They aren't all the same. Unitarians are very different from Scientologists. Insular thinking now belongs to Ideology.

Ballard's peak was in the fifties, which entailed a failed nepotistic Edsel dealership. Heavenly Father subsequently chose him to be an apostle, a witness to the name of Jesus Christ. Even Jesus Christ. It has been decades since he has done an honest days work.

They are showing their age and isolation again. These old guys grew up in an era with sodomy laws, they have been surrounded by yes-men sycophants for decades. None dare question a prophet or apostle. Meanwhile the rest of western society has (largely) grown up and realized that gay people have always been with us, and they are our friends and family, time to stop treating them like shit. The

I watched it, and I suspect many LDS viewed it as a powerful last testimony, maybe even like Bruce McConkie's last address. I don't believe a word of Mormonism, but I have no doubt that this was very moving to many who do.

The bible, especially the old testament, most of it is so ridiculous that every time I read it my belief in god became a little bit weaker.

This is from a very entertaining set of debates between historian Phillip Jenkins and Brother Hamblin of (some LDS apologetic think tank) which is very entertaining to read in it's entirety. I started following this thanks to Infants on Thrones podcast which amuses me during my morning commute http://www.patheos.com/blogs/anxiousbench/2015/06/the-nahom-follies/

Boy scouts are too gay for mormons, they need to prepare their sons to enter the MTC where they will shower with each other.

The usual mormon double standard, they are free to gush about whatever magical idea that pops into their mind, but you aren't allowed to express your ideas.

I actually kind of feel sorry for mid-management mormons like these guys, they waste an incredible amount of their lives in boring meetings, and doing futile things like the one you describe, all while wearing an uncomfortable black suit and tie. Meanwhile, I spent all day Sunday at the lake having fun with my kids. If they are really lucky, imaginary prophet will get an imaginary inspiration

I was a missionary there in the late eighties, I can't say much about the English membership, but at the time the french congregations were small, if you were a male, gainfully employed, married with children, you would be bishop. Funny, I almost never went to church while in Montreal we just tracted instead, it was more enjoyable. I think there was two french wards in the city that met in the
