I take a lot of taxis in the large midwestern city where I live and work. Regular taxis here charge a flat rate from downtown to airports and a metered rate for everything else. Uber operates in my city. But for my own safety as a woman, I prefer to support an industry that is regulated and whose drivers are trained and decently compensated. (You trust your life to somebody when you get in their

A thorough post-mortem psychoanalysis of BKP may offer some insight into the developmental and social conditions that shaped his character. However, in the end all we can do is evaluate his character based on his legacy to Mormons. And that legacy is not worthy of a scintilla of respect in my view.

This is brilliant--I'm happy you're back! In addition to all nutty the Mormony stuff, you manage to capture the essence of central Illinois, where I lived for several years. I got into the habit of referring to the proliferation of shirtless men who amble about as "topless" men. Which makes them sound more interesting to outsiders :) I hope you continue to post!

Friendships can change (and wither) over time. It's sad to lose that attachment when it happens, even it's better for everybody in the long run. I'm glad you have a strong network of friends who support and accept you now.

The term was coined by Vince Pierce, who appears in the 2010 documentary, "Catfish". He describes how catfish were used to keep cod "agile" as an analogy for the online behavior of his wife, Angela, the original catfish, who had misrepresented herself to one of the filmmakers: "They used to tank cod from Alaska all the way to China. They'd keep them in vats in the

Brilliant letter. Congratulations! My favorite line is, "But what is the point in affiliating with an organization that pigheadedly asserts that authority is given to a person based on the tiny bits of dangly flesh that wobble awkwardly between their legs?"

The book the documentary is based on makes explicit analogies between Scientology and Mormonism and I wonder if the movie will touch on them at all. Here's a direct quote about the Book of Abraham: "This fraud has been known for decades, but it has made little difference in the growth of the religion or the devotion of its adherents. Belief in the irrational is one definition of fait

This thread should be archived. It is a historical testament to the Church's true heartlessness and cruelty.
