Here are a couple of threads from a while back that were somewhat successful in stimulating this conversation. http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,759783,759783#msg-759783 http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,760317,760317#msg-760317 My main intent was to see how much social relationships and consequences impacted choices in exposing and challenging the Church. Anonymity does incre

I agree. I am thinking what are effective ways to disarm them and challenge their effort to control the narrative. Even if there has been an offense, requiring the point to be explored forces them to express whether he was genuine or not. If it were someone with whom Moose had little or no interaction it would seem effective. If he is genuine about worrying about having offended Moose it w

I am intrigued mostly by his effort to make it about him. Did you already reply to the text? Why not text something like "What did you do to offend me?"

Some very poor neighborhoods and also heavily industrialized areas. It is also interesting to see a branch for the entire downtown Portland community--the

Leaving in droves can be tricky to document with the assumptions that Mormons put in place. The chapels for every ward and branch require on average a membership of 519 members using their numbers. My understanding is that most ward building have the capacity for half of that and branch buildings significantly less than 519 seats. The other point to make on the best day of attendance in your

http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1577093,1577093#msg-1577093 If you check out the link below the Portland, Oregon part of my post you will be able to see that the Portland Oregon East stake was the most likely stake in the area for assimilation. I would project the Lake Oswego Stake with 7 wards next for incorporation into surrounding stakes and then the Mt. Hood Stake with 6 wards a

I am not sure I have seen this quality as a way to differentiate a healthy stake. I hear that Sandy and the University Heights district in SLC are in decline. I can think of areas in California that have had stakes close where there is relative wealth. I can also think of affluent neigorhood with just one ward for one chapel.

Exactly, as suspected, but needed to be said. The pecking order is not as pure as some suspect. Also, no one has brought up an instance when the spouse of the higher authority finds herself in conflict with a lesser authority and how that plays out. I can't think of an incident right now, but I have my suspicions lower authorities roll over and play nice with the spouse.

So Temple President is sub-ordinate to a Stake President. Clearly if I understand what you wrote. Other posters on here about women. Clearly to them the wife of an area authority is subordinate to her home teacher, agent of her bishop. I don't think that is reality and perhaps reflects on different Mormon experiences. I definitely have seen the politics of Mormonism and it is not j

Most likely. When the issue is something like an excommunication of Dehlin, the Church maintains SP. What if it is a temple recommend for an area authority friend that the temple president knows is lying to get recommend or a missionary son of area authority friend that MP is able to send home for serious violations. I know it is what ifs and maybes, but this is where their obedience and ambit

I agree it is make believe. Have you ever seen children play make believe and be entertained by who shot who and who is dead. Well..... When two Mormon authorities are in the room and it is unclear who is the prevailing authority. I think it is mostly clear up until the SP. Beyond that is can get muddled. What if a CES Director follows his employeers directions and finds himself in co

Maybe there is no answer, but there must have been times when CES leaders, temple presidents, mission presidents, area authorities, regional authorities found themselves in a situation and had no clear line of command. Perhaps I am missing something, but in the competition for title this seems to be where the real competition starts doe the stake presidents and the members of the CES/church em

So I am trying to provoke an instance where that may be unclear. Any thoughts? Any experiences where the big dick in the room wasn't obvious and there was a priesthood power play? Imagine a higher up CES director as a bishop and a rancher stake president in a doctrinal dispute. Might seem obvious the SP wins, are we sure? CES are rather well-connected to SLC and are often times used for PR

So a mission president, area authority, and temple president are in the same room in San Diego. Let's say La Jolla Marriott drinking sprites and snacking on ahi tuna appetizers. There is a disagreement. Who is the the top pimp on finalizing an issue at this meeting? Or do they have to call a member of the 70, or an apostle?

The Church reports a membership of over 15.3 million members worldwide. Sarcasm does not often translate well on the Internet, so I imagine there is some confusion as to claimed membership. I put forward two of the most powerful measures we have as former Mormons or NOMs operating as stake, ward, or clerk executives are the numbers at a local or regional level. I would like to find a way to h

I'll bet the Noblesville, Ward would prefer to be in the healthy Indianapolis stake with its neighbor Carmel than in the not so healthy distant stake of Muncie. What does that mean locally though, stake positions for Noblesville priesthood? Muncie is stagnant or declining and should be rolled into another stake? This would mean a healthy stake is next to an unhealthy stake. How does the Churc

Here is a region in SLC with several stakes that have the configuration that could meet your specifics. https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zbv3-8dIlf6k.kSEWjzrB8qWE&msa=0&ll=40.59512,-111.863308&spn=0.044644,0.090895 Some posters prefer to keep specifics to a minimum, but the conversation about what makes for a healthy stake can be more detailed with these maps. Perhaps a point is made when someone declares a stake or ward healthy or growing by looking at surrounding stakes. The state of Indiana has some things to look at as far as what makes for a healthy stake or a healthy ward. Only locals, especially long-time locals would know the dynamics of shifts and growth/decline. Are the Indianapolis stakes healthy then? Are the Indiana stakes healthy?

What is a healthy LDS stake? Quite a bit of discussion about numbers lately. I think it is an area where the Church is struggling to keep up appearances. Cook and others still refer to the Church as growing and healthy. Some post here that their LDS community is healthy, others that it is dying or dead. I've tried to include some of these areas. I think it is a possible, but challenging task

I think you will find diverse opinions on this situation. I believe that former Mormons that are homosexual have different challenges than former Mormons that are straight. It can be the difference between being rejected and rejecting. I am interested in the conversation from those that disagree, but I do have some close friends that were Mormons, homosexual and became former Mormons. S

It was not publicized or promoted so many people that would have resigned just left rather than ask to be excommunicated by priesthood people they did not recognize as spiritual leaders worthy of recognizing as such. The primary way this will get recognized is if Rubio does well a

Threads like these seem so out of place here. The only way it would be in place is if Gladys Knight were saying she thinks people that perform at casinos will go to hell or suffer some other Mormon God harm.
