Open door: "Oh great, missionaries again. I really don't understand why you keep showing up when I am clearly not interested. I am a lesbian and I really have NO interest in supporting a religion that has no place for me or for my partner. Please don't come back again." If you are feeling like it you could add something about wasting your time and their time when they are sup

I believe they will use cell phones and even computers if necessary for their business dealings. But they don't want to bring that world into their homes, hence a place outside to leave them.

I worked in a Utah hospital in the blood bank/transfusion dept. I got a call one day from a patient who was going to be receiving a transfusion and he wanted me to know that he didn't want "any white man's blood".

My endowment was at the Oakland temple in 1965. I sat in a huge auditorium listening to a tape recording. No movie, no live "actors" -- just disembodied voices in a big, dimly lit room full of strangers. My fiance was there but seated with all the other bakers, of course, and I had no family with me. The temple people knew that it was my first time but they did not supply an escort.

I think that one time in a talk Benson said that it is impossible to be a Democrat and a good Mormon (yeah, he said "Mormon" LOL) A good friend was teaching at the BYU Law School at the time and a student approached him and asked if that was true. My friend's response was, "Yes, and people like Benson are the reason why." And I believe there is agriculture facility at B

I wouldn't return anything, even unopened, because in the end she will see it as an acknowledgement. Just throw anything from her in the trash. I also have a narcissistic sister whom I have had to block from my life. Not easy but necessary. Good luck.

But it would need to be "J. Horatio Christ" or whatever it is that the 'H' stands for. Or perhaps the increasingly-popular "J. F-ing Christ".

I had a good bishop and had good memories of him. He was sincere and seemed to really be interested in the youth. My interaction with him had always been positive. He was a high school teacher and also taught seminary. All of my good feelings changed many years later when my sister told me that he had tried very hard to dissuade her husband from marrying her because our parents were part member

I believe it was Boyd K Packer who was behind the mandate that all songs sung at church/church-related activities must be from the approved hymnal. That pretty much quashed any chance of musical diversity or innovation. I'm pretty sure he has sealed his legacy as wet blanket of the latter days.

I've been using Instacart for longer than a year. On the whole I really like it. Fresh produce is the only real problem area. The shoppers do not always choose the best. Aside from that and some unwanted substitutions it has been great.

I am not musically sophisticated. All I know is that I enjoyed singing the songs. I don't have a great voice, but I enjoy singing. And singing is the only thing I miss about the church. I frequently find myself humming or singing them.

When DH was dying I had quite the long discussion with the bishop about the funeral that my husband had planned. I showed him the program that had been put together and there was some discussion. He was concerned about the number of speakers - our four children and our son-in-law, who would give short remarks, and then two M. Priesthood-holding close and long-time friends of DH. He finally agree

Maybe the church actually plants pre-conference rumors just hoping it will get more people to tune in.

Hi Dimmesdale, I remember way back then. It is about when I this place also and I have always enjoyed your posts. The board seems a much more serious place now than it was then. I don't spend as much time here as I used to but I like to check in a couple of times a week. Also a big thanks from me to all those who keep this place going.

I used to think about the image I would draw to represent the Mormon woman (if I could only draw). It would be a woman, in a dress of course, and clearly not professional. She would be standing on a pedestal surrounded by concertina wire and with an armed guard. The church wants women to stay on their pedestals, feel adored and not get in the way. Obviously I always saw that pedestal as a pri

I disagree. It is the Mormon church that cares little for family despite their lip service. And I think this is a great solution. Let the TM's deal with exclusion for a change. Maybe it will help nudge some needed change in the church's cruel wedding rules.
