As I was heading for the exit I too, like many of us, tried to hold on to some vestige or find a niche. During that time I was meeting frequently with Jeff Holland. I had just read an article by a BYU professor (Richard Poll) about Iron Rod Mormons (only one path) and Liahona Mormons (general direction). I decided to make this a topic of conversation in one of my discussions with Jeff. He

What a tangled web they weave. Even more disingenuous in that the statements are unaccredited to any official author and that they themselves can be denied as "not doctrine" when the time comes. I'd say that time is sometime after November when Romney has lost and the mainstream media no longer gives a rat's ass about Mormonism.

Buddha taught as one of the four eternal truths that “life is suffering”. But it is through that suffering that we grow and develop. We escape the traditions and dogma of our parents and their parents by virtue of that growth. It is through this process that we create our own unique spirituality. The real answers to life do not come from a pulpit or from between two blue book covers. We ar

Some of you know me, some of you don't. Those that do know that I'm not much of a fence sitter. I fall into the category of those that feel Mormonism is a cult that ruins families, destroys lives, and controls even basic thoughts of it's followers. Enough said on that. I frequently get disgusted and impatient with fence sitters like Joanna Brooks (Mormon Girl) or John Dehlin (Mormon Stories

Since you don't know me, I have my doubts that you understand either of those things. I'll leave the subtle promptings to you.

Fantastic until you start defining and then speaking for that "god" and pretending to know it's will.

Morals and ethics don't come from religion. Religion simply mimics the cooperative conduct of successful populations and then pretends that it was the idea of their deity. I agree that religion has played a role in manipulating certain segments of some populations into societal compliance. BUT the atrocities committed under religious motivations in my opinion far outweigh any benefits.

Ignorance and religiosity correlate. There is something seriously wrong with a nation that least objects to Evangelicals as president.  Religion is such a scourge to rational progress.  Barkers of fantasy rage and fan the flames, the great God of the Gaps rears it's ugly head, the demons wake.

He snapped back because he has already carefully, clearly and extensively addressed each of your questions in the information already provided. It appears that you either aren't reading his answers, or that you don't understand them. Have a nice evening and Happy Spring Equinox to you! :)

Guynoir, just some insight from my point of view. Jim and I were present during the events, I attended BYU in the late 70's and Jim has obviously done a lot of research. We were and are on the front lines of the culture in Utah. We know a little bit about the topics of which we write. You don't have the same grasp of the culture but thrive in a different environment. You were not at BYU or

Jim, thanks for your comments and clarifications. It's interesting to me to note that even though I was present at the time, understood the culture and the events that were occurring and even though I read the news reports of the tax issues at BYU; I still bought it hook line and sinker as a "marvelous revelation from on high". Years later looking back I can only marvel at what faithf

The utter hypocrisy of BYU astounds me almost beyond words. In the Davies case, eschewing the words of Christ they cast the first public stone and then used the event to gain national notoriety. Notoriety that came though pundits who really have no clue as to the subversive, manipulative, snitch, police state that exists at BYU. The BYU honor code in practice has been exposed by hard irrefutable

I personally handed my letter to one of the apostles during a meeting I had with him on a Wednesday morning, and received a confirmation letter, dated the same day Wednesday, from Dodge in the mail the following day. No come back, no do you understand what you are doing. My letter said, "Per your request, your name has been removed from the records of the Church". The thing that am

OH how quaint, she really thinks there were an Adam and Eve. It amazes me that someone who can actually read and write (I'm assuming she actually wrote this) could believe any of it.

I believe in the value system of Christianity, but not in the belief system around the savior deity born of a virgin, miracle performing demigod. It's hard to imagine how one could understand the following words and still think Christianity had any integrity. Constantine Osiris Isis Horus Paganism Council of Nicea Jesus Once one understands those principles and the interconnections Ch

I'm not so sure I agree with your comment. A first string all time record rusher (Unga) was kicked off the FB team last year for sex with his girlfriend. I believe a DUI arrest would be public record rather than a twitter rumor. I guess we'll see

He's not in the moridor, he's on the East coast. Many of his ward members agree with him. The bad publicity that TSCC would receive by giving this man any grief at all would be substantial. They won't touch him, and many of his ward members may even give him an attaboy. He's a courageous, educated man standing in defense of his son. You can't touch that and the church will make no attempt

Hi Rod, just noticed your post. I've never really written out my story, at least not chronologically. But if you google SLDrone you get a pretty good idea of what I'm about. I guess I really should sit down some day and write my story, but I honestly don't think "my story" matters. I'd rather tell my story through writing essays of the things I've learned.

From the article: "Elder Packer, president of the LDS Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, also has a very long and well-documented history of teaching love for people with homosexual attractions." My response: These authors are liars. Boyd K. Packer has a long history of teaching LOVE for homosexuals? Are you effing kidding me? This is the most blatant lie I've ever he

As a mission president, I never once asked about it, and yet many of the elders seemed conditioned to want to talk about it. I frankly got weary of hearing about it and so I developed a pretty good 60 second spiel that relieved them of their guilt and helped them put it in perspective. Even as a TBM mission president, I did not view masturbation as wrong or in any way unnatural. In my expe
