Anubis, could you provide a reference (link) for your comment on the 7+ boards? I am compiling information related to this topic, and this would be very helpful.

Not too long ago, I ran across a .pdf file online, detailing available senior mission assignments. There were a significant number of them described (maybe 30-40?) and I was very surprised that only a few of them had anything to do with service/humanitarian aid/etc. Most were free labor for one of the many for-profit ventures of TSCC. I can't seem to locate the document, and I would like to r

My little one was singing that song this morning....I had to ask her to stop, for the exact same reason. It creeped me out, sounded like TSCC "owns" her. I don't like it. That being said, pretty much all of TSCC's music sucks. The arrangments are boring and monotonous. Most of the primary songs have a weird factor that puts me off, but come to think of it, weirdness/awkwardness is c

+1 absolutely. These are the types of topics that I focus on, in discussions with tbm spouse. In certain areas, it's cracking the shell.

I was not aware of a 2nd manifesto....wasn't the first manifesto referred to as "revelation"? I still do not completely follow how TSCC can claim that certain rules/commandments have come straight from the mouth of God, but then they continue to break them as if it were something that they just made up cuz it sounded good. Such as the word of wisdom. That's one question that trip

I was a bible-believing Christian throughout my childhood, and I definitely believed that I would, of course, see my family in heaven. It's often one of those comforting things that people tell others when faced with the death of a loved one. I can't imagine *not* thinking that, ever.

It's wonderful to let go of all of the working-mom guilt, good for you. I couldn't stand the consistent RS lessons harping on this topic, especially the ones specifically geared toward convincing women that a meaningful education and/or a professional career were nothing but "selfish". It got really old being the only one in the room raising a hand to call BS on that. All the best t

YW teacher Nursery person (don't really know what this one is called) Primary teacher VT I was not heavily involved in callings, and quit when I felt that it was becoming too much. I also had no problem saying "no" to a calling when I didn't want to do it. I dont' think TSCC leaders had any idea what to think of me.

...."I never would have married you, if I had known you would leave the church." Awesome. Would anyone mind adding a few humorous ones to the list, please? I could really use it right now. Thx!

I didn't think about BYU, I guess all 3 of them would take a significant amount of funding. But aren't the missionaries self-funded? (that was one of the selling points touted in my missionary discussions) It sounds like none of these given answers have much to do with "charity", although a tax-writeoff as charitable giving. It also sounds like there is a lot of money that is not acc

I feel awful for this kid. Didn't grow up in TSCC & didn't realize it was that bad for kids in the church. Even if I screwed up royally, my nevermo parents would have been angry/upset/disappointed, but I never felt like I had to do anything extreme to escape my situation. I really don't understand not allowing your young-adult children to act like young adults and make their own decisions. Do

Spinoff of the tithing/financial topics today. I have yet to get a straight answer from anyone regarding where tithing money goes. I have heard these "official" one-liners: 1. Tithing is used to build temples 2. Tithing is used to maintain the buildings, and 3. Tithing is used to "build the kingdom" No idea what that last one means. I have inquired of a bishop and w

Personally, I would prefer to resign immediately and have no further contact with the organization whatsoever. I'm done. But I have kids, and spouse is not on board. My name stays on the membership list as long as my kids' names do (my call). I will have them removed, but the process with spouse is going to take time. My marriage is more important than a formality, and although I do not believ

Just curious....the BoM being received as "revelation" using magic rocks, rather than a translation of an ancient record was rather shocking. Found out a few months ago. (If the missionaries had been forthright with these facts, I would have shaken their hands and invited them to leave. Forever.) "Modern revelation" is touted as a selling point, the big difference between T

Sounds a lot like spouse & I. Thanks for putting your story out there. Makes me think marriage might be possible with this big, annoying obstacle sitting right in the middle of it. Best wishes to you & your family.

Has it been your experience that some of the most die-hard TBMs are not willing to discuss/defend the wackier parts of TSCC doctrine, but will go to the mat to defend it as a culture? BIC spouse seems to lean this way -- chapel mormon, and not terribly well-versed in any aspect of doctrine. Pat sunday school answers have been memorized for years, but there is no desire to know more than what i

First time poster here. Member for double-digit years, convert as young adult, temple marriage, young kids. Spouse is a "chapel mormon" -- attends on Sundays, but has no problem missing church often, no big callings, etc., but defends TSCC when difficult issues come up. Common responses: "I wasn't there", "we don't know everything about how God works", "I d
