You can take my advice or not, it's certainly in your hands. Just realize that if you are 17 years old then you certainly don't have the experience or wisdom you think you have. Intelligence is something quite different than wisdom.

I'm getting the impression that you have confidently stuck your foot right in your mouth because, like many young people, you think you know what you're talking about. Right now I'm thinking of a 17 year old I knew many years ago who quite confidently told me that God wanted to heal me from depression if I would just have the faith of a mustard seed to let him. He ended up with bi-polar disord

I figured it was a fancy name for seminary but didn't realize it would be for seminary for young adults or older converts. Makes sense, though, it's right next to several buildings for colleges. (The buildings allow colleges further away to offer courses to folks who don't want to communte.) I'm almost tempted to see what they offer. :)

Don't they realize it makes their deities look repulsive?

In fact, you sound just like the average religious nut who is trying to pretend that religion isn't a factor. And you CLEARLY do not understand evolution (or science) or you'd have already read the many papers on the evolutionary advantages to having paired homosexuals in a community. So, sorry, not buying it but it was a nice try at appeal to authority. You don't have the critical thinking or lo

Orange wants to equate "marriage" to "reproduction" and won't be swayed by reality. And I think MJ's link up above might have been to a source of the many benefits of legal marriage. :)

Humans are not "evolutionarily male and female" -- in fact, that's just utter nonsense. Humans (and other animals) are male, female, intersexed, male externally and female internally and vice versa and even female on the inside and genetically male. Please, take your stupidity elsewhere -- preferably to an institute of higher learning where you can be introduced to critical thinking ski

It makes me feel sick to my stomach. Our prison system is barbaric and we Americans should be ashamed of it.

Personally, I've never found ignorance to be bliss. Generally, it causes me problems and opens me up for abuse. Knowledge ftw.

No point in going further with you -- you just want to force your will on other people and are having a hissy fit (albeit quietly) because you don't get to hit people with your religious stick anymore.

Black and white thinking is prevalent in homophobes, I've noticed.

Not to mention next of kin rights and the like. Marriage is not a "religious" construct no matter how many religionists try to claim it is. It has historically always been about the legalities of forming a unit out of disparate units.

I'm just wondering what the hell that is supposed to be? (I live in the Pacific Northwest, if that helps any.)

At least not religiously coerced polygyny.

A few people are on the far end of each side of the spectrum and most people are somewhere along the line (with bi's being in the middle, if I understood it). I'm 100% hetero but I don't care what other people are or aren't.

141. Exactly.
A huge issue here is consent. My issue with polygamy is that the majority of the time the woman isn't really consenting because she's been coerced.

So, if three guys are married to one woman what happens when one wants to divorce her? What happens when she wants to divorce one? How does one figure out property rights, child rearing, etc? I see that you want it to be simple but it isn't at all. Multiple spouses greatly complicates legal issues.

Got anything to counterbalance the very real harms to individuals polygamy seems to create? I didn't think so.

Is that your argument? There are very real human harms that come with polygamy. Until those are somehow dealt with legalizing polygamy is only giving men more freedom to harm women and children.

Plus, they feel anyone who has sex should "face the consequences". In other words, having sex means you should be punished.

I'm thinking your conclusion is wishful thinking. Perhaps that word "normal" doesn't mean what you think it means. I know several perfectly rational and "normal" women who have had abortions. It wasn't a choice they were happy to make but it was the right choice for them and they are all glad they made it.

However the vast majority are practing polygyny and it's coerced. And since we can't even manage to protect children from being killed by their religious parents' whacked out views, I'm not optimistic that legalizing polygamy would automatically protect women and children. In countries where polygyny is legal it still is harmful to women and children and they never seem to be protected. Until pat

However, coercing a woman to accept that she must share her man with several other women is harmful in a way that coercing a woman to marry a man monogamously isn't. Granted, both are harmful -- just in different ways. The research, however, shows that polygyny is MORE harmful for women and children than monogamy. Also, polygyny creates a shortage of available women to court, leading to excess ba

It's kind of like being a Mormon -- either you're always a Mormon or you're kidding yourself. And "separate but equal" never was.

I love making the lives of others better. In fact, I just became a caregiver which pays me to do this. However... Giving myself permission to say "no" made my life much, much, MUCH better. I only help when I feel physically, mentally and emotionally capable of doing so in a healthy way. Otherwise, I burn and go crazy. The only exception to this rule of mine is my grandmother. She'
