An RM's justification might be, adolescent boys aren't usually good about writing anything down, many of them are practically illiterate. But your right, the lack of writing anything down for such an important event makes the story less believable.

I would say something along the lines "I like to look at all the evidence." And then decide. But I postulate that by looking at science with the view of intelligent design involved that it might make more sense. But oddly enough most TBMs aren't even interested in learning science when even god is in the story.

agreed, How the teenager feels is very personal and likely best not to tell grandparents (especially if they like almost all grandparents) are inclined to spread it around everywhere. I think your being wise.

Very good thoughts from Susie-Q, There is lots of intelligent people here and there is always something to learn. I think what I value most is that this board has schooled me in communications, and to consider the reaction of my audience more. How to be supportive, how contribute to a dialog, how to disagree, how to write well.

And that's a very informative read. I'll have to look for a copy of "The 5000 Year Leap." (Mitt Romney and Glen Beck endorced the book?) I'm surprised that McKay endorsed the Naked Communist? I've read the autobiography by Franklin and that's funny that the part they use about fidelity is actually about taking on a mistress. lol! Just one slight mistake you may want to quickly correc

Hi Steve, :^) The Naked Communist is the first book I've read by Scousan, In my view understanding history and past politics helps us understand the world today. There is no doubt that Carl Marx and Engles shaped the movement of the left and have had major influence. Some of the posters on this board think I'm dumb to read anything they don't agree with, a lot of people are cynical toda

Interesting map, it shows how little the jews own of land as a people yet what a tremendous influence they've had. And then there is the muslims spread all over the desert and what a tremendous lack they have had on this world?

I'm glad you brought this up sharapta, no one realizes it, or pays attention, but BYU drastically changed when Hinkley died. Up until that time it was standard for GA's to actually drive down to Provo from Salt Lake and give their assigned talk to a crowded stadium of 30,000. But with the new administration after Hinkley all of the sudden they started introducing just teachers and faculty to do t

what I regret is that there was a vote for this and the popular vote was in favor of discrimination, but somehow the judges overturned what the people wanted. But that's the government we live in. Now we just had another vote where the left won the presidency, but because of the electoral college, the right gets the power, which I'm so relieved for. Confusing that the will of the people is overtu

Everyone has a Benson story so I'll add mine... Years ago when I was a mishi in the Old South I came across an older couple who had a very large picture of Benson sitting in his office with a group of tourists that came to meet the Mormon Prophet (with no appointment). Back in the old days it was custom for tourists and (converts) from the East while vacationing in the Rocky Mountains to stop by

Summer is right, it would be a whole lot easier for an extrovert, and yes try subbing first, to make sure it seems right, and your anxiety is somewhat under control, is an excellent suggestion. But Teaching is something (in my view) anyone can do for a short time, and you don't necessarily need to be brilliant or have credentials to do it well. You don't need to have some special talent or be

It's about freakin time! Hinn is the poster child for fleecing the flock and building his own personal wealth. We really need a government that will monitor big business religion in this country more. But for whatever reason it's something they don't want to get into. Conservatives fear they are losing the 1st amendment.

Warren is in prison right now. Still the Prophet of the fun-daMolsters. The Trust got raided by the Feds and after the Lawyers get their cut I'm sure their won't be much for the kids or the lost boys.

for some they call it intuition, or inspiration. Or a strong sense that something is wrong, or quickly being able to understand something complex. Or having a sense of a future event before it happens. * These could be considered revelation by religious people. * They could also be considered psychic abilities or connections with earths energies. * Athiests may consider them to be coincid

very true. I didn't believe in them but then I saw one one day while I was up in the mountains alone. it flew by very fast and didn't make a sound. It wasn't shaped like a plane but more of a round ball. With no engine. My uncle almost was abducted while he was peeing in the woods outside his trailer. A light shined on him from above. He quickly ran back in his trailer terrified. No exagg

Interesting article. Being hard working Italians is something to be proud of. But I can't with the liberal left just bow down to the Jews and forget all the crap they've pulled on the rest of us throughout the last few centuries. I think there needs to be an element of empathy for Neo-Nazis sentiments. Though of course he took it too far when he was violent with some Jewish women. White supremaci

For customer service I think you get it a little easier when speaking to a gringo or cracker (is that a racist slur?) But it's a sad fact that call centers are full of minorities. It's all part of the social hierarchy that we've been in since Washington's time. Generally Everyone has their place, and come from their ethnic neighborhoods. All climbing and pining to get to the upper side of town. T

$100,000 gone, wow! I've never been sick enough to go to spend more that $50 on a doctor (I do my own surgeries if needed). But with the standard medical insurance offered by employers for a 35 year old male (and/or Obama Care), wouldn't the Silver/Bronze Plan be something like a $5000-$10000 yearly deductible and 80% covered on prescriptions? Somewhere between $40-$150 in insurance costs each mo

people in these other worlds will be like pod people. Like plastic Barbie and Ken dolls the article above asks these questions that are unnerving: If you make it to the Celestial Kingdom how would you feel when you visit a Parent, Grandparent, Brother, Sister, Son or Daughter in the Terrestrial Kingdom with out any Gender? If JFS doctrine is correct the word Brother and Sister takes on a wh

The real kicker is what it says in Doctrines of Salvation 288. "Some of the functions in the celestial body will not appear in the terrestrial body..."In the other worlds there will be "neither man nor woman merely immortal beings having received the resurrection." http://www.mormonmatters.org/2009/04/27/are-we-going-to-be-eunuchs-after-this-life/

I would rethink getting a degree again in the same field like Darren Steers suggested for a variety of reasons. * First off a college degree aint what it use to be, everyone and their mother has one. * Second academians and administrators are by nature are blood sucking scoundrels! There have been numerous studies over the last 20 years that suggest that the cost of education has gone up far

I quite agree. All the "I'm so thankful for myself" posts can be irritating. What I don't get is why some things are appropriate to brag about and why some other things are not. Like the romantic posts get 400 comments and if I post something about how much money I made on a stock everyone ignores me or tells me I'm greedy or something? Who made up the rules for facebook, cuz I

They were building the Erie Canal, everyone was going to be millionaires, lots of smart, hardworking, thrifty, opinionated, business savvy investors hunting around for treasure. Abolitionists, temperance followers, and liberals everywhere. In fact old Joe was a democrat. There was a library close by with a collection of all the most im

I'm surprised that there are homeless in the glorious city of Salt Lake. I'd think that poverty would have been solved by now since it's suppose to be Zion, and all that? This debate is really an unfortunate thing the whole pass it off to some other community. The the LDS Church approach of quietly not wanting to get too involved, praising local governments instead of taking the lead (in a Po

To come to the question again. Joseph Fielding Smith said that sinners would be resurrected without the necessary body parts to mate. They'll be Unichs, The meek inherit the earth-- the obedient get to participate in "pleasure" in the after life... Now how he was so certain of all this I don't know?

The debate over where to place the homeless in Salt Lake continues. The Mormon Bretheren within the last year have exhorted members to be generous to refugees, extend civil rights for lgbtq, and to be kind to everyone. They applaud the efforts of local governments in trying to work out these issues and help people. In a rare public statement they reportedly contributed 42 million over the past 10
