MessyGoop--I think we served in the same mission, around the same time. I went home the month it changed to a flat cost for all families (you mentioned in an earlier post that you were there for it.) If your mission president was "White," he was the biggest a$$ I ever met. By the way, I used to call Odessa "Odessalation" but I liked Midland OK.

I know, these have been discussed, but a couple short takes on the two series "Under the Banner of Heaven" and "Stay Sweet: Pray and Obey" The first one, UtBoH has a connection to the second series...the weirdness of the mainstream (if you can call it that) Mormon church isn't enough for some. Apparently they need more weird. That's what the characters did in UtBoH, except

The ONLY time we sided with the student: They were accused of sending out a racist diatribe to the entire university community via email. Turned out the student was president of the student diversity committee, president of the international student association, etc. His resume was impeccable. He logged on to a public computer and apparently didn't logoff. Someone must have jumped on and se

I was the disciplinary hearing officer at a university...usually (99%) dealing with plagiarism. In most cases, it was (strangely), "I walked away from the computer to go to Taco Bell and my roommate jumped on and tried to help me. He/She added that content." No joke. That was the excuse. Almost every time. No review, just got submitted as their paper.

OP...I did the same. Thought about airing dirty laundry, telling the authority to pound sand because she's an adult, etc. In the end I simply didn't respond. I realized that it makes no difference. Mormons going to do what mormons going to do. The joke is on my ex. She's been married four or five years, he's physically abusive, and she's leaving him. I say "joke" but not dir

I don't watch the BYU channel...but I scroll past it to get to the R rated movies of HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, etc. It's just below those so I see the content. I took a look today. Nothing but bland, G rated material. Highway to Heaven repeats and so forth. But 5:00am - 7:00am devotionals. I remember seeing the content several years ago and it was 90% explicit Mormon. I'm thinking they are t

It's not fair to label one of a group as "all" of a group. I know that. And I won't. But in general, it seems that for Mormons if you are temple-worthy, you are a good person. And better than someone that isn't either a member (or better) temple-worthy. I divorced my TBM wife about five years ago. Mostly because I liked the taste of alcohol. Just not Word of Wisdom compliant, dependi

Absolutely true. Because so many idiots failed (or chose) to not get vaccinated, thus allowing for variants that are much more infectious. Thanks.

I bought a book to learn German (inspired?) And started to. When the letter came, my parents were out of town and I picked up the mail...opened it and said, "Fort Worth, Texas." I went, "OK." I wasn't thrilled, but OK. Went to MTC for 2.5 weeks, but first day "in the field" the mission president told me I'd be learning Spanish. Actually, he first asked

A mission. At least my experience...now, could be a toss up. I have the same recurring dream/nightmare that others have noted of getting a mission call all over again. I didn't take things that seriously and learned Spanish; good for a really gringo-looking guy like me with a Spanish surname. Freaks a lot of folks out when I break out into Spanish. Then even more when I tell them my surname.

Dang. My parents were mormonn (and raised me as such), but converts and not-that-much-mormon. In other words, they weren't die hard. I'm grateful for that.

One of the four hotels I stayed at in Cuba a few years ago wanted to hold my passport during the stay. I didn't care, gave it to them. I partied and had a good time. Won't tell you what I did with the tour guide and a maid at one other hotel. Good times.

Coming BACK to the U.S. from Canada in about 2003, the U.S. Border guy asked for my ID. I showed him my driver's license. He (in a loud, aggressive voice) said, "This only proves you can drive in the United States!" I think he loved every opportunity to say that. I told him, "Well, this is all I have so I hope it works." He let me back in the U.S.

I got the one-shot Johnson and Johnson. Just what they told me for my appointment, but haven't spoken to anyone else in NM that got it. About a week ago. One of those days I just wasn't hungry so didn't eat breakfast or lunch. Got the shot in the morning about 10:30am. Did a bunch of walking for work, about two hours in the afternoon, then came home and ran a couple miles. Finally had dinner

Thank you. With all going on, only a couple of close family we know in all this time, amazingly, that have popped up with either infection or issues. It was scary last week with him. Doctor said that if he doesn't try to fight it--and he's a pretty "give up kind of guy"--then he's going to lose, so it worried us. He's about my age (50) and hard to believe, I had to send $$ to cover

Same area as you, Catnip, and was surprising to see numbers jump a couple weeks ago from 800 to over a thousand a day in the state. Wife works at a community office that occasionally partners with a state entity and does testing...about a week ago, she reported that 70% (she isn't a trained medical professional, so who knows where this info comes from) were symptomatic. However, her place has

It was a joke. As also how I interpreted your question. For an atheist you take doctrine of sects seriously. I don't.

Thanks, Summer. I went to exactly one confession (maybe? I don't quite remember) and it was during my interview. I think. Anyway, I've never been to any confession post-baptism. We went to church once in a while after getting married for the first year. Nice deal: 45-60 minutes (45 in Mexico, 60 in the U.S.) but not again in about two years. I really shouldn't have sent that message to my

Of course they aren't mormon. I've watched Kids in the Hall for years...they are Canadian, nothing more. This clip with some guys in white shirts and ties behind a priest, really you think it signifies mormons?

I don't think he goes to church much. Mom died a couple years ago and even then, they weren't going much because of health and who knows what else. He was raised Catholic. By the time I was born he and Mom had converted to Mormonism. He and Mom were welcoming about a Black girlfriend I brought to their house a handful of years ago. For that I will ever be grateful. And for my dark Mexican

I can't even imagine the experiences you had. And yes, it's on the cult...not you. I still have resentment and anger about what it did to me, but cannot fathom what you endured. Glad you are out and recovering like so many of us.
