I'm not a Mormon and never was, but as one of the few in this Midwest town who would let them in my door, they returned again and again to my home> I made brownies for them. It was two or three sets of missionaries over time. Finally one day they knocked on the door and said they weren't allowed to come inside anymore. They were so embarrassed. I laughed. They were mortified. I let them know I

I found the original board in about November of 1999. I was on here from then until about four or five years ago. I was THAT Lilith and can't remember my nevermo name before that.

but I was quite humbled by the fact that at my age I wasn't quite as wise as Id thought. I see my mistakes. I guess that's better than some people. Also I'm betting that some people here will understand that the damages done by the church are deeper than I had been able to understand. I had thought I did. But learning and studying here for ten years didn't trump (man I hate that

Thanks,Dagny. Yes, I'm doing ok. AS a nevermo I thought I was done with this board but I was just so angry! this gives me the chance to explain it wasn't his being here on the board that I objected to. it is the way he doesn't feel a need to SHARE anything he does with me. I mean in the beginning he had no interest, When he had just left the church he wanted nothing to DO with it anymore. So id

I have been gone from the board for quite a while and it was good to see familiar names. Stray Mutt, Dagny, PTLoma, SLCabbie, cl2, SusieQ >there are more but these I saw first day... I was kind of surprised but many of you have been here since the beginning or nearly so. This board always goes through stages and it seems pretty calm at the moment, and it moves slower than originally. J

I refused to join the Catholic Church simply because they didn't allow women to be priests. Period. Enough reason. I was 18. I don't accept any other step forward because women always allow ourselves to be considered last. We need to walk away from patriarchal religions. I completely agree with Dagny

I'm back!! Had to get a new password and everything. I thought I was done with Mormons lol. But after showing no interest when I was here, my exmo husband is now here. Ten plus years here should have prepared me for this. Maybe he will bring up his brutal physical abuse five weeks into the marriage and how suddenly this independent friend (me)was supposed to accept him as head of the househo

My husband officially left the church a few years back. Recently he received a letter from an old church friend. Included were so some very old papers he was finally returning to him. Randy told him he had resigned after much study but we would be glad to meet this couple for dinner...... Randy keeps asking me if he has gotten another letter. Lolol

Yes. Love makes more sense as a verb as well. Like God we have trouble defining it, but the action of loving we understand. We might better know godding when we see it too. The other way to change this is to use She and He interchangeably and I don't hear the Catholic Chhurch doing this. In the catechism children still hear HE.

My husband is a truck driver and many of the warehouses and places we pick up have unisex restrooms. I hate them. I always joke that NOT passing the ERA was supposed to assure me I would never have to share a restroom LOL. They didn't get the memo. I LOVE to point this out to anti ERA conservatives.

This morning I was specifically referring to what all Christian girls hear in Sunday School. I was not a Mormon and not nearly so sexist a church but STILL a little girl who hears "God, HE", all the time takes this IN. We have it drummed into us that God is a man and NOT like me. All the so-called "made in HIS image stuff is not so cool to a GIRL. I am not talking about how yes

You admit you were raised much differently than a man. Men and women could understand each other IF they were not raised TO separate roles. To say we will never understand is not to work towards understanding. I think men's and women's behavior has come FROM being treated differently from birth. I don't think we would be all that different if raised equally.Even feminist teachers have been ta

When they start out this way it is imbedded in them. This is what sets the stage for the abuses you speak of.

This is the number one way women are kept second class. Religion does more to hurt women than anything I can think of. It is the base (pun intended) of society. Men, try to imagine how that impacted us. Please get your daughters out of church.

Just curious, Don. I disowned disco beegees but really liked 60s BeeGees esp To Love Somebody. Would they be acceptable if not allowed to sing Stayin Alive?

I was playing the 45 Handyman (I bought old records at Goodwill) and he said KOMA used that as one of their signature songs. We lived in SW Iowa.
