living relatives are nonmo. I do not in any way, shape or form want to have to deal with a mormon funeral. I hate the Mormon church with a passion, and would never want to subject the relatives to the preaching. Do I disregard her wishes? Would I be a horrible child if I did?

Think you're definitely on to something with the electronics angle. On a related note, one of my daughters joined the Navy about a year ago, and lasted only a week or so. They gave her a general discharge for "anxiety issues" or some such. This was a normal, smart, extremely social, very athletic girl. They took her electronics and her ability to e-socialize away, and she couldn't ha

Show up to the court right as its scheduled to begin, with a witness or two, and hand them the resignation letter. Tell them they cannot proceed with their stupid little kangaroo court. Walk around the room and ask every single one of them their full legal name, address and phone number - writing this all down as you go. Maybe whip out your cell camera and take a picture too. Tell them you ar
