I believe in nothing. I am also open... What I mean by this is that my views are not fixed. I feel that TBMs, hard core atheists, new agers, fundamental Christians, you name it, are believers. They are stuck in their beliefs and are rigid and will defend them to the ends of the earth.

I couldn't agree more with you about this! I'm wondering if this is because for many that are now ex TBMs, some of them may have been militant TBMs at some point in time and militant TBMs like to debate (argue) and can be very good at it. Maybe its a carry-over? I wish this board had a separate section for non TBM topics...

This site has changed for the worse! I've been on this site since its inception and only in the last year or so its become mean-spirited by so many... I wish the forum had a separate section for "non-Mormon" stuff or atheism. Arguing about being an atheist is not about recovering from Mormonism...

Thank you for sharing. My dear husband suffered a massive brain bleed 21 months ago. He survived brain surgery and was growing stronger every day. But, an MRI showed he had 80-90% brain damage in his brain stem. The brain stem controls your primal bodily functions, like breathing. Although his physical body was strong, his brain was gone so I took him off life support. It was the most difficul

“We are survival machines – robot vehicles blindly programmed to preserve the selfish molecules known as genes." ― Richard Dawkins, The Selfish Gene hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/.../granddesign.ht.. Dawkins, Harris and Hawkins claim they are biological robots with no free will. I think they are staunch atheists... Many atheists want to have it both ways and say things like they love nature or they love the wonders of this world but they are fooling themselves because you are either a biological robot or you aren't... I on the other hand do not believe in any god but I do believe that c

I do not believe in god and I also believe that consciousness survives bodily death.

I do! I have a big jar and at the end of every day I write down what the highlight of my day was, even if a bad day, I still find something and add it in the jar. Its fun and helps... My dear husband died suddenly about 20 months ago so I have been working on gratitude a lot. The other is to be negative and be a victim or, be angry. None of that works but being grateful helps, it really reall

We've all had numerous reasons (valid or not) to be filled with anger but for me, I realized that anger only hurts me, not the person/s I'm angry at. I've known angry and bitter people and unfortunately all it does is eat you up inside. Its difficult to do, but if you can try and let it go, you are doing yourself a favor for your future. I am not saying that you don't have reason to be angry,

I'm ashamed to say yes. I have her name at home. My mom put together a whole book about her life and it was all about her TBM relatives. She's proud that a grandmother on her mothers side (probably great, great grandmother) ironed Joe's suit for him the night before he died. I could have it wrong so please no haters but it was along those lines. My mom is proud, I am embarrassed.

I meditate. Its very helpful for stress, worry and many things. For me, it helps me to be a nicer person. I don't get upset as easily when I'm meditating on a regular basis and things that used to bother me now roll right off my back.

Yes, I think so. I used to be a hard core atheist until I realized that I was just as much a zealot as TBMs and now, I am okay with having an open mind without specific answers or dogma. I've often wondered if there is more than meets the eye and we are not biological robots and that we do have free will but that it has nothing to do with one "being" in charge or a "God&quo

I have met many kind atheists and also many militant ones that are just as closed minded and judgmental as TBMs and fundamental Christians.

For those of you in my age group (born in the 1960s), you may remember the Ramona The Pest books? They were about a rather irreverent little girl and her escapades. In one such story she is having a funeral for her pet and all the neighborhood kids are involved, its a big production and then they realize her pet is still alive and the girl, not wanting to ruin her big event says "lets kill

This is what I told my gkids who asked: There are basically three schools of thought in the world. #1 - Judeo/Christian/Muslin - believe in one god. Heaven and hell and what you do in this life will determine where you end up after you die. They just have different rules but the core is the same. #2 - Buddhist, Hindu (and some others) who believe in multiple gods/deities and believe in

I too read this but it seemed pretty weak to me. This is an experiment that was designed to prove its conclusion. Any serious researcher will be deeply offended by this pseudo-science. Science can only prove something is not so it can never really prove something is so.

I didn't. I never believed, ever. I felt sorry for my family because they didn't see the scam like I did.

I agree with CA girl here. I feel that we owe it ourselves as a human race to be open minded. And to be so closed minded well, that's really no different than the Mormons... Being open-mined doesn't mean one believes in JS, JC or Santa.

I am really sick and tired of the atheists vs. Christian fundamentalist argument. It would be nice if we could move past this but as long as atheists continue to argue with zealots well, its not going to really go anywhere because both sides seem to have made up their minds with no room for anything else -- both sides have drawn lines in the sand and won't budge. I feel we all owe it to

For me, I would prefer to do the right thing and try my best to be a good person. Not because I will be rewarded after I die, because nobody knows this but to be remembered as nice person. Who wants to be remembered as a selfish jerk?
