"Being offended" is not a new mormon paradigm. It is as old as the church -- think milk strippings. They don't want to acknowledge the possibility of a reasoned and intelligent withdrawal.

I have no advice that you haven't already heard a million times I am sure. I only have an open heart and concern. I hope you know that there are so many people who care about you and want only peace for you. I am so sorry for you awful pain.

When someone has the courage to share their deepest pain and despair they should never have to worry about how they will be received here. RFM should be a safe place. I don't respond much, but I have read your posts RP, and I am also reading your book (and enjoying it greatly, BTW). I am sorry for the pain you are suffering and only wish you the best. One step at a time . . . . .

I think Sister Dalton got it in a nutshell when she said this: (as quoted in a SLTrib aritcle on women and the priesthood) "Years ago," Dalton said, "when I was vacuuming this carpet — trying to act well my small part. . . ." Kind of makes my stomach roll over. With leaders like this, what are the chances women will ever have a real voice?

The other night I was browsing through the guide on my TV and saw that Johnny Lingo was on -- and it wasn't a BYU or church channel. Didn't watch it cause I can recite it myself with no commercial interriptions!

Even in my active days I was pretty pro-feminist and very aware of the second class status of women in the church. And in theory I was very much for women having the priesthood. BUT I sure as hell did NOT want it. And that was my reason -- I had enough to do and didn't want one more thing on my plate.

I'd give her the benefit of the doubt on this one and attend as a show of support and love. We want unconditional love and support from our parents even though our choices are not their choices. We should show the same behavior. HOWEVER, if this becomes a pattern and it is clear that support is not what she is looking for, but rather a way to involve you with TSCC, then that is a whole new bal

What really bugged me about this is that she didn't even call it a 'civil wedding' -- just a 'civil'. Like it didn't even deserve to be called a wedding. I really like this SIL and her family. Due to miles we don't interact often but I have made a point to travel for each of their kids' weddings even though it was a stand outside with the great unwashed thing. So I am for sure going to be the

She is 20-21. Active in the church, been to the temple although not for a mission. She is now suddenly (don't really know how sudden since I'm not in close contact, but judging from Facebook posts, just a few months of dating at the most). She is not getting married in the temple, and of course I don't know why, but you can bet I will be there with bells on to support her amongst all the sidew

So when the congretation is singing "Have I Done Any Good In the World Today", you can respond, "Why yes, YES I have!" Good job.

Wow! I was thinking the lightning thing as you described it! But no Harry Potter for you. Hope it heals quickly and that you feel well soon. BTW - coconut oil is a wonderful healer for scars. After the wound has closed, just rub some on a few times a day.

You nailed it, Munchy. I grew up with parents who loved to tell my how I was feeling and judge harshly -- then I became entangled in a church that does the same. Frying pan into fire -- not so very bright of me. Loved your post.

So glad that your daughter is getting the care that she needs. You have been so strong and brave throughout all this and you must be exhausted. Sending you good thoughts, hugs and hope that things go well for your daughter, you and the rest of your family. You have all had a lot to deal with.

I'm considering purchasing an ipad. I do NOT have a MAC, just a lowly PC and will not be able to get a MAC at this time. But I am wondering how well an ipad will work with a PC. Specifically regarding moving photos around, etc. any advice?

I am a 67 years old woman. I was active (from part-member/inactive parents) beginning in the late 50's. I think the 50's and 60's were the golden age of the church. It was before correlation and was a great time -- in my memory. It could be I remember it wrong. But I believe it has become ever more cultish, paranoid and closed since then. With that background -- I often wonder if my life

Even without the mysogynist theology, the church is a TERRIBLE place to raise children -- for the simple reason that you are encouraged to have so many children and then it sucks all of your time and energy so that you cannot be the best parent to them. When I was living in Utah - where I raised my family - and would go visit my married children in other cities I would see families out toget
