I'm a vegetarian, and because of that I'm effectively allergic to meat at this point. If I accidentally consume a little meat juice I feel like I'd been punched in the stomach and have strange pains in the back of my neck. Totally not the same thing. So if invited to BBQ's I bring my own entrees, and no it hasn't reduced the amount of invites.

He sounds like he's trying to be nice, but as Suckafoo pointed out it comes across as highly condescending. He's "disturbed?" That's what people say after a snuff film. He'll likely only provide more naive insults, or ignore you. "I absolutely confirm that the plan of happiness found in the scriptures and which we taught to the investigators in Denmark is God’s plan an there

Many Mormons only respond favorably to either total validation/compliance with their delusion, or punishment. Appealing to their better side is usually a waste of time. I eventually had to deliver an ultimatum as a last resort but I wish I'd done it sooner, it's one of the only things they understand.

---While it does not support gay marriage, XYZ says it is another myth that the Mormon Church hates gays. "People think we hate them, but we don't hate gays or lesbians. I have friends who are gay and I love them". XYZ added that the church actively supports every other right for gays except marriage.--- I don't think anyone gives a shit how Mormons feel in their special little heart

my point, anyway. It wasn't meant to be scientific, obviously, since neither the author or myself are psychoanalysts. There are "earmarks" of narcissism and outright diagnoses. For example, a TBM friend of mine presents narcissistic traits, but he doesn't qualify for a NPD diagnosis. He actually has ADD which is responsible for those traits. It helps me to sympathize, rather than re

I was reading more in-depth on the subject of Narcissism, particularly to better understand and sympathize with my painfully narcissistic parents. I found this after googling "religious narcissism". This is taken strictly from the NT with the perspective that Jesus was a clear and dangerous narcissist. The points the author makes are stunningly similar to J Smith's patterns. http://s

She mentioned that the kid's companion used a metal bar to stick into the lion's mouth to wrestle it off, and the ZL was helping too. But did she bother to praise the remarkable heroism of those young men? No, it was just miracle, miracle, miracle, god did it, god did it, Mormons are so elect and blessed. Really pissed me off actually. Perfect example of the knee-jerk dehumanization of nearly eve

I would just use a regular door knocker with a sign appended that reads "i might be upstairs--please knock three times loudly." and then "what is wanted." catch em off guard more I guess.

"""The pain, the tears, the struggle, the absence of any real and authentic joy are all explained away as "trials" and "it'll be worth it in the end", and we're all supposed to just have FAITH that everything will be set right when we die. I'm sorry, but for me, that's not enough. We all want- and fucking DESERVE- so much better than that.""" M

however after deconstructing God, religion, TSCC, social mores, etc. I found where I belonged on the political spectrum. Before then I would limp-wristedly affirm whatever conservative candidate my parents liked, but I didn't really care at the time.

Mormons are told regularly they are god's elect, a special, set apart generation. Yet they are also told they aren't doing enough-more HT'ing, more donations, more member mish work, stop masturbating, and so on. So that can create an assortment of internal states for mormons themselves. But I think what we're talking about is how Mormons come across to others, and it's highly elitist even when

that's pretty brilliant, Summer. Plus it would shut my mom up about what her statuesque Mormon cronies are doing. Our phone calls are painfully boring and I think your suggestion would help. She's even said herself she wishes our convos were more genuine. I can't really talk about my life since 99% of everything is "the world."

I knew I'd be understood. Seems like if I left that rant anywhere else on the net I would have been flamed out of the joint fast. I like the bit about genealogy, I've actually wanted to get into it a little bit but the only sources I know are very TBM and I expect things to be whitewashed. But just doing an internet search on my last name was pretty thrilling. I'd like to know more about my ex

Right now I feel a combination of anger at those degenerates and confusion as to how such primitive, cruel and negligent minds could possibly belong to people that gave me my DNA. They have always been suspiciously light on the details of their life. My siblings and I (including TBMs) have had to piece together the paucity of information they've dispensed about themselves to get a vague idea.

S/he didn't mean potheads couldn't be muggers/rapists (although I'd be surprised if someone who uses only pot would mug you to support it), s/he meant that serious criminals like muggers/rapists don't get due attention because of nonviolent possession charges and subsequent court time/jail space.

They didn't ban any music per se, honestly they were so out of touch they didn't know what constituted the devil's noise and what didn't. They sure hated everything I liked though, except Phish oddly. What was passionately banned was incense. My dad freaked out the minute he walked in the door if he smelled it. He probably thought it had something to do with pot, whose smell he wouldn't know

501c3 Tax Exemption Mormons who pay tithing can claim deductions, adding to the amount they can give to TSCC again. Hiring only temple recommend holders as employees so they know ten percent of that person's check goes right back to them. I love the idea of logging all visitors. I'd do it in front of them, asking for their names and titles if you don't know them. Understandably it might be hard because a lot of the people the Morg sends over are usually those you know, sometimes intimately. I was fortunate to move out of state at the same time I left the Morg, which weakened that part of their arsenal. I hope the hideous after

In fact I think that was their motivation for Prop 8, political reasons. I think prop 8 was a way for them to get the evangelical right more on their side and this night be an attempt to make Mitt Romney's Mormonism more normal and palatable. I didn't say it was a good strategy.

I found the memory loss part interesting. It seems to parallel the Mormon Selective Memory we all post about on here. I for one have witnessed events one would be expected to remember fall totally out of the heads of my TBM parents. Could be them getting older, however, the things they tend to forget are things they obviously found unpleasant (for example they drove me through Europe for 8 ho

Can't tell for sure. What kind of a test is it really? They have minimal overhead with all the tithe payers, tax exemption, and plenty of crony capitalism with the "affinity" situation in Morgdom, including things like hiring only temple recommend holders as employees so 10% of what they earn goes right back to them. They don't have to be good CEO's to run Morgdom. Drunk rant, haha.

"Why do you ask? Are you having doubts?" I might like this one best. It helps to invalidate the assumption that you are spiritually sick, or "struggling." (of course exmo's struggle, but not the way TBMs think they do.) Responding this way puts the issue back onto the TBM. You're not weird or different for avoiding Mormonism, he and his fellow believers are a bit odd and en

Yes absolutely. I disagree if an exmo says the difference is that we're smarter. Sure, it's involved but I think the determining virtues are 1) Honesty 2) Courage You don't need to know what e=mc2 means to be able to smell something rotten coming from the basement. It just takes a willingness to open the door and confront whatever nasty thing is making the odor, even if it means that your
