I agree with you although not to question these numbers, but of what population. The Address Unknown file has likely purged 5 million members out of local congregations, making the total worldwide membership 10 million. I think 40% activity rate for an LDS ward would be uncommon even for a ward that has purged its members that have been confirmed as disappeared from their ward boundaries.

He writes very well. He also has a problem. A broken mirror. He fails to recognize he is yelling at the mirror. This is from his letter. "I lie to my children when they question an aspect of church history or doctrine, because the truth would place them in the same pressure cooker I am in. I lie to my wife because she finds the truth so disturbing. I lie because telling the truth

Yes. This is a conversation I want to have. Former Mormons can be baited into the Mormon narrative with terms like faith crisis. The reality is that Mormonism is an assault on knowledge and information. Those that represent or feign knowledge, but choose faith are in a complete break. Someone who says they had a faith crisis, but came throuh resolved on Mormonism are also representing a

I agree, but cannot think of any people benefitting from the Mormon charity of green aprons and tethered white caps. Temple rituals are some of the most superfluous things that can be done. I suspect temples are about distributing the money to preferred members, collecting money, and perhaps government corruption. It also means a lot to the people that really believe the Mormon narrative.

This was the what caused me to make my first thread and post on RfM. I felt like this was an example of a conflict between Mormonism and government. Mormons should be active in government, but this case is an example of conflicts of interest. I think these conflicts of interest are immeasurable throughout society. Primarily because of transparency issues. http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.

I think Yahoo is using an algorithm that includes topical news stories that would be of interest based on websites frequented by the address. It is likely Mormons are getting the same major news with interest stories on yarn, family, and the decline of the Western world sprinkled in where we are getting the negative stories on Mormonism because we feequents a site like RfM. I am seeing the

Truss! Welcome to RfM, first and only post. Hope you will return soon. If you do please comment on this concern. Mark posted a screensave of a letter he wrote expanding his feelings about the Opposing vote. He states early on that he has not willfully been in a fight since his marriage and that the only fights that he has been in were to defend himself. He adds that he would defend himse

The Oath of Vengeance Temple Oath up until 1920's is pretty dark. The Death Cult Oath of suicide up until 1990 is pretty dark. There might not be surviving Mormons that took this oath, but there are surviving Mormons that know about this oath. Maybe these were so dark the author of the article did not kmow they existed. I don't know where on the top 10 I would put them though and which i wo

What potential conflicts of interest between government and Mormonism/Mormon operations do you think exist? I was thinking perhaps someone in Treasury/IRS with a stake calling or even better a calling that has church subsidies. Anyone aware of a former IRS agent that went on to become a Mission President with its financial subsidies?

Unless humbly corrected. I will put forward that 30 years later a Mormon apostle, Quentin Cook, openly discusses the possibility of resignation of Mormon membership in General Conference. This was a first. I expect there are Mormons that did not know that resignation of membership is an option.

This metric is one that can be exposed. It is not doctrine. I think whenever possible it is worthwhile to effectively challenge a report, blog, article, or comment that includes the number from the Church of 15.4 million. That is a frankenstein number that no doubt includes the dead, TBMs, former Mormons, and as you say people that never existed or knew they were listed as Mormons. It is

The 36% number would be on membership on congregation records. There is this chunk of people warehoused as members in a file called the Address Unknow File. They are considered members of record even though the Church has no contact with them. It is rumored that they remain in the membership count until the age of 110. So if there were 5 million members in the Address Unknown File that wo

Quentin Cook. A self-claimed apostle stood up on Saturday and said things have never been better for thE Mormon church. Your representation for Scotland is that things have never been worse. I don't think you make any claims to being an apostle! I think you are more trustworthy and consistent with what I know to be reliable facts. I prefer to believe you.

Tapir Dan just weighed in with support for Coach Attuaia. He did so with a sense of humor. I hope Mark sorts this out and finds a way to make this all good. He was wrong and should just put it to rest in a good way.

Thanks for the chuckle wow. I agree with your numbers. My range of self-identifying Mormons is 3 to 5 million. I am a bit generous in that I count inactive Jack Mormons and a bit of a stickler that an unresigned NOM that helps out with scouts is still Mormon-light. The massive Address Unknow File which I put at around 5 million as well and the Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Philippines census

http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,987121,987121#msg-987121 A while back I put forward that a Mormon "faith crisis" had become an acceptable rite of passage as long as the resolution was to continue on the path while doubting your doubts. I have seen an emerging twitter celebrity, BYU football Coach Mark Atuaia, present himself out of the flare up over #AnyOpposed tweet he made

Perhaps the emeritus status opens the door for defections though. I am not as current as I should be, but it seems to me that the emeritus status has given former leaders a path to inactivity and apostasy. As it is now there have been no inactive or apostate apostles for generations. It is a solution, but the issue to me seems to be within the leadership, not the membership. Why does a 90

If I were managing the succession of leadership issue within the LDS church I would find the challenges staggering. I really do think the general membership would be accepting of a healthier system that was somewhat political, perhaps a revelation vote conducted by the 15 or 14, or even an appointment by the outgoing prophet. I don't think the 15 would fair well with a secession order other

Perhaps this might be a red flag for parents that allow their children to particpate in primary for aocial reasons. Perhaps this sister knows that the primary programming can be effective in developing an individual that is inclined towards Mormonism and uncomfortable when opposing Mormonism. Child development does have science. I believe the Mormon church knows this and implements this in

There has been a challenge to the BYU accreditation authority on a related matter about toleration of members that have come to a different faith decision about Mormonism after having started their education at BYU. Were BYU to ignore this behavior this would be evidence that the employees of the Church/BYU are allowed to threaten people that no longer have faith in Mormon leaders and Mormonis

So you think this lessens the children of record number growth. I am sure that the number of children born to a parent of record is greater than the number of children that do not get baptized by age nine having been a child of record. I am not so sure that number is removed from the total number of children born to a parent of record or that have a parent that converts to Mormonism. I am pre

I do not think people should resign their membership if they prefer not to follow the LDS process of making a request in writing, but perhaps these are related. Perhaps the Mormons prefer you remain Mormon, become their burden or chore, rather than make noise when you leave.

Another number that is not documented, but should be significant would be children of record that turn nine years old without being baptized. They are counted as members as babies. If they don't become baptized by nine that is a membership deduction.

I think so, but the LDS church does not think so. So you are both, kind of. You are no longer Mormon, but the Mormons still consider you Mormon! If they find out an un resigned Mormon has a child that child is on their records until it turns nine, it is my understanding they do not need to be blessed to be counted on the records for nine years or until they are baptized. What is most interes
