Helen Radkey, former Mormon and well-known researcher of LDS posthumous temple work for non-Mormons, appeared twice as the guest on Doris Hanson’s show, “Polygamy: What Love is this.” All of the following is from notes I took from the second show, the one on Sept. 2, 2010. Link: http://www.aboutpolygamy.com/episodes/2010/ep335.htm First, Helen states and emphasizes that all the info

At first, the anguish and sense of betrayal are overwhelming!!! Something that helped me deal with those feelings was this 3-minute video of Eric, the man who founded this website. I highly recommend it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS58S-xPdzI Welcome to the board, Fred. Keep posting!

In fact, the first time I moved to a ward where, at the end of the sacrament passing, I saw deacons NOT sit down and wait to get permission to return to sit with their families, I thought, "Oh no, they'll get in trouble for not waiting for the bishop to dismiss them!" It turned out to be the way things were done in that ward. Perhaps it hinges on local custom.

"Is it important to you that a church be honest with its members regarding its history, its doctrine, and its practices?" Their hearing aid is turned OFF to anything you, the apostate, say about why you left the church. In their minds, you are wrong before you open your mouth! Therefore, whatever their answer is to the above, YOU continue to be the one to ask the questions!

Of course, the fact that every pastor of a REAL Christian church has had years of serious Bible study and other training first, while a Mormon bishop has had zilch, does not stop Mormon leaders from deliberately mis-using the term "pastor" in order to appear more mainstream.

I felt (and feel) no judgment of you! I regret that it came across differently in my post. Nevertheless, I appreciate your comments. Let me try again. Those of us who have been out of the church for some time now, look back in shock at how we submitted to having our boundaries invaded. We were betraying ourselves by doing so, but we didn't even know it yet! It took a long time—too long!

Your DB should dump that clueless no-Mo counselor and find a non-Mo therapist knowledgeable about PTSD and about effective therapy for rape survivors. Addressing these two related issues NOW is the #1 priority!

You are! So why participate? Mormonism conditions its sheeple to find it difficult to say “no”… but you can make a new choice. You say, “I had to sit and listen and 'converse' in the mormon way.” No, you didn’t! You THOUGHT you had to. But why do you owe them the courtesy of conversing when their sole goal is to pressure you, guilt you, and shame you back into church activity?

And very funny! Among the best gems: “We are counseled to commit to a lifetime of learning and to study out of the best books in order to have truth on our side and make wise decisions on our own as part of our mortal probation. “This applies to every form of truth, save one…the knowledge of the truthfulness of our doctrine and the historicity of the Book of Mormon. The Lord has clea

In no ward I was in or visited did I ever see a nursing-mom-&-baby anywhere other than in the “mothers’ room.” Our whole culture has a hang-up about this. Once it finally gets over it, wait another century and the LDS church may start allowing discreet nursing in its meetings.

I agree with the poster in a previous thread who predicted that they will TALK about being more forthcoming and blah, blah, blah... without actually doing so in any significant way.

...the sheer panic of Mormon church leaders evident in their near-inability to form a sentence that does not include the word "tithing" says a great deal.

...of a prophet who was basically worshipped by his followers? It is tough enough today to be an ostracized new exmo. How could an ostracized ex-prophet's wife-and-divorcee haved fended for herself back in those days?

…would you happen to know the story about why/how Mary Sturlaugson Eyre (author of the out-of-print “A Soul So Rebellious”) disappeared from the LDS scene? ETA: Her husband was white and they eventually divorced. I don't know if the church was a factor. I just wonder why we have heard nothing about her for years.
