When I was in college and on my way out, I had a dream that my entire family was trying to force me to marry my cousin (who was getting ready to leave on his mission at the time) so I would stay in the church. In the end, when I totally refused to do it, they pushed me (wearing a temple-ready wedding dress) in my sweet firebird off the end of a dock, and I woke up with cold sweats as the car

I was waiting for DH to get to my office and reading an article on KSL about guns. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=23760775&nid=148&title=can-guns-be-safely-stored-at-home (If you're interested) Reading the comments, I was struck by something funny. Many of the comments are from obviously LDS people (one says something about teaching this during family home evenings) and most of

My nevermo coworker raised his family in Lehi and is just now moving into SL county. He had an easier time of it since they are nevermo and not exmo, he says his neighbors were all friendly and not pushy, but they were never in the group. His kids are all great people and have many good mormon friends. He did say he didn't like the 'feel' of the place, especially when going anywhere on sundays

One of my best friends in elementary school was a Barlow. She kind of disappeared when we started middle school. I had no idea at the time. I thought she just really liked wearing skirts and loved her long braids. It wasn't until years later that I put it together...

I had to do some training in our Texas office. There was a mormon guy working there that was planning on transferring over to the SL office. One of the other people there dragged me over to his desk and asked "Are all mormons like this?" He had temple and prophet pictures all over his cubical, and a temple/ family picture slideshow as his screensaver. Luckily, I was able to laugh

I understand your underlying point, but I find it interesting, that even while making the point that not everyone is cut out to be a mother, you use some of the most offensive reasons that it's "ok" to not be a mother; Darth Monson Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > (due to emotional problems, childhood traumas, > irresponsibility/selfishness, m

This is why I think he thought he was 'fixing' it more than throwing her under the bus. It seems like he would have just kept his mouth shut if he felt like he had done something wrong. But again, I'm basing it on my DH...

Your post is very powerful. I often think how odd it is that we can talk about such personal and important feelings to basically strangers on the internet, that we wish more than anything we were confident enough to say to our loved-ones in person. Hopefully your post will help you boil down your feelings so you can talk to DH in a more calm way. From what you wrote, I think you need him t

I'm sorry you're going through this. It has taken me years to really get it through my head that I am not responsible for the happiness of my parents (or anybody else but myself)

Is getting snipped awful? I don't feel like it's my place to make DH do it, since it's his, uh, equipment, but I've been on the pill for a little over 10 years and it's definitely messing with me in little annoying ways (besides being worried about the scarier health risks)

I took DH's name when we married, mostly because I was never fond of my maiden name and (I can admit here) that part of it was to make it a little harder for the church to keep hunting me down. A friend of mine kept her name and their son took her name because otherwise the family name would die out. It has actually been kind of a pain for her because most places just assume they all have the

Most of my friends in HS kind of did do this. They partied, drank, and participated in activities they had to confess to the bishop with members of the opposite sex. They just hid it from their parents and showed up at church every Sunday. Now, they have all repented and have a bunch of kids and go to church. I never did any of that and am one of the few I know of that are out...

DH had a scope done on Wednesday and they took some biopsies. That Dr prescribed him a pill that was supposed to decrease the amount of acid in his stomach. He picked it up last night, then took the pill as directed 30 minutes before eating. 10 minutes after we had our soup he was in the bathroom throwing up and then felt awful and didn't sleep at all. (So he still feels horrible) When h

I had my bad experiences as a poor college kid. The first time we were finally celebrating after finals and splurged by going to the Pie. My roomy and I shared a cheese pull-apart, and I ate 1/4, planning on having the other 1/4 for lunch the next day. As we left to walk back to our apartment, we were approached by an older lady saying she was just so hungry. I told her I didn't have any more $

All I know is "Satan's sippy cup of fornication" would either be the coolest band name ever, or a great drink at a strip club.

I need to thank you so much for the Regretsy link. It has made a long day of waiting for files to open or save much more entertaining. I have also decided that Raptor Jesus and Helen Killer would make the awesomest most entertaining babies ever.

We had to write a letter to explain DH's time laid off, but once they had that we had no problems. IIRC he had only had his new job for 3 months at the time.

They have an approved catalog of pretty much everything that goes into their buildings. It is so sad to see the new designers come in all excited to work on temples and such. After just one project they all get the same terrified look in their eyes when a new one comes in...

I always have to jump in and defend the designers when these threads pop up, since I work with so many that are really good. They really do try to present nicer ideas, but those get shot down every time. They have to work within a catalog of approved furniture, paintings, flowers, carpets, etc. so there's not much they can do.

My best friend in HS actually had a guy take her to a hotel and tell her that the spirit told him they were supposed to be married and it was ok for them to go ahead and take care of the physical part right then. She made him take her home and never spoke to him again. Perhaps he should have added the flaming sword part?

I am proud (or embarrassed) to say that we have a similar version to that on a shiny new bright yellow bucket, sitting in our basement right now, courtesy of TBM mom.
