This isn't mormon-recovery related... And OK, I'm not even going to try to set this up in a thoughtful, intelligent way. Simply to ask a question in a moment. I read the article titled, "How St. Augustine Invented Sex http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/06/19/how-st-augustine-invented-sex It's a great read. His thoughts on sex and "original sin." My question is: If t

I actually appreciate when this topic and others come up. Sure, it's "old news" but I can tell you that when I got on this site a few years ago, I kept reading references to the Book of Abraham and what a blatant crock it was...how it was the tipping point for many exmos. I couldn't figure it out. I even read some other posts that gave a bit more explanation and still didn't get it.

This was a beautiful and peaceful response. I hope someday I can visit where she lived. I can't even imagine her bravery.

I think a question raised is (at least for me, although you don't need to answer) is "why" you'd want to know if they are wearing garments. Maybe it's simply to know for certain if they are a member, without actually asking them. If it is to gauge their TBM-ness, I wouldn't rely on it: Many wear the garments and don't believe and despise the things, but still put them on...while man

You make a good point--both of you. I lived in WA state and AZ and TX and who knows where else, lol. I don't think that I've seen overt racism in any of these places in decades. But the fact that there has been well-documented racism in the church for many, many more decades before is a problem for me. It was swept under the rug in recent years. That does not forgive the HORRIBLE treatment an

Apparently, "if you wouldn't say it in the grocery store, don't say it here" (per "guidelines" section of the site). Personally, I don't say shit in the grocery store except "thank you." Still, that's a pretty wide berth for the mods.

I also remember teaching a lesson in a run-down home in Texas...during the middle of it one of the kids decides to feed the big boa constrictor in the middle of the living room floor. This thing was seriously big. Like ten feet long or more. The kid had a rabbit in one hand and the snake's neck in the other, shoving both together and saying, "Eat! Eat!" It never struck but wow th

Well, I think it's funny (and another "stopped at the light" story.... Driving down the street and stopped at a light, saw some nice guys in white shirts and ties on the side of the road inviting people to an event. Either I thought "Hey, this is interesting" or "Wow, they look kind of like us and maybe would be worth getting to know them." I honestly don't remem

Sounds like you are enjoying life in Maine--nice! My parents live there in the summer (winter in Florida) and love it. I've been there a couple times to visit and can imagine how accepting and nice the people are. I'm glad it's been a good move.

I think seminary is a crock, regardless. When I was going (time release in Arizona) about 30 years ago, I missed A LOT. One semester I told the instructor--a pretty chill dude--that I wrote a letter to the local newspaper. Had something to do with the LDS church. Said I'd make a deal: if they printed it, I get an A (or something like that.) He agreed. It was published and true to his word, I

Ugh. My kids live in Davis County...with my ex. I don't know if this is a good thing (living near creepy polygamists) or a bad thing ("you should be my next wife.") My thirteen-year old is going to stay with me for part of the summer. I plan to tell her that I simply do not believe in the morg. I cannot believe what she has to endure over there.

I don't know if this will be helpful, but I would like to respond. I am sorry that you feel this way. I think a lot of people/us feel inadequate at times. We aren't perfect, after all. I have always been pretty outgoing, yet I also prefer solitude and not dealing with other people. I can, but most often I don't prefer to. I guess that I can fake it enough. Or in the right circumstances I do

Actually, universities are limited in most cases to how many adjuncts they have....it's an accreditation thing. Several years ago in WA state I could make $2400 a quarter teaching one class as an adjunct--not bad, not great. In Texas I found it was more like $1,600 a semester. Maybe it's gone up but _that_ was very low and not worth my time.
