Sorry, learning how to use this forum. I posted my last post under blue orchid's post when I meant to post it under ificouldhietokolob's post. Bloody hell. Cake "We used to have pipes...".

I did stand up for myself. It was the poor hosts who, while trying to be gracious and accommodating, got hosed by the offending 90 percent. The problem, as with most of us here on this forum, is that we do stand up for ourselves it is sometimes at the expense of others. That is to say, my sweet aunt and her nevermo husband are now forever remembered as being the people who hosted that dreadful pa

This is good news. Can I add one thing to help you? If you are in Utah, don't necessarily rely upon the employees to know what you might (or might not) like. They are not trained in the arts of imbibing as their masters think they are. They are plebes who are able to afford minimums based upon their wages. (read: cheap vodka, rotgut wine, and canned beers). Rather, rely upon the web. YouTube

My family is part Mormon (90%) and part sinner/freethinker (10%). As you may well deduce, I'm in the ten percent. My lovely aunt and her new husband of one year threw a party for the whole family on the 4th of July. She and he are wonderful hosts and do a lot to accommodate the 90 percent. Meanwhile, the 10 percent do their best to 'accommodate' the 90 percent (i.e., no alcohol, tea, or tobacco;

Sapporo Talls. Smooth and silky with some edamame and Philly rolls. Asahi is another good beer but, Sapporo tastes better with food. Tomorrow, it is grilled rib-eyes with Menage-A-Trois red blend for supper. Then for a night cap, gin and tonics on the patio with grand-kids and those children my wife and I raised. Cake

Welcome, and good luck. I'm relatively new here and I don't have much of a presence but, it would sure be nice to meet up with a group here in Logan, Utah again. Warning: Thread Hijack ahead: Anyone know if the Ricks group still meets on Sunday nights? Cake "Quoi?"

It's hotter than heck-fire outside so I turned the A/C down low and watched PBS online. Moyers and Company, NOVA, and Frontline. Now, sausage, onion, and gruyere cheese stuffed mushroom caps followed by Buffalo wings on the grill. Gin and tonics. Cake "Cake, please!"

Sad. I got to see Yes twice over the years. Once in Phoenix and another time in SLC. Squire's bass playing was a counter to the unique singing voice of (Jon) Anderson. Unique band with some special personnel over the years. And the band helped to put Roger Dean on the map of album cover artists. RIP Chris Squire. Cake

So, I recently revealed to a friend that I have only ever had one Martini and I spit it out because it tasted so bad. This set him on a quest to make a great Martini for me. The vodka was Stoli and the vermouth was Noilly-Pratt, nice and dry. He used a shaker with lots of ice and three pimento olives on a skewer. I have to say, 30 years later, I now know what I've been missing. The taste was

Coffee, breakfast burrito at home, making maquettes for a trip to Aspen in June. Utah alabaster carving with an in-line chisel. Five days to complete a sculpture in Colorado. Tonight, the weather is still cool so we start with a bottle of Menage a Trois red blend and Dubliner cheese. Next up, jalapeƱo poppers with raspberry coulis as an appetizer. Main dish is pork souvlaki skewers, feta che

When I served a mission, there were many times I was alone and not with a companion due to travel arrangements, weather, and other snafus that happen in life. But, more and more I'm seeing mishies alone. I rode a bus this morning and a lone elder was on the bus carefully studying an iPad. WTF? HE must be in management is what I carelessly thought. AP, or something. Still, I see this more and

Just got off work and I'm having a couple of shots of Tarantula 100 reposado tequila for a nod to Cinco De Mayo this week. Next, peppers, onions, cilantro, chorizo, and ajo cooked in a black skillet for fajitas. Oh, then the homemade margaritas with Cointreau and Corralejo. Pricey but, it's only once a year. Cake

It's been so easy to focus on the moment since I left the cult. I can remember always worrying about the future and how I might fit into heaven when that time came. Now, I live for myself, my wife, kids, friends, and co-workers. I don't focus on most future events other than some things that might be calendared (i.e., birthdays, anniversaries, et al). Before, I would schedule most of my life

I loved it. I faked the emotional BS at the supper table with the MP and his lovely wife. I did a 'happy dance' in the shower. Within a week I was sitting with a friend in a bar having a cold beer, garments off, and tan lines from a tank top. I made a terrible Morgbot. I could never keep the commandments in the white bible. I figured the first 10 covered everything so, to hell with the re

Got to throw more clay on the wheel today. Made a bowl and some lidded pots. Glazed some bisque ware and took a nap. Had all of the kids over tonight for dinner. Got to hold my two-week old baby grand-daughter. I don't get to be in the blessing circle so this is my time with her. I will teach my grand-kids that they aren't broken either. Cake

Visiting my new grand-daughter, celebrating 'Easter' with family and friends. Pretending I care deeply about religious beliefs and pretending to still be a part of it. While at the same time, having a mixer in my hand. Can you say Jack - Mormon? NO? It's so hard to lose my best friend (aka my number 2 son to a cult). I still have son #1 who brings clarity to my soul from time to time. Someday.

This is so very easy to explain. The answer has been known for a very long time: "Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest." - Denis Diderot A great concept except that the plebes that follow kings and priests will just appoint new ones in their steads. Eradication of modern government and religion is one goal. People reject the

I use my personal mug from Caffe Ibis which features a French Press feature along with a 'hidden pouch' container on the bottom of said mug. It's not insulated to 'thermos' standards but, with that level of flavor in the mug, I don't consider it much of an advantage to have mega-levels of insulation in my mug. The go-to grinds (for me) are Logan Canyon Blend and Highlander Grogg. Like most of

I wanted to add that I used to have the 'Sunday Night Blues' for many years while in the Morgdor (my nounage). I had already spent over six hours in meetings with brother this or sister that and I just wanted to get home and be with my honey and the kids. I always had my heart at home while sitting through droning talks and mind-fuck meetings. BTW, can we use the fuck word here on RFM? I love

This may sound odd but, this isn't too far off from my schedule at several points in my mission. Of course, it was off the record and not within the rules of the 'White Bible' but, WTF? We got the work done and then we played. Just because one is a good missionary doesn't mean one is a GOOD missionary. I'm glad that I had that viewpoint then. I have few regrets about serving a mission but, sc

I spent one semester there in the art program. Leon Parson was a good teacher who has extraordinary talent. Heard lightning hit him a few years ago and now he is deaf. Dunno. It was effin' cold there, too. The wind would blow in the morning and you'd run to campus just to not freeze to death from the exposure. Went to a cowboy bar there across the railroad tracks. Had some beers and play

I regret that I didn't do more fun things than I did. I always had that idea of letting down the MP or worse, God. But, there were times I did things and it really never bothered me. Went to movies once in a while. I had comps who weren't workers from time to time. So, I'd make a deal that if we tracked 4 hours today, we'd go see a movie or go back to the apartment and take a nap. On several o

Ron, my DW is pre-diabetic and she is not a drinker. So, in keeping with the theme of low-carb and pre-diab I'm staying away from the suds (since January) and keeping things tight. The steaks were great, medium rare with A1 Sauce and a horseradish-butter sauce drizzled over them. The green beans we dipped in balsamic vinegar with some bleu cheese crumbles on top. Who needs Tyler Florence?
